VAP - Chapter 135
Chapter 135: Qi Jiu
It was nine o’clock at night.
In a dark, empty alley, a stray cat walked along the base of a wall, stopping and starting, occasionally flicking its tail as it lifted its head to sniff a small clump of wildflowers growing bravely from a crack.
Suddenly, it froze, its head whipping alertly toward the depths of the alley.
After a brief silence, the sound of suitcase wheels rolling on the ground echoed from that direction, accompanied by light footsteps that seemed particularly jarring in the quiet alley.
The cat didn't hesitate. It turned and fled, vanishing from sight in an instant.
The rolling sound slowly reached the alley's entrance. Yue Du, dragging the suitcase she had brought when she left her original world, had half her face illuminated by the dim yellow light of a streetlamp.
She glanced down at her attire, confirming there was nothing out of place for her native world, before heading in the direction of home.
Yue Du had spent twelve years in the Spiral Star System small world.
Based on the relative flow of time, twelve days should have passed in her original world. That wasn't a long time—when she used to follow artists to film sets, being gone for two months was the norm.
But this time, with the threat from that bastard Ji Chenghui, Yue Du couldn't feel as relieved as she used to.
She focused her mind. A stream of data, invisible to ordinary people, extended out, connecting to the internet to search for relevant information. In less than a second, she found something.
The Ji family had fallen.
This news was circulating in various corners of the internet, but abnormally, it hadn't caused a huge stir, only making a small splash. The stories about the process of their downfall were varied and difficult to verify.
Yue Du was a little surprised.
Could it be that the criminal evidence she had given to Hao Hao before she left had worked?
That didn't make sense either. No matter how extensive Tang Xin's connections were, it would be impossible to rally other families and bring Ji's real estate empire to its knees in just twelve days, unless the Ji family had an incredibly powerful enemy.
But if such an enemy existed, the Ji family should have fallen long ago.
Yue Du pondered for a moment, feeling that something was off, a strange premonition taking hold.
She quickened her pace home. As she stood in the elevator watching the floor numbers change, she felt both her left and right eyelids twitching.
Her powerful hearing allowed her to hear voices and background music coming from her apartment while still in the elevator. It sounded like a TV show was playing, which helped Yue Du relax considerably.
If Yue Hao could still leisurely watch TV, she probably hadn't been affected much.
However, the most wondrous thing about life is that you never know what will happen in the next second.
Yue Du was a living example. The moment she opened the door, her eyes met with the person half-reclining on the sofa diagonally in front of her.
Slightly curled long black hair, a simple white dress, a face of extreme, dazzling beauty, yet a languid posture.
Qi Jiu smiled at her and sat up straight on the sofa.
“Welcome back, my system.”
Yue Du paused in the entryway and said in a low voice, “Ah Jiu.”
Qi Jiu’s smile deepened. She walked over lightly and quickly, her steps as graceful as a dance.
Finally, she stopped in front of Yue Du.
This time, the distance between them was very close. Qi Jiu had already crossed the safe line of interpersonal interaction, but Yue Du didn't retreat.
For a few seconds, neither of them spoke again. Dark black eyes and deep amber eyes gazed at each other quietly, affection flowing in their depths.
This atmosphere was broken by Yue Hao.
Accompanied by the patter of slippers on the floor, Yue Hao ran over from the direction of the kitchen, holding a small spatula.
She said cheerfully, “Sis, you’re back so soon.”
Yue Du returned to her senses. “It’s been twelve days. How is that soon?”
“I was actually prepared for you to be gone for months without a word,” Yue Hao said honestly. “It hasn’t even been half a month. What could your esper organization even get done?”
Yue Du repeated blankly, “Esper organization…”
Yue Hao said understandingly, “It’s fine, you don’t have to explain. I get it. I definitely won’t ask about these secrets, don’t worry.”
After speaking, she even made a zipping motion across her lips.
“…” Yue Du turned to look at Qi Jiu.
Before she left, Yue Hao had just been letting her imagination run wild with random guesses. Now, she was convinced of the existence of a so-called esper organization.
Yue Du wouldn't believe it if Qi Jiu hadn't added fuel to Yue Hao's imaginative fire.
Qi Jiu blinked at her with an innocent expression.
Yue Du understood. She turned back to Yue Hao and asked in a normal tone, “How have you been getting along with her during this time?”
Yue Hao replied obediently, “We’ve been getting along great. Sister Qi is a really good person. She even saved me once.”
