SCOM - Chapter 109
Chapter 109
The short-haired woman attacked suddenly, deliberately drawing Zuo Luohuan's attention to the corpses before instantly stabbing her with a dagger.
Even Zuo Luohuan didn't have time to react fully, let alone the surrounding team members.
The dagger was incredibly sharp, capable of wounding without much force, yet the short-haired woman used her full strength. Zuo Luohuan only managed to twist her body slightly, but the dagger still plunged halfway in.
As the cold, sharp blade pierced her chest, Zuo Luohuan, expressionless, grabbed the woman's hand to stop the dagger from going any deeper. With her other hand, she seized the woman's throat and lifted her clean off the ground.
The short-haired woman choked, the whites of her eyes rolling back, but Zuo Luohuan didn't miss her pupils shifting into vertical slits.
This was a Gashiro.
Some of the surrounding team members closed in, while others aimed their light guns at the civilians they had just rescued, fearing they might all be from the Gashiro Empire.
Zuo Luohuan snapped the woman's hand that held the dagger, threw her aside, and then pulled the blade out. A team member immediately came over with a healing agent.
The dagger had gone in most of the way; any closer and it would have struck her heart. Fortunately, Zuo Luohuan had shifted her body.
"Capture her first," Zuo Luohuan said, taking the healing agent. She sprayed it on her wound, temporarily stopping the bleeding. Looking up at the panicked civilians, she told her team, "Secure the area. Bring over food and water."
By now, the team members were wary of the civilians. While there might not be any more Gashiro among them, they would remain cautious.
"Also, a few of you, go after the other teams. Warn them to be careful of Gashiro hiding among the civilians," Zuo Luohuan said, clutching her wound as she pointed out about ten people.
Although the bleeding from her chest wound was temporarily stopped, they had only come to scout and hadn't brought many medical supplies. Zuo Luohuan's wound wasn't healing quickly.
"The underground shelter should have comprehensive medical supplies," a team member stepped forward and said. "I'll go get them."
"Take a few more people with you. Contact us if anything happens." Zuo Luohuan tossed them the optical computer she had just taken. Her face had turned pale, but that was all. There were no other signs of distress, as if the stab wound had little effect on her.
The residential area wasn't far from the port to begin with. By the time the people Zuo Luohuan sent returned, Jiang Hong had already finished his report.
"Why are you back?" Jiang Hong asked with a frown when he saw them.
The team member immediately repeated Zuo Luohuan's words.
Ji Yuezhi looked at them. "Who was ambushed?"
Jiang Hong also turned to look at them. Such a sudden warning meant something must have happened.
"..." The team member hesitated. Zuo Luohuan hadn't said to tell them, so they weren't sure if they should.
Seeing their silence, Ji Yuezhi guessed what had happened, his heart sinking. "They attacked Zuo Luohuan?"
"So far, there's only one Gashiro among the civilians," one team member explained instinctively, only to get his foot stepped on by the person next to him.
"Luohuan should be fine," Jiang Hong said to Ji Yuezhi. "No one can hurt her."
That's what he said, but Jiang Hong remembered that Zuo Luohuan had already taken off her skeletal mech before he left.
"Continue," Ji Yuezhi said to the team member who had just spoken up.
"...That person stabbed Captain Zuo in the chest with a dagger, but she managed to stop it from going any deeper."
Another team member quickly added, "Captain Zuo used a healing agent right away. It looks like it didn't hit her heart."
"The teams that were just assigned can leave now. Be wary of Gashiro hiding among the civilians," Ji Yuezhi said calmly, suppressing his emotions. "Also, no team is to remove their skeletal mech unless absolutely necessary."
The ones leading teams to rescue residents were Jiang Hong, Xiang Chengping, Cha Lili, and Yan Yan. They prepared to depart quickly.
Just then, Qian Mao ran over, his face flushed with excitement. "General Captain, we did it!"
Qian Mao took out a few spheres and smashed them on the ground. Fourth-generation robot dogs instantly appeared, and Luo Shaoyuan and the others nearby almost attacked him.
"Don't get excited! These ones aren't aggressive," Qian Mao said quickly, raising his hands.
Luo Shaoyuan looked at the fourth-generation robot dogs. Sure enough, their red eyes were blinking as if they were stuck, and they didn't immediately attack.
"The professors have been sending us their research on the robot dogs. The fourth-generation ones were likely made by Gashiro to test their compression technology. Their chips have a vulnerability, and we've exploited it." Qian Mao pulled a black, basketball-sized cube from his bag. He pointed to a button on it. "Take this with you. Press the red button, and it will interfere with the fourth-generation robot dogs. You won't have to worry about them launching sneak attacks and harming civilians."
"How many are there?" Ji Yuezhi asked, getting to the crucial point.
"This is the first one I made. If you wait another ten minutes or so, the weapons department will send more over," Qian Mao said. "We've made about... fifteen in total."
"Tell us what materials you need, and we'll find them for you." Ji Yuezhi bent down and picked up one of the stalled fourth-generation robot dogs. "The more of these jammers, the better."
"Understood." Qian Mao couldn't hide his excitement either. Although they had only exploited one vulnerability, it would be immensely helpful for decrypting the robot dog chips in the future.
The teams leaving the port were now all equipped with these jammers. They moved swiftly through the night to rescue the captured civilians of the capital.
Ji Yuezhi stood on the observation tower, his usually bright and beautiful eyes now somewhat dim.
After applying the medicine, Zuo Luohuan paid no more mind to the wound. The pain was nothing compared to what she had endured before. However, with the dagger having passed so close to her heart, her chest felt uncomfortable.
Just as she finished getting the civilians settled, Zuo Luohuan was met by Xiang Chengping.
"Senior?" Zuo Luohuan was a bit surprised, wondering why he had come over.
"My team was heading in this direction, so I came over with your team members. How's your injury?" Xiang Chengping took out a jammer. "This is from the weapons department. It can interfere with the fourth-generation robot dogs."
"It's nothing serious." Zuo Luohuan took it. "Press this button? This is good stuff."
"The port is too far from the capital's central district and the First Military Academy," Xiang Chengping said with some worry. "I don't know what's happened at the academy."
"We'll wait for daylight," Zuo Luohuan said. "First, we control the surrounding area."
There were still a few hours until dawn. Before then, they had to rescue as many people from the residential areas as possible.
"I'll be going now," Xiang Chengping said. "Yan Yan is just outside the residential complex. He's in charge of gathering these civilians."
Zuo Luohuan nodded. "In that case, I'll lead them out."
To gather all these people in the middle of the night while guarding against Gashiro infiltrators, Yan Yan had brought over a thousand people—nearly the total number of deployed team members.
Zuo Luohuan and her team surrounded the civilians and led them out. Fortunately, everyone cooperated, making no unnecessary noise, but the team members did not let down their guard.
"Senior." Yan Yan came forward and greeted Zuo Luohuan when he saw her.
"Where are you gathering everyone?" Zuo Luohuan asked.
"We're setting up a temporary encampment near the port." Yan Yan pointed to the large tents behind him. "The General Captain said that by tomorrow morning, the Gashiro in the capital will know we've arrived."
Zuo Luohuan wasn't surprised. She said, "Senior Xiang just headed in the direction I came from. I'm going to make a trip to the First Military Academy."
They needed reinforcements.
Isn't that common sense my first thought of them guarding something means that there's multiple gashiro and traps inside and that even if they had hostages they would be mixed in I wouldn't take off my whole Mec I would just show my face But what if they had a gun and shot her so dumb That it's a plothole
