Level up, complete!
Wen Yuncheng was unaware of what the two Protectors were thinking, but it didn't matter if they knew. As for everyone else...? There weren't that many Star Emperors just passing by. A sudden return to the Imperial Capital to stop her challenges might arouse suspicion, so Wen Yuncheng didn't pause at all. She opened her list, looked at the remaining second-tier sects, randomly chose one, and headed to its location.
Once she finished challenging all the second-tier sects, Wen Yuncheng would probably rest for a while before preparing to challenge the first-tier sects. The first-tier sects were all major powers, and their younger generation wasn't limited to people her age; those five or six years older were still considered her peers. However, these challenges were like arena matches, and with her buffs, Wen Yuncheng was confident she wouldn't fail. After all... hadn't the Little Ice Mountain's sparring exchanges with the various sects gone quite smoothly?
Aboard the Gugu Bird, Wen Yuncheng began to review the skills and blueprints she had unlocked at level 60.
[The shop has unlocked a life-extending potion. You are limited to one purchase at level 60,] 1947 reminded her just as she was about to open the skills menu.
It unlocked at the Star King level? Wen Yuncheng opened the shop. The potion wasn't expensive, only 50 points, clearly a perk for its bound user. She bought it immediately, and the potion's icon grayed out. Holding it in her hand, she examined it for a moment. It looked similar to an MP/HP potion. Wen Yuncheng drank it in one gulp, feeling only a cool liquid slide down her throat, with no particular taste.
She waited, but she didn't feel any "warm current rising from her dantian and flowing through her limbs and bones," nor did she feel a cozy warmth spreading through her body. It was no different from drinking a glass of ice water.
[...It's a potion that improves your constitution, not some kind of heavenly treasure that acts as a tonic. As long as it works, that's what matters,] 1947 said, sounding a bit helpless at Wen Yuncheng's silent complaints. [Everything in the shop is top-quality. You'll see the effects in the future.]
Wen Yuncheng nodded. She had already drunk the potion, effective or not. If she reached the end of her lifespan one day only to find the potion was useless-1947 would have probably unbound itself and run off by then, and it wasn't like she could go argue with it.
[??? It's really real!]
Yes, yes, it was just a random thought, Wen Yuncheng placated it before opening her skill template to look at the new skills available at the Star King level.
Airstrike Support: Summons a bomber to drop Silver Busters on a designated location, causing explosive damage. Number of drops: 20. Cooldown: 20 minutes.
Floating Magnetic Disk: Levitate, fly. (Can be affected by camouflage, does not consume MP.) Can be summoned or dismissed at will.
Spiritual Imprint: Places a spiritual imprint on an enemy. All mechanical units will focus their attacks on the marked enemy, gaining a 10% firepower bonus and a 30% attack speed bonus. (Crafted mechanical units also receive the bonus.) (Only one imprint can exist at a time.)
Passive - G-Series Expansion: Improves the performance of G-Series mechanical units and reduces their assembly time. When dealing damage to an enemy with a G-Series unit, there is a 1% chance to randomly apply one of the following negative effects: "Blind, Freeze, Burn, Poison, Confusion."
Wen Yuncheng spent eight hundred points to learn all the skills. Among the Star King-level skills, there was only one offensive skill; the rest were utility-based. The Floating Magnetic Disk was the flight ability 1947 had mentioned, and the Spiritual Imprint... that was quite powerful. A 30% attack speed bonus!
But after learning them, it felt a bit anticlimactic. She felt she was lacking in offensive options and had expected some kind of ultimate killing move at the Star King level. After learning the skills, Wen Yuncheng turned to the blueprints unlocked this time-the Mechanical Throne?
Mechanical Throne: (Unique) When the Mechanical Overlord sits on the throne, the "Fierce Battle" buff is automatically activated, covering all mechanical units within a five-hundred-square-meter radius centered on the throne.
(Fierce Battle: All mechanical units' firepower +30%, attack speed +30%, defense +10%. Can be stacked with other buffs.)
Note: The Mechanical Throne can be moved through the air in conjunction with the Floating Magnetic Disk.
This... this wasn't a throne, it was clearly a battle standard!
Only now did Wen Yuncheng truly grasp the concept that "a Mechanical Master is an army of one." Look, she had even unlocked the exclusive battle standard for her class!
The blueprint cost 500 points, which Wen Yuncheng unlocked immediately. Once the parts for the C-03 Air Wing in her manufacturing queue were finished, she could put the blueprint in and start producing the throne.
Mechanical Overlord... Mechanical Throne. How cool was that? Wen Yuncheng couldn't help but imagine herself sitting on the throne, commanding her mechanical army to attack. It was a wonderful thought.
However, she couldn't reveal any of this for the time being. Among the new skills and items she'd gained at the Star King level, probably only the passive and the Spiritual Imprint could be used without being discovered.
Wen Yuncheng continued until she had challenged all six of the remaining second-tier sects before returning to the Imperial Capital to rest for a few days. The Mechanical Throne was completed, embedded with three mechanical cores for power. Two large cores were at its base, and one small "modified" core was in its backrest. Wen Yuncheng sprayed the throne with gold paint, making it look incredibly magnificent. If she used this on a battlefield, she was guaranteed to be the first thing anyone saw!
The few days Wen Yuncheng spent in the Imperial Capital were dedicated to assembling her C-03 Air Wings. During the last attack by the Star Emperor, all of her Air Wings had been destroyed. She had been too busy challenging sects these past days, so Number One, Number Two, and Number Three had been assembling them for her at night while she slept. Their efficiency wasn't high, and a dozen sets of parts had piled up. With the second-tier sects finished, she could use this break to clear out the parts and assemble all the Air Wings.
