ASER - Chapter 187
Chapter 187: Apology
The situation at the Zen Courtyard had settled, but aside from the rather strong "mourning couple" vibe between Wolong and Fengchu, everyone's attention was soon drawn to something else.
Explosions.
"That seems to be the Ghost Forest Relay Station. Oh no, the Demon Sound Sect's conspiracy isn't limited to just our Zen Courtyard!"
"Quick, go provide support!"
The wailing ended. The great Wolong, with reddened eyes, entrusted the unconscious Brother Fengchu to a trustworthy person.
"Master Huimin, will you do it?"
Everyone strongly agreed. After all, he was a Buddhist cultivator and a "healer." He could help save people, and there were other unconscious cultivators.
Master Huimin readily accepted the task, but he glanced at A'Diao. "Mr. Wolong, after using that forbidden technique, are you injured?"
A'Diao: "No."
No? Then could it still be called a forbidden technique?
Just as everyone was puzzled, A'Diao put on a pained expression, as if finding it hard to speak, "It damages my kidneys, causes infertility. If it weren't for Little Bird Brother and all of you, I really... sigh... look at my beard."
She gently tore off the beard. Everyone clearly saw that around the mouth on this person's dark, chubby face, there was no beard at all; it was completely clean.
Usually, the only ones who would stick a fake beard on themselves are... well, you know.
Holy crap!
Master Huimin: "..."
Yu Chisu and the others: "..."
Ah, that, that's a huge sacrifice, worthy of our admiration.
She gained another large sum of Mental Power.
Tens of billions, just like that, easily.
But Huimin still didn't contribute any Mental Power. Damn, is his cultivation realm that high?
A'Diao really wanted to know this person's identity. She pondered finding a way to "farm" him later.
She wouldn't allow anyone in this world from whom she couldn't farm Mental Power to exist.
Unless they were dead!
Toilet: "..."
Chen A'Diao, almost all the aliases you've used end up ruined. I just wonder how the real Li Wolong will react, coughing up blood, when he hears about this in the future.
Over at the relay station, they would have originally needed their support. But when A'Diao and the others were still about three hundred meters away, they saw a large number of cold, clear flying swords whizzing back and forth... Each flying sword was augmented with an Evil-Slaying Seal.
This was the most orthodox type of Evil-Slaying Sword Cultivator. Slaying evil spirits like slaughtering dogs.
A'Diao focused her gaze. She saw someone on the branch of a tree. Though the branches were twisted like demonic claws, that person was dressed in white purer than snow, their black hair flying, a captivating jade pendant of greenish-blue hanging from their waist. The entire person was like a stark, cold lighthouse radiating a vivid halo in a hell overrun by ghouls and demons.
"A Lesser Grandmaster of the Sword Dao, Duanmu Biexue, known as 'White Robe Parting Snow'... it's her?!"
Luo Guang murmured. A'Diao came back to her senses, "Who?"
"Brother Wolong, you might not know. This person is Duanmu Biexue, the eldest daughter of the direct line of the Duanmu family from three hundred years ago. She is a renowned 'Innate Sword Physique' in the Sword Dao. Born at the end of the First Era, she experienced the great catastrophe. But from her birth until she participated in the Diannan Campaign at the age of 29, it was rumored she had perished. Because the Duanmu family has historically had few female descendants, they are generally regarded as treasures. Not to mention her exceptional talent. For her sake, the Duanmu family ancestors of that time went all out, slaughtering most of her enemies. At that time, she was at the Lesser Grandmaster cultivation level. Unexpectedly, she didn't die."
A'Diao was a bit stunned. "Isn't it true that only bodies at the Grandmaster level can possibly survive for three hundred years? The age limit for a Lesser Grandmaster is 150, right?"
Most of those who survived are Lesser Spirit Kings. For example, the ancestors of ducal houses like the Duanmu and Cao families. However, they were basically at the peak of the Grandmaster realm, the kind who could fight ten Grandmasters at once. So, Old Dog Qu having the foundation to break through to Lesser Spirit King makes sense.
Luo Guang: "That's right. I think she must have fallen into a dormant state back then. The Duanmu family probably used a secret technique to preserve her body, wanting to save her life. Who would have thought that later the spiritual energy would be cut off? She didn't wake up, but she didn't die either. Three hundred years later, when spiritual energy revived, she survived."
