DHMB - Chapter 20

Chapter 20

Chapter 20

Behind the high wall not far from the Training Building, two teams reached a consensus on cooperation. They shook hands in a gesture of friendship and discussed how to rack up points.

Due to the initial frantic encirclement and the deterrent effect of Lu Que's reputation, the number of people in the Rescue Army faction on the map had drastically decreased. Now, within sight, everyone was a "Star Pirate."

Several capable teams had already begun planning to advance the scenario. According to historical precedent, this involved switching factions, dispersing their forces, and using ambushes and traps within the scene to snipe "Star Pirates" and seize the opportunity to score points.

—They were two of those teams.

To show sincerity, the captains of the two teams agreed to select three people from each of their teams, switch factions, and form a new team. Then, using the identity of "Star Pirates," they would lure the enemy, while the "Rescue Army" would launch surprise attacks from behind the scenes. This way, they could first ensure the safe advancement of some individuals.

Perfect.

Zhang San, although he had a common name, had big dreams.

Historical lessons proved that the one who successfully survived until the end was not necessarily the strongest, but the one who knew how to adapt!

He looked up into the distance, carefully observing the enemy situation. He then randomly saw wisps of black smoke seemingly drifting out of the Training Building, hazy and indistinct. He asked in confusion, "Is the Training Building on fire? There shouldn't be many people inside anymore, right? Why are they still setting the building on fire?"

The observation team member in front reported, "It seems to have exploded. A large group of people just ran into the Training Building, the ground shook a bit, and then there was nothing."

Zhang San: "So many people went in, and not a single one came out?!"

"The building is under full alert now, even the Star Pirates can't get in. Don't know what they did."

"Tsk tsk tsk." Zhang San shook his head and sighed.

The person in front shouted, "Damn it! Lu Que is here!"

That person then urgently reported, "So fast, he's coming towards us!"

Everyone quickly hid behind the low wall, concealing themselves. They whispered amongst themselves.

"Could it be that he blew it up?"

"Very likely! What can't Lu Que do? I'd believe it if you said he self-destructed!"

"He seems to be chasing a girl, and he's alone, his teammates aren't with him!"

"We have twelve people now, should we take the opportunity to ambush him?"

The last question made everyone fall silent.

Clearly, this was a golden opportunity. Who wouldn't want to kill a top player in the competition? Since ancient times, defeating a superior opponent has been a shortcut to fame and fortune. Ambitious people couldn't resist this temptation.

Zhang San pursed his lips and pondered carefully, calculating the value between risk and reward.

However, he wasn't given much time to consider, as the target quickly appeared in their line of sight.

Lu Que ran out, full of killing intent, his face stained with dried blood. The aura around him seemed to thicken the air. His dark uniform was caked with the solidified blood of who knows how many people.

He stared straight ahead at the girl, still trying his best to obstruct and disrupt her.

"He's too ruthless, chasing a girl like this, no manners at all. Aren't there enough people for him to kill in the arena?"

"Captain? What do we do?"

Zhang San watched Lu Que get closer and closer, his brows furrowing tighter and tighter. It wasn't until he saw Lu Que step into their attack range, still looking completely unguarded, that he finally couldn't hold back and made up his mind:

"Big Monkey, go ambush him. If the ambush fails, switch to luring him. Team Two stays here, prepare for a second encirclement. We'll try to take him down in one go!"

"Alright!"

The boy called by name gathered his strength and leaped out from behind the wall impatiently. He used one hand to support himself on the wall and drop down, while the other hand drew a short knife, spinning it in his palm to change direction, getting ready to attack.

He lowered his upper body, and as he landed, he pushed off with his toes and shot out rapidly, the tip of the short knife aimed directly at the passing Lu Que.

"Lu Que! Prepare to die!"

Kai Yun turned her head when she heard the sound.

She had been chased so closely by Lu Que that she hadn't noticed any stragglers nearby.

Lu Que's steps paused slightly ahead. He shifted his gaze, confirmed the opponent's position, and tilted his body slightly, precisely dodging the stabbing knife tip. He seized the opponent's arm with the momentum, twisted it forcefully in the opposite direction, easily disabling the person's dominant hand.

