Returning - Chapter 8
Chapter 8: Prey
"I'll be in Donghai in three hours. You have to come pick me up at the airport, right?"
A black backless dress, red high heels, an enchanting figure and bold stride, paired with a seductively alluring voice—Zhao Yu immediately drew quite a bit of attention the moment she stepped into the VIP lounge.
She acted as if she didn't notice, continuing her phone call: "Don't even mention it. I checked out the entire wedding venue, and there wasn't a single one who caught my eye…"
Before she finished speaking, she suddenly raised the corner of her lips, hung up the phone, and strode directly toward the sofa directly across from her.
The look in her eyes—that sudden discovery of prey—was far too blatant. Anyone in the lounge could tell exactly what she was about to do. So as she approached, the young man in front immediately stood to block her path: "Sorry, my boss is working."
Such a practiced rebuff clearly showed his boss was quite accustomed to being hit on.
"Is that so?" Zhao Yu glanced down at the man still focused intently on his laptop. A soft smile graced her lips as she slowly leaned closer to the secretary blocking her way. "But I'm not here for your boss. I'm here for you."
Fair, slender fingers rested on his shoulder, rubbing with ambiguous intent. A faint perfume scent wafted to his nose, and warm breath sprayed against his face. The young male secretary, utterly unaccustomed to such teasing, instantly reddened and stumbled back a step in alarm, stammering, "I… I don't know you."
All that skill at deflecting women for his boss, yet in his own situation, he's panicking this badly.
Zhao Yu chuckled quietly, and once again lowered her gaze to look at the seated man.
Sure enough, thanks to his secretary's spectacular failure on the spot, the man finally deigned to glance up at her.
Even though he carried an air of gentle refinement and cultured elegance, this single glance clearly conveyed cold indifference and aloofness.
Zhao Yu didn't mind at all. She pulled a business card from her clutch, bent down, and slowly tucked it into the man's suit pocket. Her red lips parted slightly: "Let's get acquainted?"
With her movement, an ample expanse of cleavage revealed itself above her slip dress. The man inevitably glanced at it, then lifted his gaze to meet hers, a faint smile touching his lips: "Not interested."
"My interest is all that matters." Zhao Yu looked straight at him. Only when the card between her two fingers had fully disappeared into his pocket did she slowly straighten up and walk toward the secretary, who had just barely composed himself. "How about… exchanging numbers?"
The secretary shook his head vigorously. Before his words of refusal could even leave his mouth, Zhao Yu pressed her entire body close again, her red lips nearing his chin as her palm covered his hand, slowly sliding out the phone he was gripping.
Such close contact, and from a woman so sultry and captivating—the male secretary was far too flustered from being toyed with to know how to resist. Zhao Yu not only successfully took his phone but also grabbed his finger to unlock it.
She added herself on WeChat, dialed her own number, and then, smiling, handed the phone back to him: "Thank you. If your boss fires you, remember to call me. Perhaps I could even go to your boss and beg for leniency on your behalf."
Not until Zhao Yu, brimming with smug satisfaction, sashayed her hips over to sit in an empty seat on the other side did the secretary, still in a terrified daze, look at his boss. His expression was a mixture of terror, innocence, and grievance.
The man cast his secretary an indifferent glance, said nothing, and continued staring at the report on his laptop.
Seated on the other end, Zhao Yu still watched the man's back like prey.
And indeed, he was her prey. Xu Chengyan, current CEO of Yicheng Technology, Zhuang Yiqing's fiancé.
Yesterday, she'd taken a day off under the pretense of attending a friend's wedding, flying here to Beicheng specifically for this man.
But unlike Xue Zi'ang, this man didn't have a white moonlight in his heart. Seducing him posed a significant challenge.
During boarding, Zhao Yu "coincidentally" discovered Xu Chengyan was on the same flight.
"What a coincidence! I checked your WeChat. Your name is Lu Bin, right?"
