CA – Chapter 115

Chapter 115

Three Cardinals, along with several bishops, simultaneously used light magic to attack the Blood Domain. The domain didn't last long before it completely shattered, and the vampires within were forced into the open, exposed to the light magic. Golden flames enveloped them.

The Holy See's forces were in a very safe position, and it wouldn't be easy to break their formation. Evan glanced in the direction of Tang Qiu and her group, then decisively raised his hand to cast another Blood Domain, shielding his beleaguered subordinates from the encroaching light flames.

The ground beneath their feet trembled from the bombardment of light magic. Evan's face was grim as the Blood Domain shattered once more under a new wave of attacks.

If Evan were facing these Cardinals alone, he wouldn't be in such a passive position. But he had to consider the safety of his vampire subordinates, so he couldn't easily leave to engage the Holy See's forces in close combat.

If he left, only a tenth of his subordinates would survive the assault of light magic. But if he didn't leave, he would just continue to be suppressed by the Holy See as he was now.

I can't enter the Divine Ruins with only a pitiful few people by my side, Evan thought, gritting his teeth and forcing out two words, "Retreat."

Eric and Delia led the other vampires away from the area. Delphine, who had been watching the situation closely, saw Evan's intention to withdraw. Her light green eyes flickered, and she reached a hand behind her. A longbow was placed in her grasp.

Delphine drew the bowstring to its limit, the corners of her mouth curling into a slight arc. "I'll help you vampires retreat a little faster," she said in a lighthearted tone.

A jade-green arrow shot through the golden light like a bolt of lightning, flying toward the vampires' position.

Coincidentally, a pitch-black arrow flew from another direction, its destination the same as the green one.

Seeing she wasn't the only one kicking them while they were down, Delphine paused for a moment and glanced toward the direction the black arrow had come from. The blurred figure of Patricia was faintly visible amidst the sandstorm.

The two arrows, one after the other, landed in the vampires' territory. With a deafening boom, the castle Evan had erected was instantly razed to the ground. Delia and Eric had raised a Blood Domain just before the powerful impact hit, but it only held for a few seconds. A terrifying force sent them flying. Even with the formidable defenses of the vampires, they couldn't withstand it, and bloody gashes appeared on their pale skin.

Evan was enraged by Delphine and Patricia's sneak attack. He abandoned his subordinates, who had been thrown who-knows-where, and his figure darted through the golden light, arriving within Delphine's territory in an instant.

Delphine raised her longbow again, retreating while aiming at Evan's afterimages. The ground was soon littered with jade-green arrows.

Tang Qiu's sharp eyes noticed that Evan had already passed through the layer of light magic and was trying to drive the elves out of their territory. She narrowed her eyes and turned to Reese. "How about we cooperate with the Elf Queen and kill this third-generation vampire?" Her tone was gentle, but it sent an inexplicable chill down one's spine.

Eliminating a third-generation vampire was indeed a tempting prospect, and this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Reese exchanged a look with the blonde bishop, then returned a meaningful smile and nodded. "We can try."

Killing a third-generation vampire was a glorious achievement that would be recorded in the annals of the Holy See.

Having made up her mind, Reese didn't hesitate. She turned and whispered a few words to Audrey and Vogt. The two were somewhat astonished, but after a moment of consideration, they both nodded, aiming their staves at Evan's location.

Reese, Audrey, and Vogt began to chant. Their voices, some high and some low, blended together in a surprisingly pleasant harmony.

Tang Qiu listened quietly for a moment, identifying the light magic they were casting.

Light Purification Spell. It sounded harmless, but its power was immense when unleashed.

Against non-dark creatures, this light spell might not even be as powerful as light flames. But against dark creatures, its power could be magnified several times over.

A Light Purification Spell cast by three Cardinals together was likely only a few degrees weaker than a Forbidden Technique.

Tang Qiu caressed the staff in her hands but didn't join the chant. The battle between Evan and Delphine was incredibly fierce. Although she couldn't see their figures clearly from such a distance, Tang Qiu had already determined their general location.

The scorching Power of Light evaporated the moisture in the air, and rolling heat waves swallowed the raging sandstorm. Seeing that Reese and the others were about to complete their spell, Tang Qiu raised her staff and cast a light barrier in Delphine's direction.

The sudden appearance of the light barrier startled Delphine. She glanced up in the direction it came from. Her excellent elven eyesight allowed her to see the immense Power of Light coalescing around the three Cardinals beside Tang Qiu.

Her expression grew slightly grave. She ignored Evan, put away her longbow, and commanded her people to retreat.

Evan also sensed the fluctuation of the Power of Light. He attempted to retreat toward Delphine's position but was blocked by an earth barrier she had deliberately left behind before leaving.

Although it only held him for a few seconds, it was enough for the Light Purification Spell to descend.

The moment Evan shattered the earth barrier with a punch, he was engulfed by white light.