Yu Chisu: "Speaking of which, this generation's Duanmu Qingyang is hailed as the Pearl of the Capital. Several generations ago, Duanmu Biexue was also the Pearl of the Capital of her era. And similarly, she also had a marriage contract with the Zhao family."
Li Jinghui: "But she's not as unlucky as Duanmu Qingyang, who ran into a black hole like Chen A'Diao. I heard that now, in the entire Tang Song Nation, no one dares to propose marriage to her..."
A'Diao: "..."
I suspect you're deliberately badmouthing me.
Duanmu Biexue noticed them and turned to look. At this moment, her flying sword had also finished hunting down the other ghost spirits. The flying sword returned to her hand, and she sheathed it.
After all, she was a senior from the First Era and a Grandmaster-level cultivator. Everyone bowed to her in respect.
Duanmu Biexue nodded slightly. She asked about the situation at the Zen Courtyard. When she learned that someone named Li Wolong had eliminated the Demon King, she instinctively looked over... her gaze swept around but didn't lock onto anyone.
A'Diao: "Me, me, me! I'm here, Senior Duanmu! This junior is here!"
Duanmu Biexue looked at him for a moment. Her fingers couldn't help but stroke the hilt of her sword. She said, "You've worked hard."
Nothing else. That was it.
Could such an otherworldly Sword Dao fairy maiden lock eyes for ten thousand years with a kidney-deficient, squash-faced catfish spirit? Impossible!
Toilet: "I suddenly understand why the Mountain Head gave you this identity. It's too ugly. Although it has a strong presence, it's basically someone normal people wouldn't want to interact with further. Look, ever since you thrashed them, those people despicably still want to get close to you, being hostile while trying to get your attention, all because you're beautiful. But if you were ugly... then there would be no 'then'."
As long as one is ugly enough, one can achieve a reverse form of low-keyness.
A'Diao: "..."
Toilet: "And ever since you became Li Wolong, even when you were wailing just now, I could find you somewhat pleasing to the eye. Instead of feeling like before that you were willingly debasing yourself, defiling yourself..."
These were the heartfelt words of a "girlfriend fan."
A'Diao felt inwardly intoxicated. But when the main gate of the relay station opened, the group of people who came into view made her heart grow still.
People from the Imperial Kinsmen. Also equivalent to hooks of the Imperial Clan.
The rescuers who came to the relay station belonged to an alliance of Imperial Kinsmen and powerful nobles. They came to save their own people. Because core interests were involved, they could set aside their usual clique barriers and cooperate temporarily. That's why Duanmu Biexue came, and experts from the Imperial Kinsmen also came.
"Oh? You also killed a Ghost King? Li Wolong, also a military general? Let this Prince take a look."
The Prince of Huainan, belonging to the Imperial Kinsmen, naturally had a noble status. Although he was over thirty, many resources had been "burned" on him, pushing him to the Glimmer level. But his guards were powerful, two at the peak of the Star Realm, with a very imposing aura.
Did his words imply that Li Wolong should hand over the body of the Level 12 Ghost King?
Ghost bodies and ghost spirit cores were inherently much more valuable than ordinary demon spirits or demon kings. Who would be willing?
But he didn't explicitly rob them; he just said he wanted to "take a look." After looking, he could then say the military department needed it for research and ask Li Wolong to hand it over as a contribution. If you didn't contribute, it meant there was something wrong with your thinking...
As the atmosphere became somewhat awkward, Moqi Xiongguang and others, having submitted to the Imperial Clan before, still carried a degree of obedience and dared not say anything for a moment.
At this moment, one could clearly feel that as the Imperial Clan grew stronger, their desire to control the Daoist Sects and powerful nobles also grew stronger.
Because resistance came at a price.
Duanmu Biexue frowned slightly and was about to speak.
"Your Highness, Prince of Huainan, if you haven't seen a Ghost King's body, I have one here. Would you like to see it?" Luo Guang suddenly said with a smile.
The Prince of Huainan narrowed his eyes at him, "Who are you?"
"Luo Guang."
The Prince of Huainan saw that Luo Guang was protecting Li Wolong. He didn't actually insist on having these ghost spirit bodies. Rather, most of the cultivators in the Ghost Valley area were rogue cultivators who didn't submit to the imperial court's discipline and assignments. That's why he wanted to suppress them a bit, to build up his prestige, so he could later recruit them into his own team for his use. He hadn't expected a troublemaker to appear.
