LWGP - Chapter 7
Chapter 7: Fierce Man
The murderer kicked in the chest by Wang Jiu felt a sharp pain and involuntarily fell backward.
If his legs had been fine, he could have held his ground. But there were no ifs!
Bang!!
The murderer still had the axe in his hand as he fell. He tried to raise it, but his wrist was already grabbed. Then, swish, his arm was twisted back in a ground takedown. Crack! The bone in his hand dislocated, and the axe fell. Just as the murderer screamed, a scalpel was "delivered" free of charge into his back.
It all happened in less than a minute.
Li Meng and Wang Ling were stunned. Before they could say anything, they heard a scream from the other side. Xu Kai had been cut down, and Zhang Xu was sent flying by a kick, landing heavily on the ground. Only Liu Guang was left, grabbing Xu Kai's arm to drag him up. But the murderer charged toward the fallen Zhang Xu.
"Zhang Xu, look out!" Liu Guang shouted in horror.
Zhang Xu's whole body was wracked with pain, and he was seeing stars. When he opened his eyes and saw the murderer lunge at him, he was terrified. He struggled to get up, but...
The murderer raised his axe, about to bring it down on Zhang Xu's head.
Seeing this, Wang Jiu, who was some distance away, grabbed the axe dropped by the dead murderer. She took aim, seeming to gauge the distance, then swung her arm back and threw it.
The axe spun rapidly in mid-air... flying through the air from behind. With a thwack, its sharp blade landed squarely, cleaving into the murderer's back.
A fatal hit. The axe had split his heart.
The force and accuracy were perfect.
The murderer's body stiffened. Unlike villains in movies who struggle to get in one last hit, he died instantly. The axe slipped from his hand...
Zhang Xu scrambled into a clumsy roll, hastily dodging. The falling axe struck the ground, chipping the marble floor. If he hadn't moved, it would have landed right between his legs.
Thank goodness.
Zhang Xu was still shaken, but he stared dumbfounded at Wang Jiu, who was four or five meters away.
"Lao... Lao Wang... have you trained before?"
Wang Jiu grunted in affirmation, flexing her wrist. "I've practiced combat techniques, but I'm rusty."
Of course, there are no opportunities for life-and-death battles like this in the real world.
Li Meng and Wang Ling both knew Wang Jiu was well-off and from a big city. They had heard that it wasn't uncommon for women there to practice Muay Thai, but those with actual combat experience were as rare as a phoenix feather.
And that axe throw... had she practiced that too?
Liu Guang let out a breath and said admiringly, "Impressive."
Wang Jiu was noncommittal. She walked over, pulled the axe from the murderer's back, and collected two kills. The system naturally sent a notification, but there was no reward this time, probably due to the environment.
"These two were Number Two and Number Eight. With Number Four and Number Seven from before, the timer shows five murderers left. One of them, number unknown, is already dead."
There wasn't really anything worth taking here. Were they supposed to take the trash from the trash can?
Wang Jiu glanced at the trash on the floor, noticing some scattered snack wrappers, but paid them no mind. Zhang Xu and the others, however, were focused on searching the two murderers for clues.
They found both of their phones and locators.
The two groups each took a phone and a locator.
"Why take the locators? What if they use them to track us..."
"It's fine as long as we don't keep them on our person. They might be useful."
Whatever Wang Jiu said, the others listened. Even Wang Ling and Xu Kai stopped complaining. They were even considering asking to go to the 12th floor with Wang Jiu's group, but while they were still struggling with how to bring it up, Liu Guang suddenly stared at the elevator, his expression wary.
"It's coming again."
Everyone looked over and saw that the elevator on the right had finally reached the 11th floor.
But Wang Jiu felt something was off. Given the time they had just spent fighting, it was long enough for an elevator to travel from the 1st to the 11th floor. Besides, she had seen this elevator on the fifth floor earlier. Why was it only arriving now?
Unless... unless it had stopped somewhere in between.
That in itself wasn't the biggest problem. The biggest problem was...
The elevator stopped. The doors were smeared with blood. When they opened, the inside was also covered in blood. There was no one inside, only a round, dark object.
It had its back to them. A buzz cut.
Was it scary?
Yes, but compared to the state of the elevator's interior, it wasn't the main point.
"The walls inside... what happened?" Wang Ling murmured.
There were strange dents, as if something had whipped or rammed against them, denting the smooth inner walls.
"It's that thing, the monster. This elevator's final destination was our floor, the 11th. I guess the people below also found the clue for the 11th floor. They probably stopped it midway, only to be attacked. If there was only one person inside, they were eaten. If there was more than one, they must have escaped during the attack below."
As Wang Jiu finished her analysis, everyone's scalp tingled. Liu Guang said, "Then they're now..."
Before he could finish, a shrill, terrifying scream came from somewhere. It was piercing and creepy, echoing through the space. It felt as if the tops of their skulls had been pried open and the horrible sound poured inside.
"It's coming from the stairwell. They ran into the stairwell, and it followed them."
"The footsteps are getting closer! They might be running upstairs! Let's go!"
If it were one or two murderers, they might have been willing to fight and try to save the people fleeing from below. But the scene inside that other elevator was too terrifying. You didn't need to be a genius to know how horrifying this monster was. They didn't dare take the risk, so everyone quickly got into their elevator.
Just as they got in, bang!!
The stairwell door was pushed open, and a person rushed out. No, it was two people.