Yue Du’s gaze sharpened. “Did Ji Chenghui give you trouble?”
Yue Hao: “He played dirty! Ahem, but you had the foresight, Sis. Thanks to Sister Qi, I would have been in big trouble otherwise.”
Yue Du breathed a sigh of relief. She could roughly guess what Qi Jiu had told her sweet, naive sister—probably something along the lines of “Your sister hired me to be your bodyguard,” “We work together in a secret esper organization,” and “It’s not good to know too much.”
Just then, Yue Hao suddenly remembered something and let out a cry, “My pancakes!”
With that, she turned and dashed back toward the kitchen.
Only the two adults, colleagues in the esper organization, were left in the entryway, looking at each other.
Yue Du smiled slightly, bending down to change into her slippers while saying in a low voice, “So, tell me. What happened?”
Qi Jiu’s beautiful eyes curved slightly into the familiar, lazy smile Yue Du knew so well. Her voice was deliberately lowered, carrying a hint of husky magnetism.
“I will be with you. Those were my words.”
The Word Spirit ability manifested as making spoken words come true. The words she uttered from her heart to her lips were prophecies that would inevitably be fulfilled.
According to Qi Jiu, she had been sleeping ever since leaving her small world, much like a hibernating animal.
She floated peacefully in an indescribable void, occasionally regaining a sliver of consciousness before quickly sinking back into a deep, night-like slumber.
Time had lost all meaning. The flow of time in this strange space probably couldn't be simply converted to outside time, but it likely hadn't been long, because Qi Jiu's ordinary human body hadn't changed. Therefore, the duration couldn't have exceeded two years.
Afterward, Qi Jiu sensed it—or rather, Qi Jiu's ability sensed Yue Du's presence. She seemed to have suddenly appeared in a certain small world, like a bright lamp in the endless darkness, providing the coordinates for the fulfillment of “I will be with you.”
“When I returned to normal, I was here,” Qi Jiu said cheerfully. “As soon as I arrived, I discovered traces of you in this world, so I knew I hadn't come to the wrong place.”
Yue Du: “Before that, you slept for a long time.”
Qi Jiu shrugged. “It was probably the price for fulfilling the Word Spirit.”
Compared to the minor uses of her Word Spirit before, crossing world barriers and seeking a single spatial coordinate among countless small worlds was clearly an extremely energy-consuming command.
Yue Du thought for a moment and asked a few more questions, all of which Qi Jiu answered. When it came to how she had spun tales for Yue Hao, Qi Jiu commented without reservation, “Your sister is too easy to fool. She believes whatever you tell her.”
Yue Du said, “You showed her the effects of your Word Spirit, didn't you?”
Qi Jiu smiled without speaking.
Yue Du mourned for her sister in silence.
Actually, putting herself in her sister's shoes, if her past self had seen a woman with a unique aura and stunning beauty display an esper ability and claim to be a member of a national esper organization, she probably would have believed it too.
After all, who didn't have a wild imagination?
However, speaking of Word Spirit…
“This world is developing along a technological path. There shouldn't be anything related to esper abilities. Hasn't your Word Spirit been restricted?”
Thinking about this person's bug-like ability—wishes coming true, destroying the world with a single sentence!
Yue Du had experienced four worlds so far, and the first one had been the most laid-back. The mission with Qi Jiu required no brainpower from her at all. After all, it only took a word from the host. If one word wasn't enough, then two.
Qi Jiu pouted. “It has. Otherwise, I would have teleported to your side immediately instead of being so slow. Now, the Word Spirit can only be used within my line of sight, and it can't directly kill people.”
However, if she wanted to kill someone, she didn't have to give a direct order. Qi Jiu could list a thousand ways to indirectly take a life using her Word Spirit—
Ji Chenghui was currently the first test subject.
Yue Du had been puzzled by the Ji family's bizarre decline, but when she saw Qi Jiu here, she knew that all other speculations were meaningless.
Qi Jiu continued, “There are benefits, too. I don't have to speak so rigidly—for example, like this.”
The two were now sitting on the sofa. Qi Jiu looked at the fruit platter on the coffee table in front of them and said softly, “Come.”
An orange flew over, peeling itself as it moved. By the time it landed in Qi Jiu's palm, even the white pith had been completely removed.
Yue Du: “…So convenient.”
Qi Jiu: “Indeed.”
She brought a slice of orange to Yue Du's lips. The soft pulp pressed against her even softer lower lip, rubbing left and right. “This orange is quite sweet. Want to try?”