"Then hand it over..." the Prince of Huainan said with a smile.
Luo Guang: "Let's forget it for now. Your Highness can come to my Mount Lu to see it in the future. By the way, it's the Luo family of Lushan, located in the Sixth Heaven. Your Highness, don't go to the wrong address. My great-grandfather is a Lesser Spirit King; he might need ghost bodies for research."
Prince of Huainan: "..."
Everyone was instantly stunned.
Even Duanmu Biexue was slightly surprised.
Li Jinghui: "Why are you looking at me? My family isn't in the Sixth Heaven. But my great-grandfather is also a Lesser Spirit King. Right, Chisu? What do you think?"
Yu Chisu glanced at him, lowered her eyes, and said faintly, "My family doesn't have a Lesser Spirit King."
Everyone breathed a slight sigh of relief. It seemed her background was rather ordinary among the three.
"But the Mountain Head is my paternal granduncle, just a collateral one. I'm also exceptionally ordinary in my family, no need to pay any mind."
The atmosphere was very awkward for a moment. Only then did A'Diao realize that the Mountain Head's surname was Yu.
Facts proved that the name of Lushan Academy was extremely useful in the Tang Song Nation. And among Lushan's disciples, there were truly formidable ones. For example, Luo Guang and the other two were no pushovers. They decisively acted to "slap his face" to prevent the Prince of Huainan from using the Imperial Kinsmen's name to suppress rogue cultivators on the border on behalf of the Imperial Clan.
Lushan Academy, though lofty and superior, also needed the support of others. Rogue cultivators and sects were its largest followers.
The Prince of Huainan, who had just been noble and domineering, now had a particularly awkward and ugly expression.
Imperial Kinsmen? What damn use were Imperial Kinsmen? Even the Crown Prince had to dismount and wait at the foot of Mount Lu. Princes had to obediently endure the mountain's suppression when they went there.
Toilet: "Does this count as dog eat dog?"
The Prince of Huainan lost all face. What prestige was left from what he had built up after leading people to the rescue? Not to mention Moqi Xiongguang and the others feeling embarrassed for him, even the three thousand-plus cultivators at the relay station were speechless.
Slap, slap, slap in the face.
However, the Prince of Huainan still had some tact. He smiled, "So you are disciples of Lushan. No wonder you are so powerful, reaching the Star... Upper-grade Star Realm at such a young age."
He couldn't discern their cultivation levels at all. It was his guards who reminded him via voice transmission.
He was incredibly jealous inwardly.
Seeing that he couldn't regain face from the Lushan side, he looked towards A'Diao.
A'Diao gave an awkward smile, "Your Highness, don't worry, I am not a disciple of Lushan."
How cruel and heartless!
Are you mocking me?
The Prince of Huainan was furious internally. Before he could say anything, she added, "But my great-grandfather fought with the Mountain Head of Lushan, a battle to the death that lasted three days and three nights. He just lost... By the way, his name is Li Chungang. In the First Era, his nickname was the Peerless Sword Cultivator Li Ergou. But my family's inheritance isn't great; the Sword Dao wasn't passed down. Instead, I awakened a talent for talismans. Now I've only mastered the method for making Level 11 talismans. Such stupidity and ignorance, a piece of rotten wood that cannot be carved. It made my great-grandfather die of anger."
Alright, she admitted it. She had decided to use this alias precisely because she saw this piece of information on Li Wolong's identity profile.
Although the Mountain Head said Li Ergou was actually dead, people outside didn't know he was dead, so this identity was still useful.
Heaven knew, she had dreamed of a day when she could show off by relying on her ancestors.
And the effect?
Competing based on fathers is nothing, competing based on grandfathers is nothing! If you have the guts, compete based on great-grandfathers!
The originally terrifying Ghost Valley and Ghost Forest suddenly became a super "Versailles" scene of competing great-grandfathers.
But only then did everyone realize that the talismans this Li Wolong had detonated were made by himself? Holy crap!
Everyone's eyes lit up.
The Prince of Huainan looked as if he had eaten shit, his face dark and gloomy. The others wanted to laugh but didn't dare.
Defeating magic with magic?
A'Diao estimated that after these three waves, she had gained over a hundred billion in Mental Power.
Actually, if she hadn't unfortunately run into the Prince of Huainan and his group and been targeted, A'Diao wouldn't have stood out. But the matter of killing the Ghost King was known, and given the typical behavior of this group, they would definitely investigate her identity. Now that Luo Guang and the other two had already "competed grandfathers," it was only natural for her to follow suit.
