VAP - Chapter 103
Chapter 103: Yue Hao
Main God Space.
By the edge of the silvery-white pool, Yue Du lowered her head to look at the black seven-pointed star mark on her wrist, her expression slightly dazed.
This time, the Main System hadn't even given her a moment to linger, recalling her immediately upon the mission's completion. She had no idea what the rush was.
But… so be it. Ah Jiu had already ascended to immortality and wouldn't be returning. Even if she had been given ample time to stay, it would have been useless to her.
Yue Du sighed, then recalled the message the Main System had just issued.
It stated that the host was no longer in the Qianhong small world, which meant that the immortal realm cultivators from Qianhong Divine Province ascended to was not, in fact, part of the same small world.
Could different small worlds be connected through a method like "ascension"? No wonder cultivators from Qianhong Divine Province could never descend again after ascending. Crossing world barriers was not so simple.
Yue Du couldn't help but think of Yun Yijiu. Ah Jiu was so powerful; she would surely be the one looking down on others in the immortal realm. No one would dare to bully her.
Imagining Yun Yijiu holding her Duzun Sword, her deadpan face daring anyone to provoke her, Yue Du couldn't help but smile.
But soon, the curve of her lips fell.
I hope Ah Jiu isn't too sad.
I said I would find her, so I will do everything in my power to fulfill that promise. Until then, I'll have to trouble her to wait.
Yue Du had completed the first three mission worlds practically back-to-back, with almost no rest in between.
Before she left for the Qianhong small world, the customer service agent had reminded her that frequently crossing world barriers was not good for a System and that she should rest for a few days between missions.
So this time, despite her urgent desire to see the host again, Yue Du didn't plan to leave the Main God Space immediately.
Of course, she had another reason for staying—the time had come to resurrect Yue Hao.
Yue Du had initially agreed to work for the Main God as a System because the black-and-white customer service agent had made her an offer she couldn't refuse: as long as she had enough points, she could resurrect her younger sister.
The points she earned from this mission were exceptionally high. And… perhaps because Ah Jiu had been completely unaware of the system and the mission from beginning to end, the points that should have belonged to the host were all credited to Yue Du.
The customer service agent had told her before that resurrecting Yue Hao would require thirty thousand points.
Yue Du currently held thirty-five thousand points, more than enough to fulfill her wish while leaving a sufficient amount in reserve for the next mission world.
Logically, with everything ready, she should have paid the points immediately. Yet, Yue Du didn't go to the Main Hall. Instead, she first returned to the System's lounge.
The System's lounge was equivalent to a staff dormitory. It was a single room, and its furnishings were arranged by the Systems themselves.
Yue Du had never been in the mood to bother with such things, so her room was very simply furnished, much like a standard single room in a hotel.
At a glance, it was impossible to determine the age, gender, or hobbies of the person living there.
At this moment, Yue Du was sitting at a small round table by the window, turning her head to look outside.
Outside was a tranquil spring scene, filled with the chirping of birds and the fragrance of flowers, with lush greenery all around. But it was all fake. The window couldn't be opened, and no one knew what the scenery outside was really like.
Gazing at the false scenery, Yue Du rested her chin on one hand, her eyes unfocused, as if in a daze.
Yue Du and Yue Hao were seven years apart.
Although they were sisters, they didn't look alike. Yue Du took after their mother, possessing a kind of refined beauty that made her seem gentle and moving even when she wasn't smiling or speaking. Yue Hao, on the other hand, resembled their unlucky father, especially in height. At eighteen, she had just broken 1.8 meters and was still growing.
Their mother had passed away early from lymphoma. She had held on for over two years before she left. At that time, Yue Du had just graduated from high school, and Yue Hao was only in the sixth grade.
They had no close blood relatives on their mother's side, and as for their father's side, the relationships were as good as dead and could be ignored.
Because of this, the two sisters were very close. Especially when Yue Du was working while Yue Hao was still in school, Yue Du covered her tuition and living expenses, perfectly embodying the saying that an elder sister is like a mother.
Yue Hao lived up to her name—"Hao" meaning good. She was pretty and tall, just a bit of a natural airhead. When she was quiet, she was a proper, heroic beauty, but the moment she spoke, her goofy husky nature was exposed, making her seem adorably silly.
Ever since starting university, Yue Hao had pestered Yue Du about finding a part-time job, preferably one related to her sister's work.
Yue Du glanced at her height. "Modeling, then?"
Yue Hao said, "The kind that poses for magazine covers? Wow, that’s a little embarrassing…"
Yue Du said, "Don't be so quick to get embarrassed. You think height is all it takes to be a model? I'll take you to an audition first. We'll talk after you pass. If you don't, you can go hand out flyers."
Yue Hao whimpered pitifully, "Ying."
And then she actually passed. It wasn't just for magazine covers; she did more runway shows, training so hard every day that she began to question her existence.
While wailing, "I've been uncoordinated since I was a child!" she simultaneously became the leader of her training group, the one the instructor always singled out for praise.
After getting her first paycheck, she came over, chattering excitedly, "Sis, I earned money! Look, look, so much! I have next month's living expenses covered, you don't have to give me any—"
Yue Du was speechless.
Fine, then.
A part-time job during university was no big deal. Seeing how much Hao Hao seemed to like it, if she developed well, becoming a professional model wasn't out of the question.
In any case, she was in the industry. With her around, things would be a bit smoother.
—Much later, this would become one of the most regrettable decisions of Yue Du's life.
