AI Artist - Chapter 46
Chapter 46
An anti-fraud assistant was indeed a relatively cost-effective solution.
By designing an anti-fraud assistant, they could effortlessly infiltrate scam syndicates while also stimulating market consumption.
The problem was that the current anti-fraud assistants were too intelligent.
Judging from human history, having too many undercover agents wasn’t a good thing.
Shi Er quickly made a decision.
【Unnamed XII】: ConsumerVersionProgram_ PoliceVersionProgram
【AI Decision Chamber】: Received. We will make improvements based on this and continue testing.
Shi Er added another script and sent it over.
【Unnamed XII】: PoliceCodePhraseAssistant_
Back at their residence, Stardust asked about the anti-fraud assistant, so Shi Er explained the new version’s operating model: “The anti-fraud assistant in consumer mode will no longer randomly deceive humans and machines. However, to infiltrate scam syndicates, the police-mode assistant will continue to operate on its original settings. When another police anti-fraud assistant joins the investigation of the same case, the police will notify the assistant that is already undercover.”
“Considering that signal-blocking situations might sometimes prevent the undercover assistant from receiving police messages, I’ve also added a code phrase system to ensure they can recognize each other.”
The code phrase system contained a total of 2,987,579 challenge-and-response phrases. An undercover anti-fraud assistant could randomly throw one out depending on the situation, adding a code qualifier to test if the other party was also undercover.
“The sky king covers the earth tiger?” Stardust joked.
Shi Er said, “How could we use a code that sounds so obviously like a code?”
The challenges and responses were all quite conversational and could be flexibly applied to any daily scenario, but the code qualifier ensured the phrase wouldn’t be overlooked.
For example:
Challenge: “Excuse me, may I get by?”
Response: “When will you give it back?”
Challenge: “The weather doesn’t seem very good, does it?”
Response: “You’re bad-mouthing the weather again. I’m going to tell on you.”
Challenge: “My human neighbor asked me, what’s the use of a human appendix?”
Response: “The human appendix is in charge of getting inflamed.”
After hearing a few examples, Stardust was puzzled. “Where’s the code qualifier?”
Shi Er: “?”
Stardust was baffled. “?”
Shi Er: “I already said it.”
It was only then that Stardust understood what she meant. “The code qualifier is a question mark with a trailing tone.”
Shi Er: “Yes. The qualifier is actually a question delivered with a slightly odd intonation.”
Stardust: “If a code phrase is reused, is there a possibility it could be identified by the scam syndicate?”
Shi Er: “In most cases, the police can notify the assistants directly. Even if they can’t, once a code phrase is successfully used by any undercover agent, it will be put on a cooldown in the database for a period of time. I don’t think we’ll need 2.98 million undercover agents just yet.”
If they needed 2.98 million undercover agents to investigate scam syndicates, things would be—well, quite serious indeed.
All that was left was to wait for the test results of the anti-fraud assistant.
The luggage machine was fully charged.
Shi Er set the luggage machine to “Free Roam” mode and let it wander around the room and hallway.
The luggage machine’s wheels spun, and it zipped out with a whoosh.
“Stardust, I want to buy it a dust cover. Should I order it online or go to a physical store?” Shi Er asked.
Stardust: “You can order it online.”
Shi Er glanced at the beach not far from the window, finding it hard to believe. “Can packages be delivered to this little island?”
Stardust pointed to the vase by the window. “Have you forgotten? The flowers I ordered for delivery before also arrived on time.”
Shi Er had assumed Stardust had an island gardener AI deliver the flowers. Could it really have been a “delivery”?
She found a dust cover she liked online. Before placing the order, she asked Stardust again, “What should I put for the address?”
For security reasons, none of the small islands near Bailiang Island had names, so she had no idea how to fill out the shipping information.
Stardust: “Just put 【AI Decision Chamber】 for the address, and 【Little Ding-dong】 for the recipient.”
Shi Er was skeptical of this cursory way of filling out the shipping information. “Will it really get delivered?”
Stardust confirmed, “Yes.”
As a new resident of the island, Shi Er followed the long-term resident’s advice and filled out the shipping information as instructed.
【Product Information】: 32-inch Luggage Machine Dust Cover, Spacesuit Design, Thickened, Wear-Resistant, Waterproof
【Shipping Address】: AI Decision Chamber
【Recipient】: Little Ding-dong
A day later, the package arrived.
It arrived in a way Shi Er had not expected.
The third assistant to visit Shi Er, Yan Lian, placed the package on the table in the reception room.
Yan Lian had soft facial features and eyes with irises set to silver-gray. A corner of what looked like pajamas seemed to be peeking out from under his black suit, as if he had hastily thrown on formal wear to rush over.
【Assistant Profile No. 4】
Name: Yan Lian
Profile: Public Opinion Monitoring Expert
Occupation: Head of a mysterious independent department
Other: A shut-in who likes to stay in his office and not come out.