The Prince of Huainan, "beaten black and blue" by the "great-grandfathers," suddenly became much more low-key. He soon left, using the excuse of needing to return to Blood Abandonment City to supervise border defenses. But when he left, Duanmu Biexue stayed behind. The Prince of Huainan tried to persuade Duanmu Biexue for a while but ultimately failed and had to leave resentfully.
She vaguely heard some people at the relay station say that when this Prince of Huainan returned to Blood Abandonment City, he would definitely cause trouble for that Vice Minister of Works. Because when they came to reinforce Ghost Valley, that Chen Xun had refused to allocate the best equipment, displeasing the Prince of Huainan.
A'Diao saw it clearly—whether it was female cultivators from prominent noble families or those from humble backgrounds, as long as they had high talent and beauty, the Imperial Clan and Imperial Kinsmen acted as if they were on chicken blood, insisting on "licking a couple of mouthfuls."
Toilet: "The Duanmu family still has some things passed down through generations, for example, being surrounded by scumbags... This Prince of Huainan seems to have taken a fancy to Duanmu Biexue. It's a bit strange."
It was a bit strange.
With such poor talent, and not being from the direct line of the Imperial Clan, where did he get the nerve? It seemed more like a kind of desperation—as if he were eager to "consume" something to improve his own situation.
You are what you eat.
"The female cultivators he was observing just now weren't limited to Duanmu Biexue. He even looked at Yu Chisu and that one from the He family for quite a while."
A'Diao pondered briefly: "Could it be that Old Dog Qu's secret technique has already been mastered by the Imperial Clan? But because they've only just mastered it, they're using the Imperial Kinsmen for experiments. This Prince of Huainan knows some inside information, which is why he's so desperately looking for candidates. It's not that he absolutely has to 'consume' them, it just shows that he hopes to."
"It seems the first 'bite' taken by that old scoundrel of the Imperial Clan set a good precedent for these younger generations surnamed Dantai."
A'Diao went up to the roof of the relay station. She gazed towards the northern capital, which was completely out of sight, lost in thought.
She wondered what Daoguang Jingci would stir up tonight.
War on the border. But within the Tang Song Nation, especially in the capital, there was widespread celebration, with brilliant lights. It undoubtedly illustrated the decadent scene of "bones freezing to death on the frontier, while meat and wine rot in the capital."
In the inner courtyards of the Imperial Palace, the Qiankun Main Palace. Bridal chamber, wedding night?
The surroundings were heavily guarded, with experts gathered. Palace maids knelt with bowed heads on the tiered, circular platforms outside the palace.
It was the Emperor and Empress's grand wedding, after all; the pomp and ceremony were immense. So grand it was dazzling and mesmerizing.
Crown Prince Dantai Ye stood high on a tower in the Eastern Palace. He looked at the palace ahead, bathed in a brilliant orange glow. He lowered his gaze, his fingers constantly stroking something...
On this night, how many people felt a sense of unresolved indignation or regret?
He recalled his own wedding night with the Crown Princess, a time of universal celebration.
"I remember Mother Empress was overjoyed back then, but she tried hard to hold back her tears."
"She is from a deep-sea foreign race. If she shed tears, they would turn into pearls upon hitting the ground, and Father Emperor would be displeased."
He spoke in a low, hoarse voice. The old eunuch behind him heard, his voice also somewhat hoarse, "Your Highness... your lineage... cannot be mentioned."
Because he was born of a foreign race, he still looked very young despite his age, a fact that was best left unsaid.
Those younger brothers of his didn't know the trickery behind it.
The Crown Prince smiled, "Everyone says I am weak and useless, with mediocre talent. In reality, that's not the reason Father Emperor is wary of and dislikes me. It's mainly because he... is wary of Mother Empress being from a foreign race."
"But back then, it was clearly he who coveted Mother Empress's bloodline, scheming deeply for it. After obtaining it and exhausting its use, he discarded her like a worn-out shoe. From the very beginning, it was impossible for me to become the ruler of Tang Song; I was merely a target."
"Now, he has set his sights on another woman, a nobler and more powerful member of a foreign race."
"This position of Emperor, it's truly wonderful, isn't it."
Unlike him, who couldn't even protect one wife. He smiled and shed tears.
