The First Pope - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Cynthia knew Olivia didn't like people focusing solely on her appearance, so after a bit of teasing, she tactfully changed the subject when she saw Olivia frown. She took a sip of nectar and remarked with a sigh, "The Elves' nectar is probably the most delicious thing on this continent."
Olivia walked to the table and sat down, saying coolly, "You haven't tried the strong liquor brewed by the Wolf Race. You can only conclude whether something is the most delicious on the Sitatul Continent after making a comparison."
Cynthia walked over and sat opposite Olivia, saying with a smile, "I don't like to drink."
Olivia glanced at her. Seeing that two-thirds of the nectar in her cup was already gone, she pushed the bottle at her side toward Cynthia.
Cynthia picked up the bottle and refilled her cup. A thought occurred to her, and she suddenly asked, "Doesn't the God Race have anything famous like the Elves' nectar or the Wolf Race's strong liquor?"
Since transmigrating, although she had successfully developed Light Fire, she still only had a partial understanding of the God Race.
And Sarah had been living as a fugitive since birth; her knowledge of the God Race was likely even less than Cynthia's.
The importance of one's people was self-evident for survival on this continent. Cynthia wasn't one to keep things to herself. Her first thought after developing the Light Fire spell was to find the other members of the God Race as soon as possible and teach them the incantations.
The reason the Elf Race and the Wolf Race could stand against the Vampires wasn't because of how powerful Her Majesty the Queen and their clan leader were, but because every member of their races possessed considerable strength.
"I'm not very clear on matters concerning the God Race either." Olivia's hand, resting on the table, gently rubbed the rough surface as she said in a low voice, "But during the era of the gods, the Goddess of Light once left behind a river filled with light for humanity."
"The water within it could cure all illnesses and prolong life. It was called 'Holy Water' by the humans."
"Oh?" Cynthia was intrigued. "Where is that river?"
"Near the Temple of Light." Olivia lowered her gaze slightly and sighed. "But after the gods withdrew from the Sitatul Continent, their temples sank underground. The Sitatul Continent is now controlled by the Vampires; only they know the exact location of the Goddess of Light's temple."
The Elf Race was too dependent on light. The Vampires had controlled the continent and the light had been gone for too long-so long that the Tree of Life of their race had developed problems. Olivia had left her territory to search for the Temple of Light. The God of the Ocean was a subordinate of the Goddess of Light, so she had come to the Slade Sea Region hoping to find clues in the Ocean God's temple. But unfortunately, she was too late; the temple had actually collapsed.
Although she hadn't yet found the reason for the temple's collapse, Olivia's intuition told her it was definitely related to the Vampires.
Although most of the Vampire clans had withdrawn from the Sitatul Continent, based on Olivia's understanding of the two remaining clans, they would not let the Sitatul Continent go.
If they didn't resist now, they might never get another chance.
The deeper Olivia thought, the more her mind drifted. When she came back to her senses and lifted her gaze, she saw Cynthia sitting opposite her, chin in hand, watching her with rapt attention.
Olivia frowned, her voice cool. "What are you looking at?"
Cynthia's lips curved slightly. She lowered her hand and said unhurriedly, "I was thinking... you've told me so much. Are you trying to get me to find the Temple of Light?"
The last time Olivia had spoken to her with such patience was to find out if she had the ability to use the Power of Light.
This person is too easy to see through, Cynthia thought, lowering her head slightly to hide the glint of amusement in her eyes.
"...Finding the Temple of Light would be more beneficial to your God Race." Olivia was slightly annoyed at having her thoughts exposed. "I only need the Holy Water."
The Tree of Life, which was tied to the continuation of her race's lineage, had a problem. Olivia was searching for a solution; otherwise, she wouldn't be paying so much attention to the God Race member before her.
However, this member of the God Race had indeed shown her some surprises.
"I can help you find the temple. The price is that the river will belong to the Elf Race." Olivia leaned forward, staring into Cynthia's eyes, her tone serious. "How about it?"
A legendary river filled with light in exchange for the help of an Elf Queen. Cynthia met Olivia's gaze for a moment, then lowered her eyes in thought before making a decision. "That sounds pretty good, but I'd like to add a condition."
"What condition?"
Cynthia slowly leaned back in her chair, a gentle smile on her face. "Before we look for the Temple of Light, help me gather the God Race."
Seeing Olivia's silence, she let out a low chuckle and coaxed, "The more of the God Race there are, the greater the chance of finding the Temple of Light, wouldn't you agree?"
"Besides, the Vampires certainly won't let us reclaim the Temple of Light so easily, will they?"
"There's a big difference between cooperating with one member of the God Race and cooperating with the entire God Race. What do you think, Her Majesty the Queen."
When Cynthia became serious, her tone completely lost its earlier frivolity, making one unconsciously want to trust her. Olivia's expression softened. After a moment of thought, she slowly nodded. "I can help you find your people, but I also hope you won't disappoint me."
"If the abilities of the entire God Race don't satisfy me, I will terminate our agreement at any time."
Seeing Olivia agree, Cynthia's smile deepened as she said softly, "Of course, you have that right."
Although it deviated slightly from her initial plan, the God Race member before her had done too many incredible things. So, Olivia wanted to see what other surprising things she could do.
This lifeless continent needed some "surprises."
After their two previous unpleasant partings, Cynthia hadn't expected that on their third time sitting here, her relationship with Olivia could actually grow a little closer. She held her cup, rubbing it for a moment. Seeing that Olivia showed no intention of sending her away, she took the initiative to start a topic, wanting to chat a bit. "Why was the Goddess of Light so good to humans, even creating a river of light to cure their illnesses?"
