DHMB - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
When Kai Yun pointed towards that door, Jiang Tu knew she must have witnessed the conflict just now and could guess what she was planning.
However, his teammates were already the cream of the crop among the Alliance Military University's younger generation, and they had left a while ago. These three miscellaneous soldiers definitely couldn't catch up. So, he didn't stop her, letting her have her fun for a bit.
The three of them arrived in front of the large door. Kai Yun invited, "My dear friend, you go in first, and I'll follow. Could you please help clear the way?"
Jiang Tu said, "I'm really not good at trial grounds."
"It's okay, maybe it was because you didn't choose the right posture just now, but it's different now." Kai Yun insisted repeatedly, "Give it a try, you can do it."
Seeing her place such high hopes on him, Jiang Tu thought it might be good to let her see for herself. He gripped his sword and charged in.
Unlike the bright hall, the trial ground was very dim, with only two blue fluorescent lights on the walls casting blurry outlines of the objects in the enclosed space.
As Jiang Tu stepped through the doorway, the robots that had been dormant in various positions began to move. They turned their heads, their dark, seemingly eye-like parts locking onto him, and then charged forward one after another.
Jiang Tu gripped his weapon, visibly nervous. He recalled his previous experience and told himself to stay calm. However, the robots' burst speed was very fast, giving him no time to think. Just like the first time, he was caught off guard right from the start.
The training robots' attack methods were actually quite monotonous, only using the most basic moves from punches, palms, and kicks. They didn't carry cold or hot weapons, nor did they use hidden weapons. But their attack speed was fast, their force was great, and they came one after another like an unending storm, creating a strong sense of pressure.
Jiang Tu was a swordsman. A sword's defensive capability couldn't compare to a saber, let alone a shield. Once he was forced into a passive state, he was prone to injury. The robots wouldn't stop because of this; the high difficulty setting even made them deliberately exploit the opponent's weaknesses, accelerating their attacks to secure the first kill.
Therefore, swordsmen were not suited for drawn-out battles in this trial ground. It was either a quick kill or a retreat.
Jiang Tu's hesitation only lasted for that initial moment, causing him to change his footwork and choose to dodge. After that, he had no chance to attack and was constantly suppressed.
The lighting in the training ground was dim, and at this time, sound and intuition would influence one's judgment. Jiang Tu couldn't clearly determine the distance between them or discern their attack methods. By the time he could make them out, he could only fall into a long period of defense.
Then, new robots joined the battle, increasing the training difficulty. He didn't even have time to catch his breath.
When the number of robots entering the formation increased to three, Jiang Tu was completely unable to cope. He wanted to retreat back to the starting point while the robots hadn't completely blocked his escape route.
Just as he showed signs of wanting to retreat, turning his foot to the side, his right hand was suddenly seized by someone.
Jiang Tu's expression changed, and he instinctively tried to shake free, but the hands covering the back of his hand were firmer than he expected, not moving an inch.
Immediately after, his arm was passively raised, drawing a semicircle with the sword tip, and thrusting sharply to the side.
The robot hit in the chest flashed red light in its eyes, and its limbs seemed to be stuck, no longer moving.
As long as you found the weak point, these little things were quite easy to break through.
Jiang Tu was startled and turned his head to look beside him, only to see Kai Yun smiling at him.
"My dear friend, don't look around when you're fighting."
Jiang Tu quickly snapped back to attention, only to see a cold, metallic fist already coming towards his face.
Jiang Tu's heart trembled, and he instinctively closed his eyes, bracing for the painful blow.
"Hold your sword tight, and open your eyes!" Kai Yun said forcefully, "Look at your enemy, otherwise you'll never defeat them!"
Jiang Tu took a deep breath, then opened his eyes.
The silver fist stopped just in front of his nose, while his sword had pierced the opponent's chest.
The hands holding his were clearly much smaller than his, making it hard to believe they could possess such strength. But the rough calluses felt on the back of his hand definitely didn't feel like a girl's hand.
Jiang Tu pulled his sword back, and Kai Yun led him to kill the last robot.
Finally, there was a moment to adjust.
Jiang Tu asked, "Are you a swordsman too?"
"I don't think so? I just learned a little casually, just a bit of a dabbler." Kai Yun humbly waved her hand, "My master didn't teach me properly, he just made me memorize sword forms and then ran off. When it comes to exquisite swordsmanship, I definitely can't compare to you."
Jiang Tu: "..."
If her expression hadn't been so sincere, Jiang Tu would have thought she was mocking him.
"But, my master did teach me one thing." Kai Yun stepped back two paces, standing behind Jiang Tu, and said, "When your mind is only thinking about retreat, you will never be able to defeat your opponent."
Lei Kaiding nodded in deep agreement.
Jiang Tu clearly couldn't let go, so his moves were monotonous when fighting, making frequent mistakes and lacking effective attacks. He also appeared quite clumsy, even carrying a hint of fear.
He probably hadn't properly observed or analyzed how to break through those robots, constantly focusing on what was behind him, thinking about withdrawing in time. It seemed that having no retreat was more terrifying than not being able to advance.