But no one knew, not even the powerful experts of the Imperial Clan watching the Qiankun Palace. They would never have imagined that at the time of the old Emperor's wedding night, in Daoguang Jingci's external residence...
Beneath a secret underground palace, a soul lay in a pool of purple, crystal-like liquid, submerged in the water. After a while, a body sat up from under the water, as if a ghostly painted skin were changing bodies...
Blood Abandonment City. Chen Xun was busy late at night. There was a hint of fatigue in his eyes. But he pushed up his glasses and still completed his work. Only then did he bathe. After a while, wearing a bathrobe, he walked out of the bathroom. He poured a glass of plain water, put his glasses back on, and leaned against the sofa, looking through information sent by the spies he had arranged in various places.
From the Heavenly Spirit Clan, from Lushan, domestic, foreign.
Blood Kite Basin, Ghost Valley, Orchid Water Abyss.
He was like a supercomputer, frantically absorbing all sorts of information. Finally, he obtained the latest intelligence.
The three from Lushan, and Li Chungang's grandson, Li Wolong.
This Prince of Huainan was merely a disposable pawn thrown out by the Imperial Clan to draw hatred... Incredibly stupid, not worth mentioning.
Since they used an Imperial Kinsman prince to attract attention, the Imperial Clan must be planning to deploy something on the border. The current border war seemed dangerous, but it was actually under the Imperial Clan's control. It was merely using the border to gather resources and strengthen the Imperial Clan's hidden power.
"Is it because of A'Diao?" he murmured to himself.
However, he hadn't been thinking for long when a wave of drowsiness overcame him.
He seemed a bit tired lately; after all, he was a mortal. Because he had been working non-stop recently, under the fatigue, the contours of his facial features had become much sharper. His freshly washed, messy black short hair slightly covered his eyes and brows. His thin lips were lightly pressed together, somewhat pale due to discomfort.
A mortal.
Mortals have their own time for life and death; fate is entirely determined by Heaven.
But even if not a mortal... someone as noble and powerful as that woman, hadn't she also become a fire-burning, enchanting butterfly in the rolling red dust of the mortal world?
He pressed his brow, gave a slight, bitter smile, but it quickly transformed into indestructible resolve.
He got up and went into the bedroom. Just as he was about to take off his glasses, he suddenly felt his vision blur...
He immediately realized that his physical ailment was acting up.
A mortal body simply couldn't sustain such high-intensity work. Even if his intellect allowed it, his physical condition did not.
He had been too hasty, and the recent situation was also too urgent.
His cervical spine, or perhaps his constitution, were things that made him feel immense pain and helplessness.
This was probably the most helpless thing for someone like him—people without cultivation talent, in fact, also don't live long.
He felt somewhat powerless, helpless. But this person... in such a weakened state, with his thoughts somewhat detached, he also smelled a familiar fragrance.
He sensed someone approaching him, saying something by his ear, seemingly a question.
"Chen Xun, it's me."
Who says something like that, just "it's me."
Am I supposed to know who you are?
He did indeed know; the fragrance was too familiar.
It was as if his powerful mental body had left his weak physical form, standing at a calm and transcendent point. He understood this person's identity and vaguely realized what she was going to do.
"You..." he said something in a low voice.
She seemed to see that he understood. He was too intelligent; even in such a physical state, he possessed an extraordinary mind.
"Yes. Is it possible? I have a request. My actions are not those of a virtuous person. But you also have your schemes. A transaction. If you don't agree... then I've disturbed you."
He fell silent, probably having an instant epiphany about that day—why someone as lofty as her would pay attention to him, even test him, observe his abilities, and induce him to go to the competition venue.
In fact, she had a purpose all along.
The Chen family, him, A'Diao—she had long been aware of them.
She came not only for the position of Empress but also for the Chen family. But she was unwilling to force it and couldn't bear to act without consent, so she asked him.
They were all pieces on a chessboard. It was just that he now understood her moves, and there was no way out for him. But she didn't yet know his moves.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have needed to ask to understand that he actually had no choice either.
His thoughts, at that moment, connected everything. Because he knew far more than she did—for the Chen family's secrets, for the Chen family's bloodline, for...
He was silent for a second, then put his arm around her waist.
He replied in a low, hoarse voice.
"Power."
"Good."
At that moment, though driven by a certain primal urge, both of them were extremely calm.
The light in his eyes dimmed slightly. His fingers moved, and one hand clasped her wrist.
