LWGP - Chapter 55
Chapter 55: Sausage
Although Xiao Jue and his team were locked in a fierce battle, they weren't too far away. With their increased Agility, their senses were sharp enough to hear the commotion from Wang Jiu's side.
Initially, Wang Jiu's rapid takedown of two Blade Shieldbearers gave them some combat inspiration. They immediately put her tactics to use without a word of thanks, but that didn't stop them from hearing the mood in her voice as she ruthlessly exploited Wang Shu.
Xiao Jue: I originally thought she'd want to fatten him up before the slaughter. I never imagined she'd butcher the pig halfway.
Xiao Qing: So that's why it took you six years to realize she was playing you?
The half-butchered pig, Wang Shu, was terrified. Wang Jiu, however, never pinned her hopes on others. Despite her words, her gaze swept over to the braised pork shop, where she saw meat still being thrown from the second floor. To save their own skins, the manager and staff were likely about to squander the entire store's inventory.
Wang Jiu had hoped that two or three of the four passing Blade Shieldbearers would be lured away. They should at least have a bite to eat before fighting (even if the dining environment was somewhat anti-humanitarian). She genuinely hoped they'd come over on a full stomach.
However... these four Blade Shieldbearers were incredibly arrogant; they didn't even glance at the braised pork.
Because it was covered in shit?
Pretty picky.
Wang Jiu thought for a moment, then opened the team inventory and asked the System if she could use the items now. The System replied: "You're the team captain, and you have ownership rights. This is an invasion-type dungeon, so monster drops can be picked up and used as they appear. The same applies to unknown mode. However, rewards like the overall dungeon evaluation are only given after the instance is complete."
The meaning was clear enough: items that had already dropped and belonged to her, which she had the right to distribute, were usable. If it had been Wang Peng, however, he wouldn't have been able to use them.
Hearing this, Wang Jiu pulled the sausage directly from the team inventory. She had wanted one for a long time. When Xiao Li had gotten his, it had smelled so fragrant and looked delicious. Was she, a divorced woman, unworthy of eating sausage?
She wasn't sure if this aroma would have any effect on the four Blade Shieldbearers. If they liked braised pork so much, perhaps it was a racial trait to like meat, especially strongly flavored kinds. You crave what you lack?
The moment she had that thought, Wang Jiu noticed the four Blade Shieldbearers staring intently at the sausage in her hand.
In their world, a System-produced sausage was clearly a superior product.
Excellent, it was working!
She had originally intended to throw the whole thing to lure the monsters, but then she remembered how hard it was to come by. (Mainly because her own 'paws' couldn't seem to loot one, making those looted by others especially precious. The old saying goes, 'a wife is not as good as a concubine, and a concubine is not as good as a stolen lover'... something to that effect.) Suddenly, Wang Jiu held the sausage in one hand and her sword in the other. As if she were shaving noodles, swish—she flicked a slice of sausage off the tip of her sword.
The four Blade Shieldbearers' eyes went green with envy as they all scrambled after it.
The Husky F4?
Why didn't they just try to snatch the one in her hand?
Hmm, their logic could probably be understood as: This human is our food, so what's in her hand is naturally ours as well. But the piece she threw might not be ours, so we must get it back.
Was this logic stupid? No, but it was a form of greed.
But as a creature's spirituality grows, it must pass through many stages. At the higher stages, both positive and negative traits develop in tandem.
Wang Jiu figured that as the System raised the monsters' intelligence with their level and grade, human-like traits such as greed would also emerge.
Just as she thought.
However! I'm trying to split you up, not have you all run off together!
Otherwise, what's the difference between this and feeding dogs!
Wang Jiu's face darkened. She quickly shaved off another slice...
The three at the back immediately turned around.
Wang Jiu threw the second slice, leaving only two of the three.
Then Wang Jiu put the sausage away.
From planning to throw the whole thing to cutting just two slices—this was an epic-level evolution in stinginess.
Wang Shu was dumbfounded. You can pull monsters like that?
The two Blade Shieldbearers were also stunned. This human is disgusting! Does she take us for dogs?
The two charged over menacingly, and then they were on the ground.
It wasn't easy; Wang Jiu had to go all out to kill them. She had to time it perfectly, as the other two had already finished their sausage slices and were charging back.
Once again, Wang Jiu took out the sausage and shaved off a thin slice. This time, she had another epiphany, because she had just asked the System a question.
"My dear, if I use my sausage to lure the Blade Shieldbearers into killing the Blade Minions, who gets credit for the kills?"
System: "You do."
Excellent. Wang Jiu immediately threw a precious slice of sausage into the crowd of Blade Minions gathered near the braised pork.
If the Blade Shieldbearers loved it, the Blade Minions were even more ecstatic. They scrambled madly to eat it, only to be cut down by the charging Blade Shieldbearers.
One slash, one kill.
Don't ask how. Wang Jiu just stood in place, remotely controlling her sword to shave and fling slices of sausage. The Blade Shieldbearers and Blade Minions were thrown into a chaotic, inescapable slaughter. The body count rose steadily, several times faster than if Wang Jiu had been killing them herself.
Holy shit! That actually works!
Xu Zhiyan and the others, who had just struggled to take down a single Blade Shieldbearer together, were flabbergasted.
Lao Wang's methods were so damn slick, one scheme after another.
"Does anyone have a sausage?"
"I only have cured meat. I don't know if it'll work, but I doubt it's as effective as that sausage. Peng-zi, what about you?"