From his dodging skills, he had sufficient foundation and knowledge, but he didn't know how to attack.
Perhaps it was his personality, or perhaps he wasn't experienced enough, but this really wouldn't do.
Kai Yun said, "There's nothing to be afraid of, you are a very excellent swordsman. And don't look back anymore, because I'll be behind you..."
Lei Kaiding thought she was going to say something like protecting his back so he had no worries, or fighting alongside him, ready to rush out and share the burden. He was just opening his mouth, making a sour face, when he saw Kai Yun draw the long saber from behind her, point it forward, and press the tip against Jiang Tu's back.
"I will block your retreat."
Kai Yun, in an extremely calm tone, said something earth-shattering: "So if you take one step back, you will also die, and you will die immediately."
Lei Kaiding: "..."
Huh??!!
His hair stood on end, and he took one step, then another, moving away from Kai Yun.
Holy crap, are girls this fierce now?! Or did her military school identity make her ruthless?! How could she be someone who follows this kind of routine?
Jiang Tu's expression lost control for the first time, and he said in horror, "You—what kind of joke is this?!"
Kai Yun said, "My master said that people need a little sense of urgency to become stronger."
"You—"
Jiang Tu felt she was playing a trick on him and turned around angrily, simultaneously swinging his right hand upwards. As a result of this movement, his elbow hit the blade, his military uniform was instantly cut, and a bloody mark was left on his arm.
Jiang Tu was stunned, staring blankly at his arm.
Fortunately, their uniforms were tough and blocked most of the force. What shocked him was that Kai Yun's saber made almost no move to avoid him; even seeing his hand hit it, it remained steadily in its original position.
"My master also said, if you're not playing for real, it's not called urgency." Kai Yun said, "I'm not joking. If you tell me now that you want to go back, I'll kill you directly. If you want to continue, I'll help you with all my strength."
Kai Yun felt that saying this might be a bit heartless, so she added, "Of course, I will carry your will and help you kill a few more enemies to avenge you!"
Lei Kaiding roared internally.
You can only avenge him by killing yourself!
Kai Yun didn't forget to give a thumbs-up with her other hand: "Don't worry, this is just my encouragement for you. After the match, you'll still be my dear friend!"
Lei Kaiding was far less composed than Jiang Tu. His cultivation was too shallow; he was already on the verge of madness.
Damn, damn, damn!
He was going to get PTSD from the word "encouragement." This was definitely a spiritual terminal illness!
Kai Yun nodded her chin, indicating, "They're coming."
Jiang Tu didn't have time to think, crossing his sword in front of his chest to block.
This robot's force was clearly much heavier. Jiang Tu was knocked back a step by the impact.
The robot kept moving, combined with the dim light and shadows, leaving only a vague outline, making it impossible for him to attack normally.
It was the same situation, the same predicament.
Jiang Tu gradually became angry.
Don't look back, don't look back. Anyway, it's death either way. Could it possibly be a more unsightly death?
"Left side, shoulder height!"
A voice sounded behind him, leaving no room for doubt: "Stab, twist!"
Jiang Tu subconsciously followed suit.
Although he couldn't see clearly with his naked eyes for a moment, the change in force when the sword tip twisted told him through his fingers. He seized the opportunity and thrust the sword blade into the robot's joint. Before the opponent could launch its attack, he broke through first.
"Forward! Charge, charge, charge! Go!"
Jiang Tu roared and quickly charged forward.
After his steps crossed a certain distance, another robot rushed out, with a more violent, fiercer posture.
"Don't wait for it to get close!"
Close combat was a great disadvantage for swordsmen because there was no space to swing their long swords.
"Golden Rainbow Piercing the Sun... do you know it?"
Jiang Tu decisively used force in his feet, turned sideways, and swung his sword, unleashing a rapid strike towards the robot's direction.
A standard, flawless "Golden Rainbow Piercing the Sun."
A decisive, unhesitating strike.
The sword wind wrapped around the sword energy and whistled away, hitting the robot, which couldn't dodge in time due to the charge, shattering it.
It was defeated just like that, easily.
Jiang Tu looked at the wreckage on the ground, somewhat distracted.
That move just now made him feel the same exhilaration as when he first learned swordsmanship.
"Run! Don't stop!"
That voice jolted him awake again.
Jiang Tu took another step and sprinted forward wildly until there was nowhere left to go, only a green light shining above his head.
Jiang Tu was bewildered. He slowly turned his head and saw Kai Yun and Lei Kaiding standing by the entrance in the distance, smiling lightly at him with their arms crossed.
Kai Yun said, "See? You got through."
Jiang Tu looked down at his hands, somewhat disbelieving.
Kai Yun turned to ask Lei Kaiding, "We have to go too. Do you need my help?"
"Hmph!" Lei Kaiding muttered sarcastically in a low voice, "Licking boots until the end, you get nothing."
"I gained friendship," Kai Yun said, "A priceless treasure!"
And her little! Tomato!
Kai Yun ignored him, skipping forward: "My dear friend!"