Reese lowered her staff, looking at the spot of white light and shaking her head with a hint of regret. Tang Qiu glanced at her and asked with a frown, "What's wrong?"

The white light was too dazzling, and with the sandstorm obstructing her view, Tang Qiu couldn't see what had happened to Evan.

Before Reese could speak, Audrey, who was standing nearby, said flatly, "It was blocked."

Tang Qiu was stunned, finding it unbelievable. Just as she was about to ask more, a whirlwind suddenly rose from the center of the Mentos Desert, drawing everyone's attention.

The yellow sand was swept into the air by the whirlwind. Strands of sunlight pierced through the sand, shimmering with golden light. Above the Mentos Desert, a series of exquisite palaces appeared out of thin air. On four sides stood stone pillars carved with strange beasts, their height nearly reaching the heavens.

Holy Knights in golden armor patrolled the palaces, but upon closer inspection, their figures were illusory, making it impossible to determine if they were real.

The cluster of palaces that had suddenly appeared above the desert was the Temple of the Earth Mother. In comparison, none of the buildings in the three great empires of Gosse, Bill, or Gru, nor even in the more revered nation of the Holy See, could compare to the temple before them.

Gods were truly the representatives of supreme power. A single abandoned temple was enough to shake one's soul.

While everyone stared at the temple in a daze, Delia, who had been lightly injured by Delphine and Patricia's arrows, was staring intently at the white light that had engulfed Evan. Her palm was pressed against the ground, her expression slightly tense, a faint glimmer of anticipation in her eyes.

The temple held no attraction for her; she only wanted to confirm whether Evan was dead or alive. If the Light Purification Spell hadn't been so powerful, she would have rushed in to check long ago.

Logically, Evan had been trapped by the Elf Queen's earth barrier the moment he was engulfed by the white light. The full force of the purification spell should have fallen upon him. He should be dead, or at least severely injured.

Delia bit her lip, waiting anxiously for the white light to dissipate.

In reality, Evan, who Delia believed should have been severely injured, had only sustained minor wounds. He had only faced the Light Purification Spell of one Cardinal; the other two had been blocked for him by someone else.

In the nick of time, a white wolf had flown out from nowhere, taking the brunt of two Light Purification Spells.

Since werewolves were not dark creatures, the Light Purification Spell was not as potent against them.

After blocking the spell, the white wolf transformed into a human. Long golden hair cascaded down her back, her sky-blue eyes held a deep profundity, and her perfect features were marred by a hideous scar. Faye adjusted her slightly wrinkled sleeves while teasing the disheveled Evan, "This is the first time I've seen a third-generation vampire bullied so badly."

Evan wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth without a word, but his expression was frigid. It was also the first time he had been ganged up on by three Cardinals, an Elf Queen, and a Dark Elf leader all at once.

He hadn't even done anything. And the Black Witches' territory, a group far more hostile to the Holy See, was right next door. Why had the Holy See and the elves targeted him?

Evan had a fire of anger with nowhere to vent, so he could only suppress it. He glanced up at Faye and asked in a low voice, "What are you doing here?"

Faye finished meticulously straightening her sleeves before answering Evan's question. "I'm here to deliver someone to you."

Her saving him was no coincidence. In fact, she had been nearby the whole time. It was just Evan's good luck that he happened to flee in her direction.

She extended a hand toward Evan and said with a smile, "I saved you. Payment."

Evan looked at her in silence for a moment before taking out a Space Gem and tossing it to her.

Faye caught the Space Gem, glanced at its contents, and raised an eyebrow in satisfaction. "The life of a third-generation vampire is indeed valuable."

Inside the Space Gem were more than a dozen Elf Fruits.

"I can give you more," Evan said, producing another Space Gem and holding it between his fingers. He spoke in a deep voice, "As long as you help me get the Godhead."

He had been injured in the attack and was no longer in his peak condition. Moreover, his subordinates were either dead or wounded. After entering the Divine Ruins, he would be at a disadvantage whether facing the Holy See, the elves, or the Black Witches.

Faye was a powerful ally. If she could join forces with him...

Seeing that Faye seemed to have little interest in the Space Gem in his hand, Evan narrowed his eyes and added two more.

He had expected Faye to be tempted this time, but to his surprise, she refused again.

Faye shook her head, unmoved by Evan's proposal. "I have other objectives. I can't help you."

Evan frowned. "You're also interested in the Godhead?"

Faye let out a soft laugh and denied it. "No, it's something else." She didn't want to continue the discussion and changed the subject. "After this business with the Divine Ruins is over, have your subordinate bring the payment to me to collect the person."

Evan nodded and replied in a low voice, "Alright."

Just then, the white light began to fade. Not wanting to be exposed, Faye concealed herself again as the light dissipated. Evan walked out from the white light and looked up to see the temple above the Mentos Desert. He stopped in his tracks, staring at the temple with unconcealed greed on his face.

Delia, who had been watching the white light the entire time, saw Evan emerge completely unscathed and lowered her head in disappointment.