Facing her blatantly, utterly delighted expression, Lu Bin's entire face spelled out utter speechlessness: "You… you're on this flight too?"
"That's right. And it seems not only the same flight, but also the same first-class cabin. This is what they call fate."
As she said this, Zhao Yu's gaze flicked toward Xu Chengyan beside Lu Bin, but the man remained expressionless, not even glancing her way.
"Secretary Lu, your seat is right next to your boss, isn't it? Can I switch with you?"
Meeting her amorous, tender gaze, Lu Bin felt his scalp tingle. He quickly shook his head. "N-No, it's not."
To his credit, he wasn't lying. His seat was across the aisle from his boss, while the person next to Xu Chengyan was an elderly man over sixty.
Zhao Yu went up to the old man, pouting and playing cute: "Grandpa, could I switch seats with you? I want to sit next to my husband. He fought with me and is giving me the silent treatment. I need to coax him back."
The old man looked at the silent Xu Chengyan, immediately put on a knowing expression, and laughed heartily as he stood to switch seats. He even specifically patted Xu Chengyan on the shoulder and said meaningfully, "Young man, a man should be magnanimous. Don't stay angry with your wife."
Once Zhao Yu sat down with a proud expression, Xu Chengyan gave her a cold look: "I told you, I'm not interested."
"And I told you, I'm interested in you." Zhao Yu pointed at Lu Bin across the aisle. "If you find me annoying, you can switch seats with your secretary."
Xu Chengyan didn't move, simply stating, "I'm engaged."
"Only engaged, not married. Besides, I'm not trying to steal anyone from your fiancée." Zhao Yu leaned in close with an ambiguous smile. "After all, I just crave your body."
The secretary on the side almost choked on his own saliva upon hearing this, but just as he curiously looked up at Zhao Yu, she even sent him a flirtatious wink from across the aisle.
He'd seen plenty of women proactively hitting on his boss, but someone who flirted with the secretary at the same time—this was the first.
For the remainder of the flight, Zhao Yu behaved herself, completely unlike the promiscuous manner she had displayed earlier.
Watching a movie, drinking red wine, admiring the scenery, resting her eyes for a nap… she seemed to do everything she possibly could, except once again proactively flirt with Xu Chengyan.
It was, instead, Xu Chengyan—guarded against her—who couldn't even fall asleep, keeping himself diligently occupied reading a book. Only when he heard her breathing become even did he turn his head for a glance, confirming she was indeed asleep.
When Zhao Yu awoke from her dream, the plane had already landed.
Xu Chengyan was still reading that same book. She glanced at the page he was on and suddenly chuckled quietly.
"'To punish the wicked is God's business. We should learn to forgive.' Don't you find that absurd?"
Hearing her recite the exact line he had just finished reading, Xu Chengyan couldn't help but lift his head to look at her. Yet what he saw was a face full of scorn, her eyes devoid of the earlier passion and wantonness.
Perhaps because he had been drawn into the book's mood, looking at her now, he instead felt a faint trace of melancholy emanating from her.
Before he could speak, Zhao Yu had already leaned over, once again tucking her business card into his suit pocket. "If you're going to throw this away again, remember to have your secretary do it. There's a lip print on it. I'd hate to dirty your hands."
Xu Chengyan's gaze involuntarily shifted to her lips. They were still a brilliant shade, rosy and enticing.
Zhao Yu laughed softly, her hand sliding from his pocket to his chest, slowly pulling out his tie. She brought it to her lips and pressed a gentle kiss. "I misspoke. The lip print… is here. You'd better… throw this away too."
Watching her departing figure, Lu Bin didn't dare let out a single breath. He approached his boss nervously, extending his hand: "President Xu, I'll… help you throw it away."
Xu Chengyan lowered his head, looking at the unmistakable red stain on the grey, subtly patterned tie. But he didn't remove the tie, merely taking the business card from his pocket.
Before handing it to Lu Bin, he cast a downward glance at it.
Huacan Group, Zhao Yu.