It was a rugged big guy carrying a thin little girl of about seven or eight. He saw Wang Jiu and the others, and he saw the elevator doors closing. His mouth moved, but no sound came out. He just kept running toward them, holding the child, but before he could reach them... the elevator doors closed.
His eyes dimmed. Thinking of the continuous screams coming from the stairwell behind him, he gritted his teeth and was about to head for another elevator...
Swish, the elevator doors opened.
"Get in, quick," Li Meng shouted. The big guy's eyes lit up, and he rushed in with the child. But as soon as he was inside, Wang Jiu pushed him aside and looked past him, out of the elevator. Her brow furrowed. Following her gaze, the others saw a massive, dark shape blocking the stairwell door that the big guy had just pushed open.
A closer look revealed it.
It looked like a head.
A very large one.
Above the scales was a pair of enormous, emerald-green snake pupils!
It was staring right at them.
Then the elevator doors closed, cutting off the view.
Inside the elevator, everyone was dead silent, but they felt like their heads were about to explode.
"Was that just... a snake?"
Zhang Xu asked the big guy, his voice trembling. The big guy's mouth moved, but no sound came out. Since they were all from the medical field, they realized it at once—he couldn't speak!
"He's the big guy from our seventh floor, the Fierce Man who beat up Number Seven!" Wang Ling said with pleasant surprise.
The big guy looked confused, seemingly not understanding what "Number Seven" meant. The others had no time to explain, and besides, communication was difficult since he couldn't speak. And then, they arrived at the 12th floor.
As soon as they arrived, Wang Jiu and Liu Guang were the first ones out. With perfect coordination, they bolted the stairwell door on the twelfth floor from the outside to prevent the monster from coming up.
"It's probably a type of python. At least fifteen meters long, with a body diameter of about one meter?"
Wang Jiu asked the big guy after locking the door, estimating the snake's body size based on the size of its head.
The big guy, holding the little girl, nodded.
"Even at that size, it shouldn't have that much impact force. It might have been fed corpses or subjected to biochemical research. It's mutated."
Wang Jiu's expression was grim, and the others looked no better. Staring at the bolted door, they wondered: could this stop it?
"Let's go to the dean's office first. We have to get the key!"
This place was too terrifying!
The Dean's office was right in front of them. As expected of the hospital director's place, it was brightly lit. The lights were all working perfectly, not flickering scarily like the ones below.
Clean, aesthetically pleasing, and high-end. At first glance, it looked no different from a normal hospital, but this only made the group more vigilant.
Because from what they had seen so far, this Dean was the one controlling this terrifying hospital.
Before going in, the group made some preparations. First, Xu Kai's wound was bandaged. Then, they had to make use of the big guy, who was obviously a powerful fighter.
"What's wrong with her?" Li Meng and Wang Ling asked.
The big guy couldn't speak, so he pointed to the girl's heart and then made a fainting gesture.
The group also noticed the girl was wearing a patient's gown. Combined with their professional backgrounds, they understood at once and couldn't help but sigh.
A heart condition.
"Don't worry. Once we get out of here, your daughter's luck will surely turn for the better." As doctors, they were sometimes quite good at spouting nonsense. A heart condition turning for the better?
Not necessarily impossible. They didn't dare put limits on how miraculous this system could be. Maybe a miracle really could happen.
Could this be a silver lining to this nightmare? Li Meng and the others thought with quiet optimism.
The big guy paused for a moment, then nodded.
The group had wanted him to free up his hands to join the fight, but seeing the situation, they found it hard to ask. Wang Jiu, however, glanced at him and spoke directly, "Give her to Li Meng and Wang Ling. Xu Kai and Zhang Xu will cover the rear, responsible for scouting the surroundings and giving warnings. The three of us will be at the front. If the three of us can't handle it, our only option is to run for our lives. It makes no difference who's holding her then; we'd all die anyway. If you're still worried, you can go take her back then without wasting time. Deal?"
It seemed ruthless, but it was the most logical arrangement to maximize their strength in the current situation.
The big guy looked at Wang Jiu, then at Li Meng and Wang Ling, and nodded.
Good, he was decisive.
"Then let's go."
The Dean's office door was unlocked. They pushed it open slowly. Just as Wang Jiu's group of three stepped inside.
Swish! A chilling wind, and an axe came straight for his face. The big guy, who was in the lead, took a step back, raised his own axe to block. Clang!!
Sparks flew as axe met axe.
Neither Wang Jiu nor Liu Guang—in fact, no one here—dared to face these murderers head-on. They were at a huge disadvantage in terms of size and physical fitness. Of course, someone like Chen Dong was an exception.
But this big guy dared. And in that collision, he didn't retreat; his opponent did. The moment the other guy fell back, the big guy shot forward like lightning, sidestepped, dodged, and swung his axe at the man's waist!
The axe bit into his waist and abdomen. It was basically a KO. Impressive!
No wonder he'd managed to survive this long while carrying an unconscious girl.
Meanwhile, Liu Guang and Wang Jiu had no time to watch him, because... there was a chill from ahead.
Swish!
Wang Jiu sidestepped. The axe swept past her neck, the wind it generated making her skin feel cold.
Seeing this, Liu Guang beside her immediately brought his axe down.
Clang! This murderer swiftly blocked and pushed back. Liu Guang's wrist trembled, and he stumbled back two steps. "Be careful!"
The murderer forced Liu Guang back, leaving only Wang Jiu in front of him.
