Our Love, A Public Service - Chapter 93
Chapter 93: Wen-Ning
Ning Qian returned to live in L City two years later.
She had secured an opportunity to be transferred to the branch company. For her, this was a win-win situation: on one hand, it was a promotion and a raise; on the other hand, she could finally end her long-distance relationship with Wen Jin.
After confirming their relationship, they had been in a long-distance relationship for a full two years, which was truly trying.
As soon as she got off the plane, Ning Qian retrieved her luggage and hurried off. At the familiar airport, she quickly navigated through the crowd, soon finding the gaze that had been fixed on her.
Just like every time she came to L City, Wen Jin would be waiting for her at the airport in advance, holding a bouquet of flowers.
Ning Qian saw Wen Jin from afar, her smile radiant, and her heart began to pound like crazy—Wen Jin always stood out in a crowd, gentle and captivating, especially when flowers complemented her smile.
Wen Jin's steps were equally hurried.
They hadn't seen each other for half a year. Unexpectedly, upon meeting today, they just looked at each other and smiled, not speaking for a long time.
As Ning Qian took the bouquet, she eagerly hugged the person in front of her, holding on tightly.
Wen Jin also held her firmly.
In their deep embrace, Ning Qian buried her face in Wen Jin's hair, enveloped by the familiar, comforting, and sweet fragrance. However, this sweetness was tinged with a hint of bittersweetness.
In the two years since they got together, living apart in different cities, although they would fly to see each other whenever they had free time, the number of meetings was still few and far between.
Even when they did meet, they couldn't stay together for long, sometimes only for a single night.
After hugging for a long time, Wen Jin lowered her eyes to look at Ning Qian's face, caressed her cheek with her palm, and murmured with heartache, "You've lost weight."
"Have I?" Ning Qian also stared intently at her face, feeling so overjoyed she was about to become incoherent. She thought she must be smiling very foolishly right now.
Wen Jin looked at her smile, so close, and the smile on her own lips deepened. "Let's go home."
"Mmm," Ning Qian nodded repeatedly.
Driving back from the airport, Ning Qian noticed that Wen Jin, like herself, had a smile on her face the whole way—the kind of heartfelt smile that one doesn't even realize they're wearing.
Dusk fell, the afterglow warm.
Her favorite music was playing in the car, and the air conditioning temperature was just right. Ning Qian realized that Wen Jin remembered everything she had told her even once, even before they were together.
She turned her head to look at Wen Jin's profile. The dusk added a touch of tenderness to her usually cool face. Perhaps, this tenderness wasn't just due to the light and shadow.
Ning Qian stared, captivated.
Wen Jin, holding the steering wheel, could feel the burning gaze from the person beside her. She didn't turn to look at Ning Qian, but a knowing, sweet smile appeared on her lips.
Ning Qian couldn't bear to look away. Thinking about it, she felt a little embarrassed. She was already in her thirties, yet when her heart fluttered, she still felt like an eighteen-year-old girl. But when she thought of Wen Jin, it all made sense. Wen Jin was the person who had amazed her entire youth.
Half an hour later, they returned to Wen Jin's residence.
Ning Qian was very familiar with this apartment. She had come here to accompany Wen Jin many times, and her most unpleasant memories with Wen Jin were also here.
"From now on..." Wen Jin wanted to tell Ning Qian they would live here from now on, but she paused, also remembering something. She looked at Ning Qian and said softly, "Let's live here for now. If you don't like it, we can find another apartment."
Ning Qian understood why Wen Jin hesitated. She couldn't bear to associate "dislike" with Wen Jin.
"No. As long as I'm with you, I like everything," Ning Qian quickly replied. She didn't want Wen Jin to keep thinking about those unpleasant past memories. She hoped that when Wen Jin was with her, she would be carefree, happy, and joyful.
Hearing Ning Qian say this, Wen Jin's heart felt a pang of sourness instead. She helped Ning Qian tidy her hair, smiling at her foolishness, feeling as if she always made her feel wronged.
Ning Qian held Wen Jin's hand. How could she withstand such a tender gaze from Wen Jin? She leaned in directly and gently kissed Wen Jin's lips.
From the first moment she saw her, she had wanted to kiss her.
Wen Jin felt the same. When Ning Qian approached, her eyelashes fluttered, and she lowered her eyes to meet her, taking Ning Qian's lips and starting to suckle.
It was the soft sweetness she had longed for. As soon as Wen Jin's breath came close, Ning Qian lost control. She wrapped her arm around Wen Jin's slender waist, greedily devouring the scent Wen Jin offered.
Wen Jin responded with equal passion, unable to resist kissing even deeper.
The number of times they met was pitifully few, so naturally, the number of times they kissed was also...
All the unspoken longing melted into their kisses.
