SCOM - Chapter 100
Chapter 100
Luo Shaoyuan ate and ate, only turning back when she saw sweat on An Yingjing's forehead, finally deciding to enter a restaurant.
She had grown up on the frontier without parents and didn't often visit such high-end restaurants. She felt a bit awkward upon entering, but An Yingjing directly took her hand and walked inside.
"You don't even know what to do when dating?" An Yingjing said, quite displeased.
"Well..." Luo Shaoyuan's gaze drifted. "Aren't you just teasing me? Besides, an Alpha can't just casually hold an Omega's hand."
An Yingjing squeezed Luo Shaoyuan's hand tightly. "I'm just a casual Omega, is that not allowed?"
"It is." Luo Shaoyuan didn't struggle, letting him hold her hand.
A waiter led them to a private room on the second floor. An Yingjing turned to look upstairs; he thought he had just seen the leader of one of the Western Region's army groups.
It wasn't surprising. This was the most upscale restaurant in the vicinity, so it was normal for such people to dine here.
"What are you looking at?" Luo Shaoyuan leaned over, also looking upstairs.
"Let's go." An Yingjing nudged her with his elbow, signaling for them to enter the private room together.
An Yingjing ordered a table full of dishes, but he barely ate anything himself, watching Luo Shaoyuan eat the entire time.
"I never even took you to see the Northern Region," Luo Shaoyuan said, finally looking up after burying her head in her food for a long time. Her stomach seemed to be a bottomless pit.
They had spent half a year in the Northern Region, training in a valley the whole time, never once going out.
"We'll go in the future." An Yingjing propped his chin on his hand and used the serving chopsticks to place a piece of crab meat on her plate. "What else do you want to eat?"
"I'll be full after this," Luo Shaoyuan said. "We can take a walk later to help with digestion."
Luo Shaoyuan devoured the entire table of food like a whirlwind. She deliberately sat for a while longer, and only when she saw the sweat on An Yingjing's temples had dried did she get up to leave.
The corners of An Yingjing's mouth curled up. "Are you worried I was tired?"
Although he was an Omega, he had no problem running around in a skeletal mech. How could he get tired so easily?
Luo Shaoyuan said in a gruff voice, "You're so annoying. Let's go."
The two walked out of the private room. As Luo Shaoyuan reached the staircase and was about to go down, she suddenly looked up and pulled An Yingjing back.
"What's wrong?" An Yingjing was confused.
"There's the smell of blood!" Luo Shaoyuan had caught a very faint scent of blood coming from upstairs.
An Yingjing frowned. "Let's go check."
The two moved silently. By now, An Yingjing could also smell the blood. They quickly patrolled the corridor.
Luo Shaoyuan was in the lead. She suddenly turned and gestured for An Yingjing to be careful as she approached a half-open private room door.
Inside the room, people were strewn about haphazardly, each lying in a pool of blood.
"The one in the middle is the leader of this city's army group." An Yingjing walked forward, turned over a body, and looked at the person's face.
He then lowered his head and quickly began to summon his team.
This city's army group was not large. Compared to the Western United Army, the largest in the Western Region, they were at most protectors of public order within the city, usually only responsible for the safety of the populace.
"Notify your team members to assemble." A sense of foreboding rose in An Yingjing's heart. He wanted to contact Ji Yuezhi on the border.
Just then, something suddenly leaped from one of the bodies on the floor, attacking An Yingjing's neck directly.
"Watch out!"
Without thinking, Luo Shaoyuan reached out to block it. Her arm was instantly slashed open, the wound extremely deep.
An Yingjing reflexively drew his light gun and fired at the thing, but he quickly realized there was more than one in the room. They escaped through the window and began attacking the crowd below.
"What is that?" Luo Shaoyuan watched as those things jumped down and slit the throats of passersby.
"Robot dogs," An Yingjing said, recognizing the silver-white shadows.
"You contact the captain, I'll go down and save people." The moment Luo Shaoyuan jumped from the third floor, she donned her skeletal mech and rushed directly into the crowd.
Those things scattered, chasing after the crowd, and they liked to cling to people's necks. Even when Luo Shaoyuan saw them, she couldn't easily open fire.
However, by the time she got close, the person had already been killed.
"General Captain, there's trouble in the city! Extremely small robot dogs have appeared." After quickly sending the message, An Yingjing also jumped down.
This was the second message Ji Yuezhi received. Before this, Xiang Chengping had already called, but the communication was forced to end after only a brief twenty seconds.
"They've developed a new machine again?" Jiang Hong's face was grim. "We need to go provide rescue."
Ji Yuezhi stood before the border defense line and, after a moment, shook his head. "We're not going. Notify everyone on the border to pay attention to all movements outside the wall."
...
In an alley on the other side, Xiang Chengping, clad in a skeletal mech, was running nonstop. He was covered in blood, which he had gotten on a specialty street earlier.
After getting out of the car and parting ways with Luo Shaoyuan, he and his team members had gone to explore a famous specialty street in the city. His team consisted of over a thousand people, all using light guns, considered the most ordinary unit separated from Ji Yuezhi's forces.
About a hundred people were with Xiang Chengping, and another two hundred or so were also on that street, while the others had scattered to different locations.
The street was packed with people. Xiang Chengping walked and stopped, occasionally pausing at a stall to buy something interesting.
A parent holding a child was standing in front of him, looking at some items. The child, draped over the parent's shoulder, giggled at Xiang Chengping.
