Chapter 202
Tang Qiu brought Reese to the Elf Race to find allies.
After cooperating with people from the Gosse Church a few times, Delphine was no longer as hostile toward them as she had been initially. When she saw Reese beside Tang Qiu, she wasn't warm, but she didn't give her the cold shoulder either, even offering a nod in greeting.
The treehouse wasn't very spacious. The three of them sat around the table, leaving no room for a fourth person.
"Are you here to see Monica?" Delphine poured two cups of nectar and pushed them toward Tang Qiu and Reese. Her gaze swept over Tang Qiu's face before finally settling on Reese. "She's your sister, isn't she? The auras you carry are very similar."
Elves are the race most sensitive to auras. Although the auras of Reese and Monica were similar, there was still a difference due to the strength of their Power of Light.
Only someone like Delphine could tell them apart at a glance.
At the mention of Monica, Reese's expression turned serious. "Has she fully recovered?"
Delphine nodded, smiling. "She woke up a few days ago and is recovering well."
Although she received daily reports on Monica's condition, hearing directly from Delphine that she was fine made the weight in Reese's heart finally lift. She smiled in thanks. "The Holy See is too chaotic. Thank you for letting her stay here. I feel much more at ease."
She took out two Space Gems filled with Holy Water of Light and placed them on the table. "This is a thank-you gift. Also, Monica might need to stay here a while longer."
Although Delphine and Tang Qiu were on good terms and taking in Monica was a small favor, Monica was still her sister, and Reese would certainly not forget the Elf Race's kindness.
Knowing the Elves liked Holy Water of Light, she naturally catered to their tastes.
Delphine picked up a Space Gem and glanced at it, raising an eyebrow. The smile on her lips softened considerably. "Of course. As long as she doesn't wander off, no one can get past the Elf Race to harm her."
Reese smiled and took a sip of the nectar.
Delphine put the Space Gems away and looked up at Tang Qiu, asking curiously, "Is this all you came for today?"
Tang Qiu shook her head. "No." She said thoughtfully, "I came to ask you and that little guardian of yours for a favor."
"Oh?" Delphine asked, intrigued. "What kind of favor?"
Tang Qiu raised her hand, her fair, slender index finger suggestively tracing a line across her neck. She smirked. "Killing someone."
"Who?"
"You should know these two." Seeing a flicker in Delphine's expression, Tang Qiu let out a low chuckle and said slowly, "Gabriel and the Holy Son."
The Elf Race's Tree of Life had always been controlled by the Pope, Cambecus, and Gabriel. Delphine didn't have much of an impression of the Holy Son, but her impression of Gabriel was very deep.
Of course, these impressions were all born from hatred.
Delphine's pale green eyes narrowed slightly, a cold light flashing within them. "That sounds rather nice."
She looked down and smiled faintly. "As it happens, I've been quite idle lately."
For the sake of her race, she wouldn't proactively provoke the people of the Holy See, but... if an opportunity for revenge presented itself, she wouldn't let it go.
Tang Qiu handed her two teleportation scrolls and said softly, "In three days, we'll meet in Setaya."
After settling on a time with Delphine, Tang Qiu and Reese left. As they reached the border of the elven territory, Tang Qiu thought of something and turned to ask Reese, "Aren't you going to see Monica?"
Reese paused, looking down in thought before shaking her head. "No." She curved her lips into a detached smile. "Knowing she has recovered is enough."
There was no need to see Monica in her current state. Although she herself didn't mind, with Monica's proud personality, she would definitely hide away and cry if she saw her like this.
She liked to tease Monica and make her angry, but she didn't like to see her tears.
The two of them chatted as they walked, soon leaving the territory, their figures shrinking into the distance until they disappeared.
Not long after Tang Qiu and Reese left, Monica emerged from deep within the woods. With one hand on a tree trunk, she stared blankly in the direction they had gone.
Suddenly, a pair of arms wrapped around her thigh. Monica hastily wiped the tears from her face and looked down at the little elf. She tried to force a smile but failed, asking softly, "What is it?"
The little elf beckoned for her to crouch down. Monica, her face pale, squatted down and looked at her in confusion.
The little elf raised a hand to wipe away Monica's tears and said sadly, "Don't cry. These are for you."
She pushed a handful of white fruits she was holding into Monica's arms. "Her Majesty the Queen said that if you grind these fruits into a paste, it can remove scars. You should try it."
"Her Majesty the Queen is amazing. She wouldn't lie to me."
Monica froze for a moment, fresh tears threatening to fall. She tilted her head back, sniffled, and managed a weak smile at the little elf. "Thank you," she choked out.
She cradled the white fruits as her tears dripped onto them. Looking down, she repeated softly, "Thank you."
Feeling she had completed her mission, the little elf ran off cheerfully. She ran all the way to Delphine's treehouse and hugged her leg. "Your Majesty the Queen, I gave the things to Bishop Monica."
Delphine reached out and patted the little elf's head, praising her with a smile, "Very good. You did an excellent job."
She took out a bow and handed it to the little elf. "This is for you."
The little elf's eyes lit up, and she hugged the bow happily, refusing to let go.