The evening glow slanted across their bodies as they embraced, their lips and tongues entwined in a hot yet gentle dance. The sunset gradually faded, and moonlight began to pour in, making their lingering, wet kisses exceptionally romantic.
Wen Jin fumbled to turn on the light. Both their cheeks were flushed from kissing.
Ning Qian held the person in her arms, reluctant to let go. Thinking of how Wen Jin had also kissed her so fervently just now, she thought their longing for each other was mutual. She looked at Wen Jin and couldn't help but say coquettishly, "I missed you so much."
Her smile was still as sweet as it was in university. Wen Jin gazed at her, her heart fluttering.
After acting coquettishly, Ning Qian herself felt embarrassed first. She giggled foolishly, feeling like she had acted like a naive young girl, saying such cheesy things.
At this moment, Wen Jin rubbed her face and replied softly, "Me too."
Ning Qian was stunned for a moment, then her heart blossomed with joy.
Wen Jin looked into her eyes and said softly again, "I won't leave anymore."
Ning Qian hugged Wen Jin a little tighter, full of reluctance. She smiled, "I won't leave anymore."
For lovers who had been separated for a long time, this was perhaps the sweetest declaration of love.
"Let go of me, I'm going to prepare dinner."
Ning Qian, rarely being willful, shamelessly clung on.
Wen Jin looked at her helplessly, then kissed the corner of her mouth. "Is that okay now? Coquetry monster."
The curve of Ning Qian's lips never faded. "Boss Wen."
"Hmm?"
"You're so sweet, so sweet."
Wen Jin pursed her lips and smiled. Actually, she had always felt as if she didn't have the ability to love someone. Even when she confirmed her relationship with Ning Qian, she felt a faint unease in her heart, worried that she wouldn't be able to reciprocate Ning Qian's passion for her.
She had overthought it.
She just hadn't met the right person.
Ning Qian wanted to help in the kitchen, but Wen Jin wouldn't allow it, telling her to rest obediently. She couldn't win against her, so she wandered around the house.
Wen Jin had already tidied the room meticulously in advance, and all the household items were prepared in pairs. A photo frame was placed in the living room. Ning Qian picked it up and stared at it for a long time.
It was a group photo of her and Wen Jin from their university days. So, Wen Jin had also kept her photo all along.
A fragrant aroma wafted from the kitchen. Ning Qian had a keen nose, and it was her favorite food again. Wen Jin was like this in university too; she was always composed, yet she was gentle and considerate in every way, making one's heart itch.
Ning Qian followed the aroma into the kitchen and saw Wen Jin's slender, beautiful back. She had piled her long hair high, revealing a smooth, fair nape.
Ning Qian walked over and hugged her waist from behind. Now, when her heart itched for Wen Jin, she no longer had to endure it.
Wen Jin was about to plate the food when Ning Qian suddenly hugged her deeply from behind, causing her to lose focus for a moment. She turned to look at Ning Qian and asked with a smile, "Hungry? It'll be ready soon."
Ning Qian said hoarsely, "No, I just wanted to hug you."
Wen Jin let her, and smiled again.
Ning Qian hugged her and asked half-jokingly, "Will you find me too clingy?"
"No," Wen Jin shook her head. They had been together for two years, yet Ning Qian was still "cautious" with her, as if afraid of doing something she wouldn't like.
As if given special permission, Ning Qian hugged her tighter and buried her head to sniff the fragrance on her neck.
This kind of satisfaction brought by real body warmth was the best way to dispel longing.
Ning Qian's arms tightened around Wen Jin's waist, pressing even more intimately against her back. Her cheek continued to nuzzle into the crook of her neck. Perhaps her own breath was too hot, making the scent she inhaled from Wen Jin feel hot as well.
Wen Jin quietly bit her lip, an itch that went bone-deep.
Ning Qian's nose brushed against the delicate skin of her neck, and she couldn't help but sigh softly, "So fragrant."
Ning Qian was clearly not talking about food. A faint blush spread across Wen Jin's cheeks. She tilted her neck, and a searing heat mixed with kisses traveled from the nape of her neck to her earlobe, then from her earlobe to her face, then into the hollow of her neck, and down along her collarbone.
"Qianqian," Wen Jin called out softly, her voice changed.
"Hmm?" Ning Qian was still kissing her neck delicately.
Wen Jin's face was already flushed crimson. In front of Ning Qian, she always seemed to find it hard to suppress her impulses. She turned around in Ning Qian's arms, her body softening and leaning back slightly. Fortunately, Ning Qian held her tight in time.
Face to face, it was even better for kissing.
Wen Jin cupped her face.
Ning Qian then tilted her head and kissed her palm.
Wen Jin's other hand rubbed her waist, and she chided softly, embarrassed, "Let's eat first."
Ning Qian, shameless, sighed ambiguously, "I want to eat you first."