But as she assembled them, Wen Yuncheng realized her points were dwindling faster and faster. Her expenses were starting to outpace her income. It made sense; her only source of points was the Heart of a Victor, and challenging a sect only earned her a dozen or so points, not even enough for a single energy core.
Host: Wen Yuncheng
Race: Human
Age: 22
Class: Mechanical Overlord
Level: 60
Experience: 45685/74000
Points: 11285
Wen Yuncheng sighed as she looked at her point total, which seemed on the verge of dropping below five digits. Still, even if she just lived off her savings, they would last a while, so it wasn't urgent. For now, she should focus on challenging all the first-tier sects.
The most famous first-tier sects within the Empire were the Blood Fiend Sect, the Sky High Sect, the Flowing Cloud Sect, the Dream Haven Sect, Chaoyan Pavilion, and Zhengxi Tower. These six major sects were not ranked in any particular order of strength and were considered roughly equal. However, the Flowing Cloud Sect had produced a genius of the sword, Lin Jinyu, who faintly suppressed the other sects.
If Wen Yuncheng didn't exist, the other sects would have been more than happy to form a marriage alliance with the Flowing Cloud Sect. Unfortunately, that ice flower had already been claimed, and none of the prodigies from the other sects could compare to Wen Yuncheng...
It wasn't that no one lamented this fact, but such words were only spoken in private complaints and laments. No one dared to say them to the faces of those involved.
Wen Yuncheng looked at the six major sects, then at the other pitiful sects that, despite being on the first-tier list, were not even named in the legends of the Empire. After a moment's hesitation, she decided to start with the Blood Fiend Sect, then pick randomly, and end with the Flowing Cloud Sect. Perfect.
Wen Yuncheng stayed until January 13th to go on a date with Lin Jinyu and celebrate the Little Ice Mountain's birthday. The next day, she took a flying transport from the station to the Blood Fiend Sect and "dong, dong, dong," struck the great drum outside their gates.
Having reached the Star King level, Wen Yuncheng was welcomed into the Blood Fiend Sect. She leaped directly onto the arena stage without the slightest bit of embarrassment, cupped her hands toward the crowd below, and declared, "I, disciple Wen Yuncheng, have come seeking the path to invincibility! I ask the senior brothers and sisters of the Blood Fiend Sect for your guidance!"
"Many people say you're the number one of the younger generation. I'm two years older than you, yet I've only just stepped into the Star Spirit realm. Though I know I'm no match, I still wish to witness Miss Wen's skills!" A disciple from below quickly jumped onto the stage. He looked a bit old for his age, perhaps because he hadn't shaved. Wen Yuncheng was a little surprised to hear he was only two years her senior.
But it was true he was only at the Star Spirit level. As for his age... whatever, if you say two years, it's two years. Wen Yuncheng didn't dwell on it. She gave a slight bow and prepared for the match to begin.
The moment the match started, Wen Yuncheng raised her hand and fired a Magnetic Pulse, levitating her opponent and knocking him down. The Mountain River Seal flipped over and smashed down, and the Xingyi Bracelet was thrown out. The bracelet instantly enlarged, binding the courageous senior brother, before the Mountain River Seal came crashing down, knocking him unconscious.
With a thought, Wen Yuncheng recalled the two spirit treasures to her equipment template. She looked at the disciples below the stage and gave them a friendly smile. "So, who's next?"
The disciples of the Blood Fiend Sect: ...
The final challenger was the Young Master of the Blood Fiend Sect.
The Young Master really didn't want to go on stage, but he had no choice; he was the Young Master. When Lin Jinyu had challenged them, she had unleashed her sword intent without a word, suppressing him at every turn and even shattering his spirit treasure. Now, not long after, this Wen Yuncheng had come knocking...
The Young Master decided to just go through the motions and didn't plan on using any spirit treasures. If another one got shattered... his heart would break. He couldn't win anyway, so he would just make a token effort.
Wen Yuncheng, however, was unaware of his thoughts. She was planning to have a proper fight with the Young Master. As soon as the match began, she placed a Spiritual Imprint on him. Then, she deployed an Ex-S Viper Cannon and condensed a G-3 Predator.
The Young Master froze for a second. He had been prepared to be hit by a Magnetic Pulse and lose, but Wen Yuncheng didn't use one?! He reacted instantly, summoning his long halberd and unleashing his Star Power as he slashed toward Wen Yuncheng.
Wen Yuncheng used a Launching Slide to dodge the attack, and the Viper Cannon's fire rained down on the Young Master. He swept his halberd horizontally, weaving it furiously to create a dense barrier of Star Power that blocked the cannonballs. In the next moment, the six small machines of the Predator flew toward his head. The Young Master knew he couldn't delay and shifted his stance to close in on Wen Yuncheng.
Wen Yuncheng simply deployed an RX-78 Pursuer and an EZ-8 Self-Destructor, casually tossing a Flame Exploder as the Young Master charged at her. She didn't use these skills often anymore, but she wanted to see the effect of the 10% firepower bonus. After all... thrown and self-destructing units didn't have an attack speed to speak of.
The Young Master let out a low shout, releasing his Star Power in a wave that swept outward. He pushed off the ground, intending to leap over the machines and attack Wen Yuncheng. However, just as he rose into the air, his vision suddenly went black. The Young Master's mind fell into chaos, and he tumbled from the sky. "My-my eyes?! ...Why? I can't see!"
Wen Yuncheng looked at the cloud of black mist above the Young Master's head, which it seemed only she could see, and fell silent.
