MORIC - Chapter 12
Chapter 12: An Alpha in Omega's Clothing
It was only after getting into the testing department's car that Chi Yueshan realized Xi Zhoumeng was actually someone with connections.
And the testing supervisor's superior turned out to be Xi Zhoumeng's older brother!
Chi Yueshan sighed and glanced at the streetscape outside the window. The streets of the Upper World were completely different from those of the Lower World.
Tall buildings and skyscrapers, with suspended expressways crisscrossing the sky, were everywhere.
"You're from the Lower World?"
Xi Zhoumeng's voice suddenly sounded out, making the hairs on Chi Yueshan's arms stand on end. She leaned away to the side. "Don't get so close to me."
Neither of them was wearing their school uniform. Compared to Xi Zhoumeng's obviously expensive outfit, Chi Yueshan was dressed very plainly.
Xi Zhoumeng let out a laugh. "What are you afraid of? We've already bathed together."
Guyun Academy didn't allow the children of nobility to bring servants to school, a rule this bunch of young masters and misses had been complaining about endlessly.
The young miss, who had her own luxury car at school, was being picked up by her butler personally this time. The serious-looking female Beta didn't say a word, which made Chi Yueshan subconsciously lower her voice.
"Who—who bathed with you."
She huffed. "You were the one who insisted."
Xi Zhoumeng let out an "Oh."
This little thing is quite the tsundere, she thought.
How did someone with such a fearless personality manage to survive in the Lower World for so long?
When Wen Xinghuo was brought back all those years ago, she was covered in scars. In Xi Zhoumeng's memory, the first time she saw Wen Xinghuo, the wounds on her face hadn't even healed. Brawls often broke out in the districts of the Lower World. The Omega Protection Act could, at best, save one's life, but it didn't necessarily prevent injury.
According to her file, this scruffy kid had even been homeless for a while. She must have some skills, then.
Last time, I saw her send an Alpha flying with a single punch. It's clear she's incredibly strong.
Xi Zhoumeng's gaze made Chi Yueshan even more uneasy. She pulled her jacket tighter around herself and barked fiercely, "Why do you keep staring at me?"
Xi Zhoumeng remarked with a sigh, "I'm just wondering where you get the confidence to like Wen Xinghuo."
She was very immersed in this kind of performance. Before, for over a decade, she had played the part of an obedient puppet day in and day out. After transmigrating into the book, fighting for her life was also very interesting, especially when it came to changing the original, predetermined trajectory.
For example, making Chi Yueshan fall for someone else?
It was one thing that she was neither an Alpha nor an Omega right now, but she also didn't have heat cycles, and she didn't even know what her own pheromones smelled like.
But given Chi Yueshan's aesthetic tastes, it would be hard to find a substitute for Wen Xinghuo.
Chi Yueshan said, "I'm quite good-looking."
She replied instantly, her gaze fixed outside.
A semester at Guyun Academy was six months long. The final week before the start of the school year was the deadline for tuition payment, and you had to pay for the whole year at once.
Chi Yueshan's commission from streaming was also taxed, and she had scraped the money together bit by bit. She was already thinking about how to save up for next year's tuition. Getting into the top three was just too difficult. She worried about this and that every day and had no time to see the world outside.
The academy was located in a remote area, far from the main city districts, requiring a ride on the intercity sky-rail.
That was also a considerable expense.
Even though Chi Yueshan was still taking on small machinery repair jobs on the side, she had to rely on intercity express delivery for them.
Perhaps because her expression was filled with longing, like a child who had just left home for the first time, Xi Zhoumeng chuckled. "Are you better looking than me?"
Chi Yueshan was unfazed. "As long as Senior Wen thinks I'm good-looking, that's all that matters."
Xi Zhoumeng said, "But you and Wen Xinghuo didn't match."
The mention of this annoyed Chi Yueshan. "Don't talk about it."
They didn't speak again all the way to the Civil Affairs Department.
After entering the main hall, the two of them went for separate tests.
Xi Zhoumeng shed her earlier laziness and said to the butler, "I want to do another DNA test."
The butler, Li Rong, nodded. "Do we need to see Mr. Xi first, then?"
The Mr. Xi she mentioned was Xi Zhoumeng's current older brother, Xi Li, an Alpha who dreamed of being a slacker but ended up becoming a politician.
The framework of this book-transmigration world was too convoluted. Xi Zhoumeng couldn't be bothered to analyze all the messy political systems; the world would continue to run on its own anyway.
"He's at work?"
Li Rong replied, "He's in his office."
Xi Zhoumeng said, "Then have him come to the testing room."
The four children of the Xi family were born to different Omegas.
The eldest brother, Xi Li, didn't join the military. After graduating, he went straight into the parliament but later left.