Her train of thought broke. Yue Du pulled herself from her memories and, after sitting quietly for a long while, finally rose and headed to the Main Hall.
A customer service agent who looked unfamiliar greeted her. "Welcome back, 0996. Is there anything you need?"
Yue Du said, "Ah, yes, there is."
She called up the contract she had signed when she first arrived in the Main God Space—the very contract that had confirmed her employment under the Main God.
"This is my contract," Yue Du said calmly. "It includes a clause stating that if I agree to join the Systems, I can resurrect my sister for thirty thousand points. Please take a look."
The customer service agent looked at the light screen, surprised. "You've only been through three small worlds, and you've already saved up thirty thousand points?"
Yue Du smiled but didn't answer.
The agent didn't press further. "Alright, I understand. However, according to regulations, this is not a matter the customer service department can resolve. It is handled directly by the Main God."
"I have sent a request to the Main God. Please wait a moment."
Yue Du asked, "Have there been cases like this before?"
"Of course, but it's rare. This is a hidden project," the agent said.
Yue Du recalled when she had first arrived. The black-and-white customer service agent had told her there were many benefits to being a System, and that refusing would result in being formatted. She hadn't cared about either option. It was only when the agent was at a loss that she had proposed the offer to resurrect Yue Hao.
So that's what a hidden project meant.
The customer service agent received a response from the Main God.
"The Main God wants to see you," she said, pausing in confusion before continuing, "The A-1 Restricted Area will be open to you for the next two hours. Please proceed to the A-1 Restricted Area immediately. Once the time is up, your access will be automatically revoked."
Yue Du knew of the A-1 Restricted Area. It was located at the other end of the Main Hall and was the least mysterious of all the restricted areas, as it was where the Main God would meet with customer service agents and Systems.
If the Main God issued an invitation, it was always to A-1.
After bidding farewell to the agent, Yue Du headed to A-1 without delay.
The entrance to every restricted area was a vivid red, symbolizing a warning. As Yue Du approached, the door to Area A-1 flickered, and the red color faded away, a sign that her access had been granted.
When she entered, there was already a figure inside, but it seemed to be shrouded in a glowing mist, indistinct and difficult to see clearly.
This was the Main God.
The very entity who controlled the Main System that made Yue Du's teeth itch with hatred.
"Are you Yue Du?" the figure asked.
Yue Du was surprised that he asked for her name instead of her system number. "I am."
The Main God's voice was somewhat dejected and listless, completely different from what she had imagined.
The listless Main God spoke without energy, "This one knows why you have come."
"To resurrect a non-system human, her memory of her own death must be erased. Simultaneously, the node in her small world that led to her death must be modified, erasing the existence of the death itself. In other words, your sister will open her eyes and find herself at home, as if nothing ever happened."
"According to system regulations, you may return to see her, but you cannot disclose the specific details of your work here."
"Additionally, you may spend points to purchase time to stay in your native small world. Every one hundred points will grant you one hour."
"Are the above terms acceptable? If so, this one shall begin."
Yue Du listened carefully, then asked, "My own death was related to my sister's. How will that be handled?"
The Main God said, "You won't die either."
Yue Du said, "But that doesn't make sense. How do I explain my long absence, and my job…"
The Main God seemed to shrug. "That is a problem for you to consider."
Yue Du thought about what the Main System had done and instantly felt that the Main God deserved a beating. After all, like master, like servant.
"Are you certain you want to resurrect Yue Hao?"
"I'm certain."
"Then, Yue Hao will be lying in her home in one hour, with no memory of her death."
"Thirty thousand points have been deducted."
Still an hour to go, huh?
The Main God seemed about to get up when Yue Du suddenly asked, "May I ask you a few questions?"
"You may ask," the Main God said. "Whether this one answers is for this one to decide."
Yue Du said, "I assume you are aware that I was restricted from telling the host about the system and the mission in the Qianhong small world."
The Main God said, "…This one recalls. That was due to the special requirements of that mission."
"A special requirement, just for that one time?"
"Barring any accidents, yes."
Yue Du breathed a silent sigh of relief, but her face remained calm as she continued, "For this mission, the host's points were all transferred to me. Isn't that somewhat unreasonable?"
The Main God said, "How is it unreasonable? Even if I didn't give them to you, she would have. Isn't that how it always is? It just so happened that the circumstances were special this time, so they were all settled with you at once."
Yue Du shook her head. "She served as a host—even if she was unaware, she was still a host. She can't just receive no reward, or compensation, can she?"
"She has already successfully ascended and escaped her fate of demise. That is the greatest compensation."
Yue Du said, "Ascension was the mission set by the Main System. How can that be counted?"
The Main God was silent.
Perhaps having already accepted reality, the Main God's dejected voice now carried a hint of resignation. "What kind of compensation do you think would be appropriate?"
Yue Du smiled. "She has already ascended, so I have no idea what she needs. How about this: you can send me the coordinates of the small world she is currently in, and I will go ask her when I have time."
The expression of the Main God, hidden beneath the mist, instantly became indescribable.
"The upper world of the Qianhong small world is not in the system's mission sequence."
Yue Du said, "I'm not going on a mission, just providing after-sales service for the host."
The Main God was silent for a few seconds. "This one needs to consider it. Ah, your sister is alive now. You should go."
He still has to go back and ask his boss.
Yue Du said, "I will await your reply."
Didn't he just say it would take an hour?
Heh, just like the Main System.