Yue Du opened her mouth and took it, biting down and feeling the sweet juice coat her taste buds. The orange had almost no sourness.
But Qi Jiu didn't pull her hand back. Her fingertips rested against Yue Du's lower lip, slowly caressing it, her gaze deep and unreadable.
After a long moment, she leaned forward. “You've been asking me questions. Now it's my turn. First question—”
“You and ‘me’ got together, right?”
It was more of a statement than a question.
Yue Du said, “Yes.”
Yue Du really didn't know how to answer, or in what tone to answer.
Although to others, the hosts were completely different people who only shared a similar appearance, to Yue Du, the hosts from different small worlds were all “her.”
It was like different facets of a single person, all one in essence.
Who would only like their girlfriend's cool and bewitching side or her battle-crazed side, but not her homebody (?) side? In any case, Yue Du loved them all.
However, she had once explicitly rejected Qi Jiu. Although she had feelings for her, it was a decision based on reason… which made this very awkward.
As Yue Du was trying to find the right words to express her thoughts, Qi Jiu suddenly raised a hand to cup the back of her neck and whispered in her ear, “So, I can kiss you now, right?”
Another affirmative question.
Yue Du: “…Mhm.”
A long-absent, brilliant red blush gradually spread from the base of her ears.
Qi Jiu gently but irresistibly held her chin and kissed her. The sweet scent of orange filled the space between their lips and teeth.
When Yue Hao walked from the kitchen to the living room carrying a plate of pancakes, this was the scene she saw.
Although Yue Hao had a simple, quirky personality and was prone to being easily startled, she proved to be quite tactful in this situation. She silently put down the tray and went back to the kitchen to get the sauce.
She dawdled in the kitchen for a while, then peeked her head out again. The two were still kissing.
What a headache, Yue Hao thought, then washed a small apple for herself and squatted by the kitchen door to eat it.
When she finished eating and went out to look again, it was finally over.
Yue Du's face was still flushed. She glanced at Yue Hao, about to ask what she was doing peeking around the doorway, but then she thought about the context in which her silly sister had been peeking… In the end, Yue Du decided not to ask, pretending she hadn't noticed.
Yue Hao sat on another sofa and asked awkwardly, “Sis, is this the girlfriend you mentioned?”
Qi Jiu raised an eyebrow.
Yue Du: “Yes. We met while on a mission.”
Yue Hao naturally assumed this “mission” was for the secret national esper organization and didn't press further. She turned awkwardly to Qi Jiu. “Why didn't you tell me before?”
Qi Jiu lied through her teeth. “I was waiting for your sister to tell you, to give you some time to prepare mentally.”
Yue Hao looked at her in disbelief. The scene from just now flashed through her mind, and she felt completely bewildered.
I wasn't prepared at all!
It would have been better if you had told me beforehand!
After composing herself, Yue Hao said, “So what should I call you? Brother-in-law? Or sister-in-law?”
Yue Du didn't know whether to laugh or cry. “What's all this nonsense? Just call her sister like I do.”
Qi Jiu said with a grin, “Be good, call me big sister, and I'll give you a red envelope.”
Yue Hao: “…”
So annoying!
It was strange. Before, Yue Hao had a very good impression of Qi Jiu. As lackadaisical as Qi Jiu was, she was also genuinely reliable. She was strong and beautiful; it was hard to dislike her.
But after witnessing the scene just now, Yue Hao's attitude had undergone a subtle change.
She's so scheming. Before her sister came back, Qi Jiu wasn't cold, but she was a bit aloof and didn't seem to want to talk much.
Now that her sister was back, who was this person with the radiant smile? A national-level performance artist of face-changing?!
Yue Du cleared her throat. “Alright, if we keep talking, the pancakes will get cold.”
Yue Hao said seriously, “The most important thing right now isn't the pancakes—”
Yue Du: “They'll get hard when they're cold. They won't be crispy, and they won't taste good.”
Yue Hao: “Then let's eat the pancakes first.”
The pancakes were made with egg, cut into rectangular pieces. One side was slightly browned, but they looked delicious—golden, crispy, and enticingly fragrant.
Next to them were strips of beef, pork floss, lettuce, and shredded cucumber, so you could wrap whatever you wanted.
Qi Jiu first made a wrap for Yue Du, without lettuce, and handed it to her with a smile.
Yue Du: “You're so fast. Wait a second… ah, done.”
