Chapter 96: Commentary

"Our team's two young members are very outstanding."

Liliana took a step back. "Speak."

The man said, "We've invited you back this time hoping you could serve as commentator for this match."

"Ridiculous!" Liliana flew into a rage, berating the tall man before her: "You dragged me back from my vacation for such a meaningless matter? That Xia Yanfeng's shameless spectacle of a match actually wants me to commentate for her? Do you think I have time to humor her performance?"

Liliana refused outright: "Impossible!"

The man said, "This time, it's indeed not an official request, but we hope you'll consider it."

Liliana sat down on a nearby chair, visibly annoyed. "Not going."

The man remained motionless, still facing the floor-to-ceiling window. "Ancestor?"

Liliana lifted her eyelids. "Kneel and call me ancestor."

The man would genuinely kneel before her right now.

Liliana continued, "I'm still not going."

The man: "..."

"Colonel Liliana, I'm merely relaying a message. I hope you'll treat this seriously," the man said. "Even if it's simulated, it's still a battlefield. Aren't you on vacation right now? What I mean to say is, if Ms. Xia continues developing like this, she might truly enter the military. As the public face, she certainly won't start as a low-ranking officer."

Liliana said, "You're comparing her to the Expeditionary Force fighting tooth and nail on the frontlines? This pains me deeply. Now just playing on Sanyao and earning points counts as military achievements? How wonderful—Sanyao has achieved universal peace."

The man reminded her, "She's contributed to military publicity, and she does have a legitimate profession, Colonel Liliana."

"If she continued with her legitimate profession instead of exploiting her fame to claim honors she doesn't deserve, then I would respect her profession, Lieutenant Yang," Liliana raised a hand and said solemnly. "This is unfair to others. Perhaps there are many injustices in this world, but I cannot tolerate buried warriors who fought to their deaths being humiliated by such behavior."

Liliana rested a hand on the armrest, visibly irritated. "I don't know what those military officials are thinking. Letting this situation continue will only breed a tumor in our military circles. Do they realize how many people this foolishness will affect?"

The man straightened his back and nodded. "That's a tumor the military itself nurtured. We all share responsibility."

Liliana: "What responsibility do I have?"

The man: "Collateral responsibility."

Liliana narrowed her eyes at him. "Lieutenant Yang, I hope you understand that sitting here because of some absurd woman has already put me in a terrible mood. Don't remind me of this matter again."

The man turned and saluted her. "If you don't approve of her, then you should attend this match even more."

Liliana: "Why?"

The man said, "Zhou Lion's team, and the people he's chosen. You should trust him."

Liliana snorted. "I'd trust him more if he hadn't left the military over some foolishness."

"Zhou Lion said the two young members in their team are exceptionally outstanding. The Expeditionary Force is always short on people—he hopes you won't miss this opportunity. Waiting until next year might be too late," the man said. "Moreover, if you can't stand Ms. Xia, then steal her spotlight. Nothing would be better than making her lose."

Liliana: "Me commentating will make her lose?"

The man: "No. You commentating will make her lose more miserably. You know Ms. Xia has some... unsavory habits when competing."

Liliana leaned back in her chair without responding.

Planting spies wasn't uncommon in casual matches among Sanyao's amateur players. While despicable, it made for exciting matches, and there was no shortage of people toeing the line for mischief. However, in the eyes of military cadets and soldiers, this was something shameful.

Ultimately, it came down to differing levels of seriousness toward the matter.

"Nothing is more convincing and silencing than your sarcasm, Colonel Liliana," the man said. "Please oversee the match's fairness."

Indeed. But if they lost the match, nothing would be more humiliating than her mockery.

After a moment of silence, Liliana narrowed her eyes. "If they lose in the end, I'll tear them apart myself."

Not long after, Liliana's official account released news: If Lian Sheng won her match against Xia Yanfeng, she would personally serve as sponsor and fully support their project to promote ancient martial arts.

Sanyao exploded.

That Liliana would pay attention to such a private match—didn't this prove Xia Yanfeng's fame from another angle?

People speculated wildly. Were the rumors about Xia Yanfeng transferring to the military actually true?

The Alliance University administration was even more shocked.

Liliana or Xia Yanfeng—who to choose?

Oh, this wasn't even a choice.

For Xia Yanfeng, this was just one of her many publicity stunts. But for Liliana, this was a significant proposal directed at the military.

The department head patted Lian Sheng's shoulder meaningfully. "Student Lian Sheng, you must work hard and prepare well. Although the match is during vacation, we can provide any assistance you need at any time."

Lian Sheng sighed. "But I still have final exams to review for. Time is always so tight."

The department head said, "The pursuit of knowledge is good, but reviving ancient culture—such a meaningful endeavor—shouldn't be treated lightly either."

Lian Sheng: "Life always presents many difficult either-or situations... Standing at a crossroads, one comes to understand. Sometimes, reality and dreams simply don't intersect."

"..." The department head said, "We'll add another ten points to your score. If you still can't pass like this, Student Lian Sheng, I'll approve you repeating the year."

Lian Sheng smiled. "Thank you for your understanding."