Olivia looked at Cynthia with astonishment. "You don't know that humans are a race created by the Goddess of Light?"
Cynthia was surprised. "Oh?"
It was truly the first time she had heard that humans were also a race created by the Goddess of Light. Then why were humans so weak?
Cynthia thought of the Witches and asked curiously, "Then which god created the Witches?"
The Witches' appearance was almost indistinguishable from that of humans.
"The Witches were once human." Compared to Cynthia, an outsider, Olivia had a much better understanding of the origins of the various races on this continent. "During the era of the gods, a human appeared who yearned for eternal life and pursued great power. He created Witchcraft on his own, recruited many followers, and passed down the magical power through his bloodline. This was the origin of the Tremere family of wizards."
"Later, the leader of the Tremere family betrayed humanity, and the Tremere clan splintered. The three branches that remained are the Witches of today." Olivia paused after speaking, frowning slightly. "...The bloodline of Witches contains not only the power of Witchcraft but also the Power of Darkness. The Power of Darkness corrupts the heart, and they are born with an aversion to light."
Olivia reminded Cynthia with a calm expression, "Among those Witches, someone is already dabbling in the Power of Darkness."
Cynthia thought of Camille, and her brow furrowed. "I will remind Chelsea and the others."
This was an internal matter for the Witches. All she could do was remind Chelsea again, and... be a little more cautious.
But since they were also a race created by the Goddess of Light, did humans have no abilities at all? Hadn't someone once created Witchcraft?
"Since they are also a race created by the Goddess of Light, is it possible that humans can also sense the Power of Light?" Cynthia raised her hand slightly, a white light flickering at her fingertips. She stared at Olivia and asked thoughtfully.
If it was really possible, then... a bold idea emerged in Cynthia's mind, and she was eager to try it.
In fact, long before meeting Cynthia, she had observed humans for a long time. After all, compared to the God Race, humans were easier to find.
But humans had always disappointed her greatly.
"I have never seen a human who could sense the Power of Light." Olivia paused, then continued, "But before the Tremere family appeared, no human could sense the power of Witchcraft or the Power of Darkness either."
If the system of Light Magic were already complete, Olivia would have suggested Cynthia find some humans to try it on. But now, she was clearly still in an exploratory phase.
Although Olivia didn't voice her suggestion, Cynthia had already arrived at the same thought. "In that case, it's very likely that humans can use the Power of Light just like the God Race."
Cynthia's eyes narrowed slightly, her delicate features made even more radiant by the smile playing on her lips. "Then I must go find someone to test it on. If it succeeds, it will be a miracle."
Even if it failed, it seemed there was nothing to lose.
Olivia wasn't surprised by Cynthia's decision. She watched Cynthia steadily for a moment, then slowly nodded. "If you succeed, it can indeed be called a miracle."
Cynthia smiled faintly and said softly, "This continent is in great need of such miracles."
The wizards succeeded, so there was no reason she should fail, right?
Once they started chatting, they lost track of time. By the time Olivia realized it, the sky had already grown dim. She stared at Cynthia with a strange expression, not expecting that when this God Race member was serious, interacting with her was actually quite comfortable.
Olivia's gaze made Cynthia raise a hand to touch her face, asking, "What's wrong?"
Olivia shook her head. She pointed at the dimming sky, signaling that it was time for Cynthia to leave.
Cynthia, still wanting more, drank the last of the nectar. Looking at the empty bottle, she belatedly realized that after talking for so long, Olivia hadn't drunk any nectar at all. Cynthia asked in surprise, "Aren't you drinking any?"
Olivia looked at her in silence.
Seeing the somewhat annoyed look in Olivia's eyes, Cynthia suddenly understood. She chuckled lightly, took Olivia's cup out of her Space Gem, and said with a smile, "I found this in the woods a few days ago. I wonder if this is the cup Her Majesty the Queen lost?"
Olivia glanced at her and said nonchalantly, "You're very lucky. So many Elves couldn't find it."
As she spoke, she reached for the cup. Her fingers accidentally brushed against the back of Cynthia's hand. The warm touch made her fingertips curl slightly. She frowned, about to take the cup back, when something suddenly flashed through her mind. Her expression stiffened for a moment, and then her face darkened.
Olivia's expression changed so quickly. Cynthia had been staring into her eyes, lost in thought, when she was suddenly met with a cold glare. Cynthia froze, looking at her in confusion.
Olivia snatched the cup, her face grim, and questioned through gritted teeth, "What are you thinking?"
"Hm?" Cynthia looked completely baffled. "What?"
Seeing Olivia staring at her hand, she thought Olivia had found out about her ability to probe memories. She gave a dry cough and explained, "I didn't do it on purpose. It's a talent of the God Race."
Being glared at by Olivia made Cynthia temporarily forget how to think, reacting purely on instinct. As a result, she forgot that she had never told Olivia about this, so how could Olivia possibly know what the God Race's talents were?
Cynthia's answer sounded more like she had a guilty conscience. Olivia closed her eyes, and the palm resting on the table lifted slightly. A hurricane materialized out of thin air, swept up Cynthia, and threw her down.
Only after throwing the silver-haired God Race member down did Olivia open her eyes. She slammed her right fist on the table, a faint blush on her cheeks, and said, vexed, "...Frivolous."
All that seriousness was fake. This God Race member's mind was filled with nothing but frivolous thoughts!