She also passed over the pancake she had just wrapped, without cucumber.
Yue Hao felt like she had just swallowed a huge mouthful of public display of affection.
After they finished the crispy pancakes, Yue Hao adopted a serious posture and asked, “Sis, how long have you two been dating?”
She quickly added, “Of course, if it involves state secrets, just pretend I didn't ask.”
Yue Du and Qi Jiu exchanged a look.
“A little over half a year,” she fabricated.
She couldn't very well say over thirty years, or it would sound like they had dated in a past life.
Yue Hao, on the other hand, thought about how her sister had gone to a film set half a year ago and was gone for three months. Thinking back now, going to a film set was just a cover; she was clearly on a secret mission.
What about the people she was usually close to? The others, Sister Yilan, Sister Tang Xin… Yue Hao's mind reeled with the terrifying implications. The entertainment industry was truly a deep and murky business.
Yue Hao asked a few more questions, like how long they had known each other, as serious as a family elder.
Yue Du answered them one by one, or rather, made up answers one by one, until she finally said helplessly, “Do you want to ask for her household registration too?”
Only then did Yue Hao sheepishly stop.
Qi Jiu, who had been spouting nonsense along with her, now said with a straight face, “People in our line of work need to have a bit of mystery.”
Yue Hao: “Oh.”
Mystery, my foot.
You were the one talking the most.
Yue Hao's attitude toward Qi Jiu was now rather peculiar. It was far from dislike, but for some reason, she just felt the urge to poke at her.
In truth, she had seen how good Qi Jiu was to Yue Du.
Yue Hao was gratified that her sister finally had someone to accompany her and was happy for her, but at the same time, she felt a sense of loss, as if her sister had been stolen away. Under these conflicting emotions, she could no longer worshipfully call her “Sister Qi.”
She would eventually call her sister, but for the time being, Yue Hao couldn't bring herself to say it.
Yue Du saw her sister's petty emotions clearly and couldn't help but chuckle.
The three of them chatted… they didn't get to chat for long.
Before it was even ten-thirty, Qi Jiu, on the grounds of “can't stay up late, need my beauty sleep, and don't you have an early class tomorrow, little one?” asked Yue Hao to go back to her room to sleep.
As Yue Hao walked to her room, she said reluctantly, “What modern youth goes to bed this early? Even with an early class, it's not okay.”
Qi Jiu tilted her head lazily, wrapping an arm around her system's shoulder. “Then Xiao Du and I will go to bed first. You should rest early too.”
Yue Hao puffed up her cheeks and returned to her room, looking back every three steps.
Finally alone, Qi Jiu's entire demeanor changed. If emotions could materialize as a background, she would definitely be surrounded by floating rose petals.
Yue Du let out a mental “oho.”
This was the love-struck host she was familiar with, alright.
The two went back to Yue Du's room.
Yue Du looked around and found that the room's furnishings were exactly as she had left them. Clearly, no one had stayed here in her absence.
She was a little surprised.
“I thought you would have stayed in my room.”
Qi Jiu sighed. “I couldn't do that, though I really wanted to. You see, what if the other ‘me’s’ were too useless and failed to win you over? Wouldn't I be losing points by presumptuously staying in your room?”
Yue Du was taken aback, feeling her heart being touched once again.
“Did you think I wouldn't get together with you?”
Qi Jiu replied without thinking, “How could that be? If even I can't do it, you'd probably be single for life.”
Yue Du laughed. “Then why are you being so cautious?”
She could already feel the rhythm of her heartbeat quicken, and when she heard Qi Jiu's response, her heart lost control completely.
“I can't help it,” Qi Jiu said in a tone like a sigh. “When it comes to you, I always feel insecure.”
They shared another kiss.
The atmosphere shifted from tender to fervent and restless. All it took was a single kiss. This time, the scent lingering between them was that of rose-flavored mouthwash, its coolness only serving to heighten the stimulation.
A button was undone. Yue Du gasped, “Let's shower first…”
Qi Jiu's voice was a little deep. “Together.”
Yue Du's slightly dazed mind, for some reason, thought about how lazy Qi Jiu was. Perhaps she would be too lazy to move, which meant she should probably prepare herself?
But as it turned out, Qi Jiu's laziness was situational.
Procrastination was never applied to people or things she liked. Being too lazy to move didn't mean she wouldn't move.
The next day, when Yue Hao went to her morning class, she didn't see either of her sisters. She first checked the guest room, which was empty.