Patricia jumped down from a tree, bent over to pick up the little elf clinging to Delphine, placed her outside, and then closed the treehouse door with a blank expression.
"In three days, you're coming with me to Setaya." Delphine poured a cup of nectar and placed it on the opposite side of the table, gesturing for Patricia to sit. "Don't go out for the next few days."
Patricia sat down, glanced at the nectar, and asked coolly, "What are we going to Setaya for?"
Delphine recounted her conversation with Tang Qiu, then looked at Patricia with a smile. "The Holy See is in turmoil. If both Gabriel and the Holy Son die, reclaiming the Tree of Life will no longer be a difficult task."
From what Tang Qiu had hinted, it seemed the Pope was also in some kind of trouble.
Patricia stroked her longbow, fell silent for a moment, then nodded. "Alright."
Ever since they returned from Witch City, Delphine had noticed that Patricia had become much more composed. She propped her chin on one hand and stared at the person opposite her. Seeing her grow a little nervous under her gaze, Delphine's lips curled. She pushed the nectar toward her. "Aren't you going to drink it?"
"I remember you loved this when you were little. You used to run to me every day to beg for a cup."
Other elves had it too, but Patricia would only drink what she gave her, being particularly stubborn about it.
"That's something little elves like to drink." Patricia pushed the cup away, her expression cold in refusal.
Delphine frowned, retorting, "Who says only little elves can drink it?"
Patricia looked up at her without speaking, but her expression showed no agreement.
"Oh, you." Delphine sighed helplessly. "So childish."
As she spoke, she picked up the cup in front of Patricia, about to drink it herself, but her wrist was suddenly grabbed.
The word "childish" seemed to have stepped on Patricia's tail. Her face darkened as she grabbed Delphine's wrist, pulled it toward her, and, still holding it, bent down to drink the nectar in one gulp. She let out a cold huff, then stood up and strode away.
Delphine watched her retreating back, set the cup down, and tapped her fingers on the table a few times. In the end, she couldn't help but lower her head and laugh out loud.
Although she looked composed, she was, after all, a young elf who had only recently come of age. She really couldn't take a bit of teasing.
Delphine shook her head, a smile lingering on her lips for a long time.
Three days passed in a flash. Before setting out, Tang Qiu changed out of her bishop's robes, deliberately draping a wide cloak over herself to hide her figure. After a moment's thought, she took a mask out of her Space Gem.
Lucille leaned against the table, watching her. When she saw her take out the mask, she reached out, pulled her over, and carefully put it on for her. "Are you worried?"
The mask was cold, and Tang Qiu frowned as it touched her skin. She raised a hand to grasp Lucille's wrist, leaning against her and playing with her fingers. "Not worried. I just think it's better to be cautious."
At a time like this, she had to be extra careful not to expose her identity.
A werewolf couldn't remain in the Holy See. No matter how much power she held, her identity alone would be met with resistance from the brainwashed believers of the Church.
Lucille used her other hand to smooth the golden hair at the side of Tang Qiu's face, then bent down to press a kiss to her hair.
There was a knock on the window, and Lola's somewhat exasperated voice sounded from outside. "Stop being so lovey-dovey. Are we going or not?"
Tang Qiu buried her face in Lucille's shoulder and let out a low chuckle before pulling away, opening the window, and jumping out.
Reese stood in the night, wrapped in a wide cloak. Seeing Tang Qiu, she nodded. She raised her right hand, a letter held between her index and middle fingers. "Intel on Gabriel. The Holy Son is resting alone at the manor tonight. Gabriel deliberately moved the Church's troops away."
"Gabriel really is eager for the Holy Son to die," Tang Qiu remarked with a shake of her head. She took out a scroll and unfurled it. The figures of the four were quickly enveloped in white light and then vanished.
The sealing of the Dark Array within Setaya had been halted halfway through. The Holy Son had been unable to command his subordinates recently, and the monsters that had been so difficult to eliminate were multiplying again.
To provide Reese with a convenient place to make her move, Gabriel had even abandoned his comfortable manor to live in the wild. He sat inside a tent, the orange candlelight flickering, casting his elongated shadow onto the canvas.
A Holy Knight in armor entered, knelt, and reported, "There is nothing unusual near the Holy Son's manor."
Gabriel, who had been resting with his eyes closed, opened them. He was silent for a moment before ordering, "Go back and keep watch."
The Holy Knight acknowledged the order. He was about to turn and leave when he was stopped. "Have Abel come see me."
"Bishop Abel is not in Setaya. You sent him to support the Gru Empire some time ago."
Gabriel was taken aback. "He hasn't returned yet?" he asked, surprised.
The Holy Knight shook his head. "Not yet."
Gabriel nodded, dismissing him. The tent flap was opened and then closed. A dark figure emerged from the shadows cast on the tent wall, its blood-red eyes looking eerie and cold in the darkness.
"Go take a look at the Holy Son's manor." Gabriel turned to face the vampire. With his back to the light, his smile looked sinister. "Remember, no matter which one of them dies, don't let the other one go."
"And if they're both lucky enough to survive, then send them both to meet the Dark God."