Next to Xiang Chengping was a cotton candy stall. He bought one on a whim and was about to hand it to the child.
"Quick, say thank you to the big brother," the parent said, holding the child.
With the cotton candy still in his hand, Xiang Chengping's attention was mostly on the child. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a person behind the parent stop and suddenly pull out a palm-sized sphere.
Ever since they started training with skeletal mechs, they had become more sensitive to spheres. But this was a public street, surrounded by ordinary people. A strange feeling crossed Xiang Chengping's mind, but he didn't overthink it, merely dedicating a bit more of his attention.
In that instant, the person slammed the sphere onto the ground. As it hit the floor, it transformed into a palm-sized, silver-white robot dog.
Xiang Chengping's pupils contracted. He subconsciously let go of the cotton candy, reflexively donned his skeletal mech, and reached out to pull the parent over.
But he was a step too late. Blood splattered onto the fluffy white cotton candy before it hit the ground.
By the time Xiang Chengping reached out to hold the child, he had missed his chance. The palm-sized robot dog was already attacking others.
Xiang Chengping handed the child to a team member behind him and shouted for the members on the street to disperse the crowd.
More people were smashing spheres. Each one that hit the ground quickly transformed into a robot dog. These palm-sized machines, armed with only a dagger, specifically targeted people's carotid arteries.
"Go!" Xiang Chengping told everyone to leave the street. He locked onto one of the people smashing spheres and chased after them, simultaneously contacting his other team members.
...
At a crossroads, Zuo Luohuan clung to a building with one hand and drew the light gun from her waist with the other. In that instant, time seemed to stop before her eyes; only the bullet firing from her gun moved.
A new type of robot dog was clinging to a person's neck. The moment it used its thumb-sized dagger to slice the carotid artery, it was shot through.
...At the same time, the person whose carotid artery was cut was also shot through the neck by the light gun.
In a corner of the street, a pair of leather shoes stepped on a white bag. The person looked at Zuo Luohuan, who had fired without hesitation, and a cryptic smile appeared on his face. "She's more ruthless than I imagined."
He looked down at the bag under his foot, bent over to pick it up, and took out the sealed box inside.
The sealed box, which should have been password-protected, was opened with ease by this person. He looked at the two plain white rings inside the red box, and the smile on his face grew wider. "Interesting."
Not everyone in the panicking, fleeing crowd had seen the robot dogs. They only knew that people's necks were being slit, with blood spraying high into the air.
But Zuo Luohuan was wearing a black skeletal mech and firing from a building. The public thought she was the one responsible and frantically fled, avoiding her.
Zuo Luohuan's gaze swept over the people who had fallen and were being trampled, but she didn't go down. She was alone and needed to deal with the robot dogs first.
After firing the first shot, any new robot dog she saw, as soon as it leaped from a person, would inevitably be met with a bullet.
However, the city's army group gradually began to arrive in scattered numbers and opened fire on her, which Zuo Luohuan found incredibly annoying.
Currently, only the border army knew about skeletal mechs. The general public had no chance to encounter them and mistook her for a Gashiro soldier.
Zuo Luohuan leaped onto a streetlight, raising a hand to block the incoming bullets. "I am Zuo Luohuan from the First Military Academy. Get your people out of here now, don't waste those useless bullets."
She didn't have time to worry about what the city's army group was thinking. The next second, she rushed downward. At close range, she had no need to fire.
Just before a new robot dog could leap onto a passerby's neck, Zuo Luohuan kicked the person away and grabbed the palm-sized robot dog.
Its dagger could damage a skeletal mech.
Zuo Luohuan released her grip, drew her curved blade with her other hand, and just as it was about to escape, she sliced the palm-sized robot dog in half.
It didn't explode.
That made sense. Its size was too small; sacrifices had to be made.
Zuo Luohuan's gaze swept over her scratched palm, then she turned to look back at the intersection she came from. Her expression suddenly darkened; the white bag that had fallen was gone.
The crowd hadn't scattered in that direction, and... she thought she had heard someone laughing.
"Zuo Luohuan!"
She looked toward the source of the voice and saw several team members in skeletal mechs. Judging by the insignia on their arms, they should be from Xiang Chengping's team.
"What's the situation now?" Zuo Luohuan looked back at the now-empty street and asked them.
"We encountered a type of small robot dog at the intersection ahead. They specialize in cutting people's arteries. The captain is in trouble too, and he's telling us to assemble."
At that moment, the city's alarm suddenly blared: 【Enemy attack, enemy attack! Residents, please follow the safety arrows to take shelter immediately.】
The once-bustling street quickly emptied as everyone headed underground.
"Follow me to the underground escape zone," Zuo Luohuan said.
After a moment of hesitation, the few of them quickly followed Zuo Luohuan.
Zuo Luohuan kept trying to call Luo Shaoyuan and An Yingjing's optical computers. Finally, An Yingjing answered.
"You have twenty minutes to assemble and escort the residents to transfer underground." Zuo Luohuan looked up and reported her location. "Also, the daggers of those new robot dogs can damage skeletal mechs. Tell everyone to be careful."
Skeletal mechs were made from a mixture of silver-blue and other materials. Zuo Luohuan suspected the robot dogs were made of similar materials, which was why they could also cut through the mechs, though it required a certain amount of time and the right angle.
"Zuo Luohuan," An Yingjing called out, "the border..."
"He'll take care of it." With that, Zuo Luohuan hung up the communication.