Yue Hao seemed to understand something. She gritted her teeth as she made breakfast for herself, then ate it alone. By the time she was about to leave for class, there was still no movement from the other side.
Yue Hao scribbled a note, weighed it down on the dining table with the edge of a bowl, and left for class.
The two who had been up late fooling around didn't get up until almost ten. To be precise, it was after ten, because they had another round before even getting out of bed.
It was summer now, and Yue Du didn't have any high-collared clothes, so she thought about dabbing some foundation on her neck to cover things up.
Qi Jiu: “You're going out?”
Her expression screamed, Let's not go out and just be homebodies.
Yue Du said, “I'm not going out, but Hao Hao will be back soon. What would it look like if she saw this—you should put some on too.”
Qi Jiu: “Don't put it on yet.”
She grabbed Yue Du's hand, which was holding the powder puff, and lowered her head, lightly kissing each of the conspicuous red marks on Yue Du's neck and silently uttering, “Disappear.”
The marks all vanished.
Qi Jiu looked a little regretful. She casually tapped her own neck, removing the marks there as well.
Yue Du once again marveled, “So convenient.”
Qi Jiu followed up, “Yeah, sigh.”
Her expression was still full of regret.
While Yue Hao was out, Yue Du briefly told Qi Jiu about her experiences over the years and some of her own speculations.
When she mentioned the theory about the Tyrant's Seven Sins, Qi Jiu laughed as if she found it very interesting. “I'm Sloth?”
Yue Du: “Obviously.”
Qi Jiu: “No wonder. So being lazy isn't my fault, it's just my nature. That's what you mean, right?”
Yue Du: “…Well. I don't think you can blame it all on that.”
Nai Yin didn't fall in love at first sight, Yun Yijiu wasn't arrogant, and Sheng Xuejiu wasn't angry all the time. The Tyrant's Seven Sins manifested differently in them.
Only with Qi Jiu was sloth truly just laziness—all-natural, no additives, and unedited.
Qi Jiu seemed not to hear and continued, “Speaking of which, was it Lust that moved you?”
The question sounded a bit strange to Yue Du, but she couldn't say no, so she just said, “Yes.”
Qi Jiu: “I knew it.”
A fighting spirit ignited in her salted-fish eyes.
Yue Du: “—Calm down.”
Qi Jiu: “No. ‘I’ had bonus talent points, but I don't. It seems only through diligent study and hard practice can I move you.”
Yue Du wanted to say that she had already been moved, but before she could get the words out, she was pulled into a “practice session.”
Afterward, Qi Jiu, with a satisfied smile, used her Word Spirit again.
Their life together as lovers was as natural as it had been in any other world, as if they had already spent thousands of years together, yet it paradoxically possessed the passion of new lovers.
In any case, Yue Hao had a deep appreciation for this.
—I should be under the car, not in it.
—Someone help me kick over this bowl of dog food!
…You've only been dating for half a year? Are you sure you haven't been living together for two or three years?
Qi Jiu's response to this was: “What does the length of a relationship prove? You don't know how many years Xiao Du and I have been partners. Before we became lovers, we were sisters who went through life and death together many times. We know each other better than anyone else in the world.”
She spoke with great emotion, even pointing to a rather faint mark on her leg and falsely claiming it was a scar left from a burn by some fire-type esper long ago, which made it seem particularly real.
Yue Du: “…” If she hadn't been the one to put it there last night, she might have almost believed it.
Yue Hao was simple-minded. She had never seen such a mark, nor had she ever seen the fire of a fire-type esper, so she didn't doubt it in the slightest.
Her expression even became much more respectful.
Yue Du had a feeling that if this continued, Qi Jiu could probably fabricate an entire esper organization system from scratch, and then tell a story about clashing with foreign esper forces, which would surely leave Yue Hao in awe.
Afterward, Yue Hao gave her sister a handbag. According to her, she had bought it a long time ago but had forgotten about it yesterday due to the shock.
The bag wasn't extremely expensive, but it was from a relatively famous luxury brand. As a part-time model who had already gained some fame, and with a gold-medal agent sister like Yue Du, her personal savings were much more substantial than most of her peers.
Yue Hao said it was a belated Children's Day gift.
However, as an adult who had been married several times and was actually over fifty years old, Yue Du felt too embarrassed to accept it.
So Yue Hao said, “Then just consider it an early birthday present.”
Yue Du's birthday was still about three months away, so this was quite a bit early, but Yue Hao insisted, so she accepted it.