"I just looted two and got one sausage. Here."
Wang Peng held the sausage like a precious treasure. But when the others compared his loot results to Wang Jiu's, they started giving him funny looks.
Wang Peng: "Fuck! My hands aren't unlucky! You guys try it if you don't believe me! Sister Qing, you do it!"
Xiao Qing glanced at the Blade Minions on the ground, all uniformly covered in filth, then at the sausage in Wang Peng's hand, which had gotten some of... that... on it when it dropped. She sighed in resignation.
To loot or not to loot? That was the question.
She was filled with regret. Why wasn't there a fire hydrant in the middle of the lane!
So the sausage was a secret weapon for farming monsters! Once they got the idea, Xiao Jue's team tried to copy her, but they found it wasn't as effective.
First, the sausage had just dropped, so it was still fresh and somewhat soft. The slices were very light, making it difficult to fling them far with the precise flick of a sword blade. None of them could manage it. Throwing by hand wasn't much easier; the slices were too light and thin to go any significant distance.
It was the same reason an ordinary person can't make knife-shaved noodles.
"No need to copy her stinginess. We'll cut it into chunks," Xiao Jue said decisively, making sure to get a dig in at Wang Jiu.
Xiao Qing shot him a look. "She can hear you."
Xiao Jue: "So what?"
So what?
Soon enough, they overheard a conversation between Wang Jiu and Wang Shu.
Wang Shu: "Master, I didn't get a blade, but I did get another shield."
A shield was actually quite good. Equipment from a Blade Shieldbearer?
Everyone looked at Wang Peng, but he refused to loot again, afraid he'd be kicked off the team.
Wang Jiu: "Oh. Loot the others, then cut a few thin slices of sausage and keep them ready. We might need them later."
Her tone was exceptionally gentle.
Wang Shu: "Okay, Master. You're not mad at me?"
Wang Jiu: "What is there to be mad about? Am I that venomous and stingy? By the way, this sausage is soft when it first drops. You need to give it a little time, a little patience, and let it slowly get hard. Then, da-da-da, you can quickly slice it thin. Why are you looking at me like that? I'm not threatening you. I'm not talking about your physiological sausages. What's with that expression?"
Her tone was even gentler than before.
Your sausages.
You all.
All.
Wang Shu and Xiao Jue: "..."
All the men present felt an inexplicable tightness in their crotches.
With the help of the sausage, the pressure on their side eased considerably. Suddenly, they heard the gangster-type from the upper right roar, "Fuck! You useless bastards, did none of you wash your damn hands? Can't even loot a single sausage! That pretty little missy down there already gave us a tutorial on how to farm monsters!"
"Brother Li, why don't you do it!"
"Do it? Do it my ass! Have you forgotten that the last time I looted a boss we barely managed to kill, I got ten fucking boxes of XXX-brand musk hemorrhoid cream?"
"Don't say that, bro, that hemorrhoid cream actually works pretty well... Ahem. So what do we do? Goddammit, does this piece of shit System have a grudge against us or something!"
"Leave them for now. Later, we'll go hire that pretty little missy's dead fatty to come loot for us."
The gangster's voice carried. Wang Shu heard everything, and his portly frame trembled. Why does 'pretty little missy' have to be followed by 'dead fatty'?! Is that any way to ask for a favor? Loot corpses for you? Dream on!
Wang Jiu paid them no mind. After whittling down a pile of Blade Minions with about two-thirds of a sausage, she didn't send Wang Shu over to loot. The area was covered in filth, and besides, the two Blade Shieldbearers weren't dead yet.
When the time was right, she used the remaining sausage to lure the two over.
The water was still spraying from the hydrant. As they approached, the filth clinging to their legs was diluted, creating a truly spectacular color.
Since Wang Shu was squatting, he had a front-row seat to watch the liquid dilute, the colors blend, and the resulting mixture flow...
Bleargh~~~
But he didn't dare stand up. His master was waiting for him to loot a treasured sword!
Damn it all! If it weren't for the apocalypse, he'd still be a minor tycoon living the good life in some eighteenth-tier county town, wanting for nothing.
But now... this goddamn corpse!
Bleargh!!
Wang Shu immediately yanked his third mask up over his eyes. If I can't smell it and can't see it, then you don't exist, you don't exist, you don't exist!
Wang Jiu backed away a few steps, using sausage slices to bait them into exposing their backs.
Bang! Bang! Two vicious backstabs sent them to the ground, one after the other.
Still squatting on the ground, looting the corpses with the solemn conviction of protecting his "sausage," Wang Shu looked at Wang Jiu with an expression of pure adoration.
"Where's my blade?" Wang Jiu asked coldly.
The flower of adoration withered instantly.
"Right away, right away!" Wang Shu panicked.
It wasn't that Wang Jiu was being harsh. The next wave was coming soon, and it would surely consist of more than four. The monsters weren't stupid; they would quickly realize it was a sausage trap.
If the sausage stopped working...
Whether it was her venomous tongue or her toxic thoughts, the third wave of Blade Shieldbearers numbered six!
And just as she'd feared, their desire for the sausage had diminished. No, it was more like they had suppressed their greed, intending to kill the sausage-wielders first—especially Wang Jiu, whose aggro was through the roof!
In the eyes of these monsters, Wang Jiu's threat level was already blood-red.
She had killed nine out of ten of their brethren!
Get her!