The second child, Xi Chun, worked at a design institute and was a homebody Beta. The third child, Xi Yang, had been vain since childhood, started her own business, and was always away on business trips.
The Omega father of the first and second children had passed away many years ago. Xi Yang and Xi Zhoumeng were born from Xi Mingguang's second marriage to an Omega.
Xi Zhoumeng's personality seemed fine at first glance, but in reality, she was moody and unpredictable, making her the most difficult one to deal with.
She showed no courtesy when ordering her older siblings around.
"The one who matched with me 100%—arrange the most expensive full set of tests for her."
The hem of Xi Zhoumeng's skirt fluttered as she walked forward, saying, "I think there's something a bit wrong with her."
This was a statement of fact, containing no prejudice.
Chi Yueshan's last physical examination was for the medical report she had to submit before enrolling.
The electronic code provided by a black-market clinic met the requirements, and it was cheaper than a regular hospital.
She hadn't expected to undergo a full genetic test this time.
The testing process was quick. After it was done, a staff member told her to wait outside.
Chi Yueshan opened her light-brain and browsed the school forum.
The front page was filled with her name and Xi Zhoumeng's.
Just from the thread title, "Can We Ship Romantic Rivals with a 100% Match?", she could guess the content.
What was there to ship between two Omegas? When their heats arrived, they couldn't soothe each other; they would die.
Although two Omegas could help each other find pleasure, the purchase of Alpha pheromones was now banned, and the black-market clinics that performed gland removal surgery had all been shut down. There was simply no reason to defy social conventions.
One had to live, after all.
Chi Yueshan scrolled down and saw a photo of Wen Xinghuo, which she subconsciously saved.
Her light-brain was self-assembled, so it was a bit outdated. The storage space wasn't large and needed to be cleared out frequently.
This was nothing for Chi Yueshan.
She opened the folder where she saved Wen Xinghuo's photos and felt a little sad again.
The school was so big. Even if she saw Wen Xinghuo at today's event, it would be difficult to get a chance to speak with her alone.
There was also no way to get Wen Xinghuo's contact number.
After all, the other person had to approve the request personally.
Asking Xi Zhoumeng was even more out of the question. If she were Wen Xinghuo's rumored girlfriend, she wouldn't give it out either, right?
Chi Yueshan opened another folder, which was full of photos from the Lower World.
The small shop in the underground mechanical city had long since been repossessed. Her Master, Zhou Fengqin, had also been cremated, without even a tombstone.
Chi Yueshan was always alone, with nothing permanent in her life.
"Xiao Yueshan, two hundred years ago, this planet also had very powerful Omega mecha pilots."
"You can be one too."
A specific person in a specific era. Unless I become that kind of person, I won't have the right to call myself successful.
Chi Yueshan lowered her head. In the photo, her Master's expression was gentle—a precious memory for Chi Yueshan.
The affection she had felt since she was a child was always fleeting.
For example, her father's affection became restrained after he remarried. He was much happier when he spoke of Chi Yueshan's mother.
Unfortunately, he was a weak Omega who worked as a waiter in a tavern, a low-class O with D-rank spiritual power.
He'd had a one-night stand with a beautiful military officer.
The Lower World was always garrisoned by the military, but they operated on a rotation system and might be rotated out after just a month.
It wasn't as if there were no nobles who came just to pad their resumes.
Getting pregnant without being marked proved that the Alpha's spiritual power was very high, at least S-rank.
The Omega hadn't asked for the other's name; perhaps it had all been too rushed. He only had a single gold button, which he left to Chi Yueshan before he died, without telling his daughter to go find her.
He just told her to grow up well.
Unfortunately, her Alpha stepmother was also heartless.
The kicked-out Chi Yueshan was left with only a gold button that her stepmother didn't know about.
With nowhere else to hide it, she kept the button under her tongue.
Later, that button became the backplate of her light-brain watch. The material was excellent.
Her Master said it was a type of gold ore that only nobles could buy, possibly imported from other star systems.
Chi Yueshan wanted to find that woman.
It wasn't that she wanted to seek justice for her father. She just thought that, if possible...
...she could get that person to give her some money, or write her a letter of recommendation.
She loved mecha and wanted to be a mecha pilot, even if she was an unqualified O.
If only my spiritual power was S-rank, she thought, at least my tuition would be waived.
Chi Yueshan sighed.
"Student over there, your report is ready."
a staff member called out.
Chi Yueshan walked over.
She chanted silently in her heart: The 100% match is fake, it's fake! I won't be forced into marriage!
That's right, what's the point of two Omegas getting married?! Even if I were to get into an O-O relationship, I would never choose a crazy young miss like Xi Zhoumeng!
