VAP - Chapter 2
Chapter 2: The Sleeping Beauty Whose Words Are Law (1)
The 161 Silver Galaxy Small World was one of many parallel worlds within the galactic cluster. Its main stage was Earth, much like the world Yue Du had once lived in.
Its technological level was also quite similar to that world, but it simultaneously featured the existence of espers, whose powers were not to be underestimated.
If nothing unexpected happened, after a brief period of chaos following the initial emergence of superpowers, it would develop into a world where technology and the supernatural held equal weight.
According to the plot outline in Yue Du’s hands, the protagonist, Xing Qingcang, was the driving force behind the world’s development, while the villain, Qi Jiu, was the “accident” attempting to obstruct that progress—
Like many old-school villains, this girl, who possessed the Word Spirit ability, wanted to annihilate all things and destroy the world!
The kind that included destroying herself along with it!
Yue Du: “…”
Such lofty aspirations.
As a new member of the Villain Awakening Project, Yue Du was naturally meant to be bound to Qi Jiu.
At present, however, she only had the plot outline, which roughly described Qi Jiu’s general experiences:
The person known as Qi Jiu was bullied at school in her youth. Upon awakening her ability, she was instantly at max level and decided to take revenge on society, declaring that she would let “the world’s destruction bloom into the most beautiful firework”… In the end, she remained unrepentant and self-destructed.
But what was Qi Jiu’s appearance, her personality, her way of handling things, and the specific methods she used?
Yue Du knew nothing.
This was her future host, her partner in this world. The quality of their relationship would naturally affect the mission’s completion rate.
Under these circumstances, her lack of understanding of the host was a significant hurdle.
With that in mind, Yue Du passed through the world barrier of the 161 Silver Galaxy Small World.
A System’s form only manifested in the System Space and the host’s mental space. Therefore, she was currently just a stream of blue data.
The System data, imperceptible to ordinary people, flowed and circled above the small world. As she pondered, she automatically pinpointed the current time coordinate and Qi Jiu’s location.
The positioning was completed almost instantaneously.
Time coordinate: The year 202X, three years before the great outbreak of superpowers.
Qi Jiu’s location: Star Class, Year Two, Shengjing City First High School, China.
Lock onto the host, proceed to her location, and complete the binding—that was the standard procedure.
But Yue Du didn’t plan to merge directly with Qi Jiu’s mental space.
She needed time to observe, to understand everything about Qi Jiu, and to decide how to interact with her based on that information.
After all, villains were, more or less, special. They couldn’t be measured by ordinary standards.
What if she got upset and would rather commit suicide than be bound to a System?
What if she was just intensely rebellious, and the moment the System said to complete the mission, she would deliberately refuse to cooperate?
Yue Du was a System that specialized in binding to villains. Her hosts were destined not to be as naive and sweet as the task-takers randomly selected from countless small worlds. If she was too rash in her approach and caused the mission to go awry, she would never be able to forgive herself.
And so.
The stream of blue data traversed space at near light speed, landing weightlessly and unnoticed in the host’s second-year classroom.
That’s right.
Yue Du decided… to observe in secret.
The secret observation plan met with a setback right away.
Plans are one thing when you’re thinking about them, but quite another when you put them into practice. It wasn’t anything major, just that Qi Jiu, this future villain… was truly hard to put into words.
At first, faced with a classroom full of students and a teacher who had just dismissed the class from the podium, even a System as efficient as Yue Du was stumped, unable to find Qi Jiu anywhere.
Logically speaking, a villain should have some distinguishing feature that makes them stand out at a glance. Even if this villain was still in her weak, bullied phase, there should at least be some clues from the actions of those around her after class, right?
But there was nothing.
In this classroom, there was no girl with a special aura, nor was there a pitiable soul being surrounded and bullied during the break.
There was one student, a short, hunched-over boy, who was mocked by a blond delinquent for his timid posture while erasing the blackboard. But that was a boy.
Yue Du fell into deep thought. “…”
She was afraid she had gotten the location wrong.
Could it be that Qi Jiu wasn’t here at all, but in the classroom next door, or on the floor above or below?
Doubting her own System functions, Yue Du quickly located the school’s academic affairs office, accessed its computer network, and looked up the student rosters.
A simple search brought up the list for the 201X Year Two Star Class, and Qi Jiu’s name was right there.
The information in her personal file was pitifully sparse, containing only the mandatory fields: contact number, home address, and the like. Not even her high school entrance exam scores were included. Beyond that, it was as standard as any other student’s file, revealing nothing special.
Yue Du also scanned her ID photo. As the System’s “eyes” fell upon the girl in the picture, its deep-level data momentarily destabilized.
Her first reaction was one of sheer awe.
In her previous life, Yue Du had been a successful talent manager. In her five years in the industry, she had grown accustomed to seeing all kinds of top-tier beauties.
Natural or man-made, glamorous or pure… while she couldn’t claim to have seen them all, she was at least worldly enough that ordinary beauty no longer moved her.
But Qi Jiu was different.
Though it was just an ID photo, it possessed an ineffable, resplendent magnificence. Her long hair was down, her eyes were half-closed, and the corners of her lips were turned up in a seemingly unintentional, barely perceptible curve, like a lazy smile.
Yue Du had to look closer to confirm that she was indeed wearing the school uniform for the photo, not an evening gown or some other custom-made finery.
To make a school uniform look like that from the chest up, and to capture it in an ID photo… was this girl a goddess???
Yue Du was incredulous. Were those bullies mentioned in the script all blind? Were they?! Even without seeing her in person, this photo alone was enough to make anyone question their orientation, you know!
The moment of awe and admiration was brief. Yue Du quickly thought of a key question: since Qi Jiu’s appearance was so conspicuous—to the point where it was impossible to ignore unless you were blind—why hadn’t she seen this girl in the classroom earlier?
The computer didn’t store trivial data like class seating charts. Filled with doubt, Yue Du transported herself back to the Star Class classroom, activated her enhanced perspective, and began to scan the room, row by row.
She didn’t even spare the boys, just in case the girl had gender identity issues or was disguised as a boy.
Soon, in a corner of the last row, Yue Du found… she found someone covered with a school jacket, sprawled on their desk, fast asleep.
Yue Du: “…”
Her data stream froze for a moment.
No wonder she couldn’t find Qi Jiu. While she was completely baffled, her dear classmate Qi Jiu was right here, sleeping.
Sleeping so openly during class, sprawled on her desk so brazenly, even covered with her uniform jacket, making her incredibly conspicuous—yet the teacher and students all acted as if they didn’t see her!
Was this really the poor, bullied girl, and not the female school tyrant no one dared to mess with?
Author's Notes
Yue Du: ???
Yue Du: Did I get the wrong world script???
Qi Jiu (completely unfazed): zzz