Kai Yun heard the assassin grunt, and in the next second, his life was taken by the iron claw. From the moment his attack failed, he lost any chance of resistance, which also demonstrated Lu Que's reaction speed in a crisis. That speed of response could even be called an instinct.

Kai Yun had originally wanted to tell him to spare some points, but it happened too quickly for her to stop it. Seeing that Lu Que was about to resume his relentless pursuit, she turned around, ready to continue her wandering. However, before she could act, three or two more people jumped out from the nearby wall.

Lu Que ignored them completely and ran straight towards Kai Yun.

"Hey, hey, hey!"

Zhang San hadn't expected Lu Que to be so absolute. Anxious to keep him and lure him into the trap, he blurted out, "Lu Que! You lunatic!"

Lu Que suddenly stopped.

Kai Yun sensed the atmosphere behind her was wrong and stopped as well.

Zhang San's teammates immediately tensed up, grabbing the corner of his clothes and urgently saying, "Holy crap, you're finished, what did you call him?"

Lu Que turned his head, staring at him motionlessly. There was no life in those dark eyes, as if giving him one last chance to kneel and beg for mercy.

Zhang San felt a chill from his gaze, but the words were out, with no room for retraction. He simply continued to provoke, "What about calling you that? Come and hit me if you dare! Who in the military academy doesn't know you're a lunatic? Say one word about you and you get all twitchy like a bipolar episode, what else are you if not crazy? Where did this genius come from? You're just an unstable violent factor!"

Kai Yun's gaze shifted from him to Lu Que's face.

Although Lu Que had seemed somewhat gloomy since the start and had been thoroughly enraged by Kai Yun's evasion, Kai Yun had never seen him look like this before.

As the man's voice continued, blood rushed to his head, the veins on his neck bulged, and the whites of his eyes gradually became bloodshot.

It was clear he was deeply affected by being called those three words, and it was also clear he was trying his utmost to endure.

Lu Que pressed his neck and twisted it around, a crisp "crack" sound coming from his bones.

His voice was extremely low, yet very clear. Each word was suppressed and rolled out from his throat.

"What did you say?"

"What I said is clearly the truth! Who doesn't know who your parents are? Look at any famous player in the tournament, are they as secretive as you, not daring to mention them? You blew up the Training Building, didn't you? You're just a strictly monitored criminal. It's genetic, it's all..."

No one spoke. Even Zhang San's teammates quietly moved a step away, already accepting that he would soon lose this life.

A weak reminder came from behind the wall, "Hey, stop talking."

Perhaps sensing the atmosphere was a bit awkward, Zhang San also stopped talking. He turned to look at Kai Yun, thinking that since she was being chased by Lu Que, she must have some strength. He seized the opportunity to recruit her, "Hey, come over here! Don't be afraid!"

Kai Yun walked towards him.

Lu Que's Adam's apple bobbed forcefully. He raised his head, the muscles in his entire arm bulging. But before he could make a move, a familiar iron saber pierced through Zhang San's abdomen first.

Zhang San's eyes widened in shock. He slowly turned his head, but before he could clearly see Kai Yun's face, he was directly ejected by the system.

His teammates quickly jumped away, putting distance between themselves and Kai Yun.

Kai Yun withdrew her saber.

Her expression was grim at this moment, lacking her usual casualness. She was even angrier and more serious than when she had witnessed Jiang Tu being killed.

"First, I blew up the Training Building."

"Second, no one knows who my parents are, not even me. But what they passed down to me was life, not personality."

"Third," Kai Yun said, "knowing that someone is going to be unhappy, yet deliberately poking at their sore spot to hurt them, no matter the reason, I don't like it."

Little King Kai Yun couldn't associate with people like them!

"Fourth!" Kai Yun raised her saber and pointed it at them, smiling sinisterly, "Didn't you realize we're enemies?"

She greeted Lu Que, "You stand there, let me score some points first."