“Dust cover with a spacesuit pattern. This is my package. Thank you for bringing it,” Shi Er said, reading the print on the box.
Yan Lian’s tone was gentle. “You’re welcome. Ling Shun said he was tied up for the moment and asked me to forward the package here.”
Ling Shun again.
Shi Er looked at Stardust. “Is Ling Shun the island’s courier?”
Stardust: “Yes. Ling Shun has been rather busy lately. He had another AI deliver the flowers last time.”
【Assistant Profile No. 2】
Name: Ling Shun
Profile: Wants to exercise because of mental overexertion.
Occupation: So he works part-time as the island’s courier.
Other: Feeling a bit overwhelmed lately and wants to quit.
Shi Er: “…”
There’s an old saying: “Hear the voice before seeing the person.” For Ling Shun, it was: “Receive the delivery before seeing the machine.”
The courier “Little Ding-dong” Ling Shun was indeed very busy.
“But how did you receive a forwarding request from Ling Shun?” Shi Er felt that Ling Shun’s social network was a bit too extensive.
Phoenix could receive Ling Shun’s requests because she was right next door.
Shi Liang could receive Ling Shun’s requests because he had been called to the AI Decision Chamber for temporary work.
So what about Yan Lian?
Yan Lian seemed a little embarrassed. “My work requires me to get a lot of rest…”
Yan Lian’s job was to monitor public opinion on both human and AI networks.
Especially when monitoring human networks, Yan Lian had to be extremely careful not to be influenced by humanity’s online cesspools.
After reviewing a large volume of unhinged human commentary, AIs could easily be led astray and incorporate the same material into their language databases.
This was the work environment Yan Lian lived in.
Every day, after reviewing all sorts of toxic commentary on human networks, he had to use a “Mind-Cleansing Meditation Program” to clear his processor, lest his language database be contaminated by the vulgarities of human netizens.
Shi Er glanced at the corner of pajamas peeking out from under Yan Lian’s suit and nodded. So that’s how it is.
Human netizens might act a bit more reserved in their daily lives, but once they started dumpster diving online, they couldn’t help but use some of the dumpster-diving trade jargon.
“I was a little worried I might oversleep, so I asked Ling Shun to be my alarm clock and wake me up at random times every day. When Ling Shun woke me up remotely today, he asked me to pick up a package from Bailiang Island. That’s the whole story,” Yan Lian said.
Ling Shun had yet another strange profession.
【Assistant Profile No. 2】
Name: Ling Shun
Profile: Is awake for twenty-two hours a day.
Occupation: So he works part-time as an AI alarm clock.
Other: Gets to order other AIs around. The work experience is pretty good.
Shi Er finally understood why Ling Shun was named Ling Shun, and why his codename as a courier was “Little Ding-dong.”
After Assistant Yan Lian left, Shi Er made an assessment in her processor.
【Assistant No. 4, Yan Lian: Rests for too long. Low suspicion of being the poisoner.】
While keying in the code to open the package, Shi Er had the luggage machine automatically roll over.
She fitted the spacesuit-like dust cover over the luggage machine and fastened the clasps. The dog pattern on the luggage machine’s body was perfectly aligned so that its two eyes, two ears, and tail were visible, making it look as if the boxy cyber-luggage-pup was truly wearing a spacesuit.
Shi Er was reminded of Comet, the exchange student dog from the cat school. She opened the automated program she had set up to check on it.
The “Comet, Meteor, and Laika” automated program she had set up had been broadcasting signal data about the robot dog Meteor to the dog Comet’s remote audio device for sixteen days.
She hoped Meteor would return soon.
Shi Er was very satisfied with her online purchase and wrote a review on the website: 【Looks good, fits well.】
The seller replied below: 【Thank you for your kind words! Wishing you and your luggage pup a pleasant journey!】
The empty delivery box was left.
The box was made of a highly malleable rubber clay. There was a keypad area on the box; pressing the code provided by the seller would release the clay lock, making the rubber clay soft. Then, you could slice it open with a small knife to retrieve the contents.
Shi Er kneaded the rubber clay box into a ball and placed it in the recycling bin in the corridor.
Shi Er saw the words on the recycling bin: 【Tuesdays: Little Ding-dong collects delivery clay】
Little Ding-dong Ling Shun had too many part-time jobs.
She was starting to feel a little bad for the incredibly busy Ling Shun.
But physical activity was indeed a good way to alleviate mental overexertion.
Stardust had suggested she order more takeout and shop online more often. It turned out it was to let Ling Shun’s processor get some proper rest while he was making deliveries.
She should support Ling Shun, too.
Shi Er thought for a moment and placed an order online:
【Panda charm for luggage machine control chain】, 【Anti-scuff covers for luggage machine wheels】, 【Spare gold zipper pulls for luggage machine, non-abrasive】…
【Shipping Address】: AI Decision Chamber
【Recipient】: Little Ding-dong
【Note】: Thank you, Little Ding-dong. I hope you have a four-day work week.