It was cool to the touch.
A light, elegant fragrance, faint and delicate, entered his nostrils.
He vaguely saw her face, but it was blurry, irresistible.
He fell down, and the world went dark.
Looking down from above, soft, pale snow touched his lips.
It began to melt.
It was as if a snake had slithered into his bathrobe, coiling on his chest. Flowered branches entwined him, blossoms unfurling their fragrance one by one. Softness was crushed, juices stained, painting a vivid and fragrant rain on a pale scroll.
A slender, delicate ankle, like a fish-dragon coming to life, climbed upon the scroll.
Overlapping gasps, restrained and suppressed, finally became a breath blown onto the scroll. It dispersed the condensed ink, lingering on the snow-white skin beside the veins on the neck.
Soaking in, bit by bit.
Bit by bit, it turned into a wisp of smoke.
Finally, an array formation faintly appeared, rotating between the two of them. Within the sealed space, an immense halo of light was locked in, forced to compress infinitely within the space. Countless tiny golden phoenixes fluttered tremulously... like blooming flower clusters.
After an unknown amount of time, the dark purple silk bathrobe lying on the floor was picked up by a fair, slender finger. The exquisite and graceful figure getting off the bed steadied herself with one hand on the bed. She looked back at the sleeping man, who was frowning, as if encountering a world-class, unsolvable problem, instinctively lost in thought.
But she never worried, because she was powerful.
She withdrew her gaze and casually draped the bathrobe over herself. She walked barefoot on the wooden floor. With one hand, she pushed aside her long hair, which was pressed down by the bathrobe. With the other, she picked up the scattered drafts on the table.
After looking for a moment, her red lips curved slightly.
"Truly formidable. He figured out the energy structure of the secret realm's alternate space operation after just one visit..."
A very simple room, many books, the fragrance of books filling the room, drafts everywhere. But other than that, there was no mess. All daily necessities were tidied up neatly and cleanly.
But occasionally, one could also see this man's rare hobbies on the shelves.
This time, it wasn't knitting sweaters.
A painting.
Pale drawing paper, a lonely, fluttering butterfly. Only lonely black and white lines, no color.
Why?
Because of weakness, because of loneliness, because of... that withered vitality.
But it was still striving to flap its wings in a vast, white world.
You don't know where it wants to fly, but it hasn't stopped.
This was his true inner self.
However, he had just consented. Perhaps when he woke up, his memory would be fragmented? After all, he was a mortal, and so exhausted—did this person not want to live anymore?
Many people are actually like this: they agree in the moment, then regret it later.
After all, a man as cold and wise as him might look down on her for acting this way?
Although it was also an exchange of benefits, she still felt she had bullied him. Perhaps it was best to let him decide whether he remembered it or not. If he couldn't remember, then it would just be a beautiful night. She would then tacitly consider the deal done and unilaterally fulfill her part of the agreement.
She fell silent, then erased the marks on the draft she had intentionally left, restoring it to its original state.
Originally, she wouldn't have minded him knowing; it was just cooperation. It would even be more beneficial to both their plans.
But now, she had changed her mind.
She walked to his side, leaned down, and spoke in a low, hoarse voice.
"My actions were driven by necessity, not those of a virtuous person. I'm sorry. I didn't intend to involve you."
"May you achieve your wishes in the future."
Finally, she lowered her head and placed a light kiss on his forehead.
Like a dragonfly skimming the water's surface.
All the calculations, all the premeditation, had they not all been stirred by his talent? But tonight, all of it turned into an apology for a lonely butterfly.
The next day, rain poured down in torrents. Chen Xun woke up from a deep sleep. He had a bathrobe draped over him, its collar open, revealing his broad, fair chest.
Perhaps because he had slept too deeply, for the first time, he felt refreshed and invigorated. It seemed as if the whole world was different. But there was always an inexplicable emotion. Leaning against the headboard, he turned his head to look at the desolate room.
Papers on the floor shifted gently with the slight breeze. One even drifted over to the head of the bed.
He bent down, his long, elegant fingers picking it up. He happened to see his calculations for the Heavenly Spirit Clan's alternate dimension secret realm energy array. But for a moment, he was at a loss.
For the first time in his life, he felt a sense of bewilderment.
His mind felt somewhat shackled.
Vaguely, it seemed he had agreed to something, and had either lost or gained something.
What was it?
Was it some problem he couldn't solve last night?
