First Battlefield Commander! - Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Combat

The boy opposite her had well-developed muscles and slender limbs. He looked quite powerful.

Lian Sheng had tested her own physique. Strength—low. Jumping ability—average. Flexibility—stiff. In terms of combat, the only physical advantages she had were eyesight and reaction speed.

Physical attributes could be improved, but eyesight was harder to enhance. Tracking an opponent's attacks, muscle movements, and various details—it wasn't just about vision but more precisely, observational skills.

Lian Sheng herself had rich combat experience and sharp instincts. While this body might not have developed conditioned reflexes yet, her brain could respond quickly enough, thanks to its inherently excellent reaction capabilities.

From a talent perspective, "Lian Sheng" could be considered exceptionally gifted.

Of course, her opponent was undoubtedly talented too. Lian Sheng would have to rely on technique.

The opponent gestured at her, asking if she was ready. Lian Sheng assumed her stance and crooked a finger in response.

Seeing this, the boy charged forward with a straight punch.

Clearly, he didn't take Lian Sheng seriously either, consciously avoiding dangerous areas like her eyes and nose, aiming instead for her cheek. Because he was holding back, his punch wasn't particularly fast.

Lian Sheng's pupils contracted slightly as she retreated half a step, letting the fist graze past the tip of her nose.

Missing his target, the boy showed a flicker of surprise but didn't pause, using his momentum to spin into a flying kick.

Instructor Fu was about to call a stop—he thought this was as far as it would go, with such a disparity in skill, one move could decide the outcome. But then he saw Lian Sheng crouch down, dodging the kick.

It seemed she had already prepared her response before the opponent even attacked.

Instructor Fu didn't even have time to adjust his expression, his voice stuck in his throat, only his eyebrows twitching involuntarily.

Actually, Lian Sheng wasn't reacting before the opponent moved—she was responding as he initiated his attacks. The degree of his body's rotation, the positioning of his feet—none of it was concealed, making his next move obvious at a glance.

The moment he underestimated her, his fate was sealed.

The corner of Lian Sheng's mouth quirked slightly as she followed her crouch with a sweeping leg.

But this sweep wasn't aimed at his feet along the ground. As she closed in, she adjusted slightly upward, ultimately striking his calf.

The boy screamed and fell straight backward, clutching his leg as cold sweat broke out.

His lower body felt almost numb, with only the spot she'd kicked sending waves of sharp pain slowly registering in his brain.

Before he could speak, Lian Sheng reappeared in his line of sight.

Meeting her gaze, the student paled instantly, terror surging uncontrollably from the depths of his heart. He didn't even have time to raise his arms in defense, forgetting how to react entirely, as her finger jabbed at his shoulder.

Another burst of intense pain, half his body going numb.

He'd never experienced anything like it—his limbs' nerves seemed severed. A single thought flashed through his mind, and the horror became unbearable.

A wail tore from his throat, continuous and unbroken. Hoping to draw the instructors' attention before Lian Sheng could strike again.

But Lian Sheng had already retreated wordlessly, rubbing her hands as she observed.

The two instructors' expressions changed instantly as they rushed over.

The surrounding students gasped and stood, craning their necks to see.

Everything had happened too fast—they hadn't processed it. Had Lian Sheng really won in one move? Or was there more to it?

The boy's lips were pale, his eyes slightly bulging, his breathing uneven. Whether from fear or pain, his reaction was clearly genuine.

The instructor urgently asked, "What's wrong? Where does it hurt?"

He realized his movements were no longer fluid, even difficult to control. "My arm! What's wrong with my arm?" he asked.

The instructor felt along it but found nothing.

Trembling, the boy raised his other hand to point at Lian Sheng.

Once again, everyone turned to look at her.

Lian Sheng arched an eyebrow.

Instructor Fu demanded, "What did you do?"

Lian Sheng hadn't done anything. She'd just struck two acupressure points.

The Zusanli point on the calf, when hit, caused numbness in the lower body. And the Jianjing point at the top of the shoulder, when struck, numbed half the body.

Both were among the thirty-six vital points in the body's meridians, so striking them caused pain. But they weren't life-threatening—in fact, they were important points in massage and acupuncture.

Huh? Did they really not know such basic traditional medicine? And his reaction was so exaggerated—had he never had his leg go numb before?

Just as Lian Sheng was about to explain, Instructor Fu, recalling past incidents, darkened and roared, "What did you have on you? Using illegal weapons in a fair fight is despicable!"

Lian Sheng's expression shifted. She was deeply displeased.

