First Battlefield Commander! - Chapter 106

Chapter 106

Chapter 106: Home Base

He glanced at the time.

Though the battle had seen several reversals, with them falling from the clouds into the mud, less than two hours had actually passed.

Less than two hours—in a real battle, thousands would already be dead or wounded.

The battlefield has always been cruel.

Xia Yanfeng suddenly asked, "Do you think I'm suited to be a commander?"

"If you're willing, perhaps." The vice commander turned his head and gave her a dry smile. "But as things stand now, it seems you won't get the chance."

The vice commander stood up and stretched his limbs. "Let's wait. Now it's just a matter of comparing combat strength."

The elite soldiers of the company faced off against the enemy's garrison troops, with officers taking the lead while hiding in safe spots, slowly adjusting their rifle stances.

Their side had at least two guns per person as standard equipment—in terms of firepower, there was no way the enemy could match them.

"Times like these make me want to light a cigarette," Bright Bulb said, slinging two guns over his shoulder. "Even though I've never smoked."

"We'll clear that street straight to the signal tower. Everyone on this road—we'll take them out one by one." Bright Bulb pointed ahead, then singled out Zhao Zhuoluo. "Those two up front are trouble, blocking the way. Come with me as bait—let's clear a path first."

Zhao Zhuoluo nodded, scanning ahead to confirm the next safe point and the distance and route between them.

Bright Bulb counted down for him: "1... 2... 3!"

The two leaped out from behind the wall simultaneously. With the posture and explosive power of cheetahs, they rolled across the ground and took cover again.

The enemy soldiers opposite all peeked out and opened fire. Dense beams of light chased after them, striking the ground. Fang Jianchen seized the moment, took aim, and fired two shots.

Bright Bulb crouched behind a trash can and glanced at his arm. The fabric there had been torn open, but he wasn't injured.

"Tsk tsk tsk," Bright Bulb said. "Who trained you guys in marksmanship? Send your best up front first. What kind of half-assed performance is this?"

"Damn it!" someone on the other side cursed.

Too fast. Even with rapid-fire guns, if you can't keep up with the target's movement, it's all pointless. Energy guns couldn't fire continuously like machine guns—if you missed twice, you were basically done.

Fang Jianchen watched, itching to join. To him, the coolest moments were brushing past bullets—that tension of dancing on the edge of death paired with a careless expression was straight out of a movie. Restless, he asked, "Can I go too?"

"Haven't you died enough? Not happy unless you die in every match?" Cheng Ze said. "Snipers, focus on your own targets!"

Ye Buqing hoisted his signature billboard forward. Nearly every billboard and trash can on the map had been dismantled by them.

He rolled the heavy billboard forward with a thud.

A muffled sound rang out. The Xia team instinctively opened fire in a barrage. By the time they realized what it was and started lowering their guns, Ye Buqing had already dashed out. When they tried to shoot again, their gun barrels were too hot to handle.

And so, with the vanguard leading the way, everyone found their positions and advanced using their own methods.

During the one-minute cooldown period for the guns, they baited the enemy into wasting shots early, causing their firepower to noticeably weaken later. Lacking experience, the enemy clearly didn't know how to manage their ammunition.

The gap in individual combat skills between the two sides was simply too wide. Lian Sheng's team had everything—bait, cover, snipers—all roles filled. The enemy kept falling into their traps, then falling into them again.

The audience found it hard to watch.

"This is the most satisfying gunfight I've ever seen, seriously."

"Bright Bulb points and says: 'Come, brother, let's claim this street for the Great General.'"

"They claimed the street faster than I expected."

"An overwhelming victory. God, I want to see the Xia team's desperate struggle before death."

"I doubt there'll even be a final rallying moment in this victory?"

"Obviously. Look at this stacked lineup, then look at theirs. How many capable people does the Xia team even have? And they're all mixed together haphazardly, dragging each other down—it's almost touching."

They cleared a straight path to the signal tower. The Xia team soldiers guarding the adjacent street, seeing this, nearly gave up resisting.

The enemy's signal tower location was fixed, but the commander's position could move.

Lian Sheng walked up to the signal tower but didn't see Xia Yanfeng or her vice commander. The two must have been hiding somewhere nearby.

One shot here, and the match would be over.

Lian Sheng looked at the machine and said, "I wanted to see Xia Yanfeng one more time. Guess I won't get the chance."

Super Bright Bulb said, "No big deal. Want me to help you find her? I'm great at tracking people."

Lian Sheng quickly asked, "Senior Ji, Senior Ji, how much longer can you hold out over there?"

Ji Fangxiao replied breezily, "An hour or so."

After all, they had numbers and home-field advantage.

"Then here's the plan. You two stay here and wait for either Ji Fangxiao's signal or mine." Lian Sheng said, "When I say 'bang,' you fire."

Fang Jianchen scoffed. "Is this even fun?"

Lian Sheng nodded. "Yes."

Bright Bulb grinned. "Let's go, let's go find her."

It felt like parents showing up to confront a misbehaving child.

Meanwhile, in a dimly lit basement nearby...

Xia Yanfeng asked, "Are they here yet?"

"Probably." The vice commander watched as the numbers on the map dwindled rapidly until only a small area near the signal tower remained, devoid of allies. He knew the battle was lost.

The vice commander glanced outside, picked up a nearby gun, and prepared to check the situation. Halfway there, a gun barrel appeared at the door. His pupils contracted—he was already hit and collapsed.

Xia Yanfeng stared in shock at the doorway.

"Well, well." Lian Sheng walked in, holding a still-warm gun. "Hello."

Xia Yanfeng instinctively raised her own gun, but a shot from Lian Sheng's side struck it, sending the weapon flying.

"Don't be so tense. The match is practically over—let's have a peaceful chat." Lian Sheng tossed aside her energy gun, then removed her helmet and rolled up her sleeves, beckoning with a finger. "Weren't you interested in ancient martial arts? Why not experience it firsthand?"

Xia Yanfeng frowned. "What do you mean?"

Lian Sheng dropped into a horse stance and shook her head. "Nothing much. I just wanted a legal, regulation-compliant way to slap you hard in the face."

Xia Yanfeng snorted. She tossed aside her helmet, stepped forward, and raised her fists in a sparring stance.