That day, the first thing Qi Jiu did upon entering the room was to lock the innocent bag in the closet and shut the door firmly.
“Luckily, it was a bag and not a necklace, bracelet, or something similar. Otherwise, I might not have been able to allow them to stay on your body.”
These pieces of jewelry always had a special meaning, at least in Qi Jiu's eyes. Collars, bracelets, anklets, rings—when worn, they were like claiming a person, leaving a mark, as if declaring one's influence over the wearer.
Qi Jiu wanted to do this to Yue Du, and she hoped Yue Du would do the same to her.
So, since Yue Hao had given her a bag, Qi Jiu could accept Yue Du carrying it.
But if it had been that kind of jewelry… sorry, it would have to be locked away.
As she said this, her gaze drifted darkly to the metal square chain below Yue Du's collarbone, the one inlaid with the core of the Silent Watcher.
Yue Du explained its origin. When Qi Jiu learned that Yue Du had put it on herself, rather than receiving it as a gift, she seemed almost disappointed that her other self hadn't seized the opportunity.
“‘I’ didn't even give you a chain?”
Qi Jiu was dissatisfied, yet also felt a kind of joy, like she had found a treasure someone else had missed. She immediately found a piece of beautifully colored metal, used her Word Spirit to craft a necklace, and transferred the core of Yue Du's Silent Watcher onto it.
“Don't take it off. You have to wear it always,” Qi Jiu said.
Yue Du nodded, her hand unconsciously stroking it. Her fingertips and the skin of her neck both felt the coolness of the metal, which was soon warmed by her body heat.
In her original world, where there were no missions to complete and no dangers, time passed incredibly quickly.
Yue Du didn't have to work now, so she spent her days at home with Qi Jiu, being two salted fish in love.
At first, Yue Hao didn't think anything was wrong, but later she grew a little worried and started subtly asking if the esper organization paid a salary.
Of course, to the two of them, her subtle inquiries were no different from asking directly.
Qi Jiu said with great seriousness, “We don't call it a salary, we call it a commendation. If you do well, you can get several million for one mission.”
When Yue Du wasn't around, Yue Hao asked nervously, “With so much money, are the missions especially dangerous?”
Qi Jiu: “Nah, not dangerous. It's just that only espers can do them, so talent is scarce.”
Yue Hao: “…But you said you were burned by a fire-type esper before.”
Qi Jiu paused.
She hadn't even remembered what bizarre setting she had made up before. Now that she recalled it, she said without a change in expression, “That was an accident, which is why my leg was injured. If it were truly dangerous, they would have aimed for a vital spot.”
“Oh, I see.” Yue Hao was fooled once again.
Yue Du, who was in the bedroom, heard the entire conversation between the two with her system's powerful hearing and almost burst out laughing.
The days of being a salted fish had to come to an end. Staying in her original world consumed points, and Yue Du had to save enough for the next small world's mission.
Therefore, after a month and a half, Yue Du prepared to return to the system space.
The day before she left her original world, she took Qi Jiu and Yue Hao to a cemetery on the outskirts of the city.
This was the final resting place of her and Yue Hao's mother.
Yue Du offered a bouquet of carnations and a bouquet of stargazer lilies, the latter being Ms. Ling's favorite flower.
Yue Du wiped the dust from the tombstone.
She didn't speak, but she had already said a lot in her heart. Qi Jiu stood behind her, her expression solemn, the usual hint of improper laziness gone.
She bowed deeply to the black and white photograph on the tombstone, then offered a faint smile.
If there were any lingering attachments in the great beyond, they would surely feel gratified at this moment.
This time, when Yue Du left dragging her suitcase, there were two people seeing her off.
The excuse was still a secret mission.
A seed of suspicion sprouted in Yue Hao. She said to Qi Jiu, “You don't have to go? Aren't you and my sister partners?”
A sadness that was subtle but still perceptible appeared in Qi Jiu's eyes. “Don't ask. These things are decided by our superiors. One day, I will fight alongside Xiao Du again.”
Yue Hao's imagination now had new material to work with.
Yue Du shook her head. Just as she was about to leave, Qi Jiu suddenly reached out and pulled her over, placing a kiss on her earlobe, lips, and fingertips respectively.
She said nothing.
Yue Du suddenly had a strange feeling.
She was about to leave her lover, to go and meet her lover.
—Even though she knew perfectly well in her heart that they were all her, she still felt an undeniable sense of dislocation.