Though her personality had its flaws, she wouldn't accept an accusation of being "despicable."

Lian Sheng said coldly, "Would you like to try it too?"

Instructor Fu rolled up his sleeves. "I advise you to confess now. I'm your instructor—don't make me force it out of you."

Lian Sheng stood motionless as Instructor Fu strode forward fearlessly.

When he got close, Lian Sheng suddenly bent at the waist, stepping into a bow stance as she punched his abdomen.

Instructor Fu felt a sharp sting in his gut. The pain didn't come from the force of her punch—she hadn't used much strength—but from the muscles and blood vessels at the point of impact.

He stumbled back two steps, staring at her in disbelief.

The other instructor, unable to stand by, stood and shouted, "Enough! Don't go too far! What do you think this place is?"

Lian Sheng stuffed her hands in her pockets, still watching them expressionlessly.

The neighboring instructor frowned. "Did you use a... stun gun?"

Given the full-body numbness, it did somewhat resemble a low-voltage stun gun. But the overall symptoms didn't match.

They truly couldn't believe that a slender girl like her could take down a burly guy in one move—let alone repel an instructor. She was just a transfer student. Without external tools, given her strength and build, it should've been impossible.

Instructor Fu's face darkened. "No. She didn't have anything in her hands."

"Even so, attacking an instructor during training warrants punishment!" the instructor bellowed. "Call your parents! I'm reporting this!"

The military exercises at Alliance University were led by company commanders, completely different from ordinary school drills.

The person in charge, a lieutenant, was an officer, not just a soldier.

A student using illegal equipment in combat and injuring an instructor was a serious offense. The lieutenant immediately contacted Lin Lie via comms, asking her to come to the camp to discuss the matter.

Lin Lie was shocked by the news. Maintaining her composure, she hung up, threw on her coat, and headed for the training base.

Many nearby classes gathered to watch, whispering and pointing at them.

Instructor Fu restrained Lian Sheng and searched her, confirming she wasn't carrying anything. The other instructor had already carried the boy to the infirmary.

Over a dozen others followed.

The on-duty doctor was startled by the crowd and hurried to help, settling the boy on a bed.

Once inside, the boy gradually calmed down, the numbness fading. He sat up and pulled up his pant leg.

Everyone leaned in to look—but there was nothing. Just a faint red mark where he'd been kicked. And since Lian Sheng hadn't used much force, and his skin was thick, even the mark was barely visible.

The instructor reached out to touch it.

The boy flushed. "I think I'm fine now. Just a little numb still."

"Are you joking?" The doctor stuffed his hands in his pockets. "Since when are Individual Combat students this delicate? You brought this to my infirmary?"

The instructor was embarrassed but still concerned. "No, it was serious earlier. Could you give him a full checkup?"

There had been cases of students using banned weapons to compete for points, so they took such matters very seriously.

The doctor nodded and gestured for them to move the boy to the equipment.

After the tests, the doctor reviewed the results.

He flipped through them carefully, his expression darkening at the end. "Not good."

Everyone tensed. The instructor asked urgently, "What is it? Is there really a problem?"

The doctor's face was stormy as he sneered, "The redness is gone. You don't have a single injury now."

Everyone: "..."

The doctor snapped, "I thought there was actually something wrong. Had enough fun? Instructor Li, is your team this idle? Should I tell your platoon leader to assign you more tasks? Huh?"

Instructor Li stood frozen.

The doctor seemed to think the only thing wrong with them was their brains. Slapping the report on the table, he scolded, "As Individual Combat students, you should at least have some awareness. For a minor injury—no, not even an injury—you come here? What do you think this infirmary is?"

He stopped just short of telling them to get out—the last shred of dignity he'd leave them.

Pointing at the door, he said, "Out!"

Their faces burning, they were chased out of the infirmary.

But the real embarrassment was waiting outside.

As they exited, Lin Lie happened to arrive.

Everyone was startled—they'd been about to call her to say she didn't need to come, yet here she was.

Seeing them all walk out, with the boy perfectly healthy on his own feet, Instructor Fu knew things had taken a turn for the worse.

The onlookers mostly understood what had happened, sympathy rising in their hearts.

Lin Lie, her coat draped over her arm, walked over and said formally, "In one sentence, tell me what happened."

Judging by the insignia on her uniform—two bars and three stars—she was indeed a colonel.

Lian Sheng half-lidded her eyes, finding it all rather pointless. Lazily, she replied, "Fought. Won. So they accused me of cheating."

Lin Lie: "Then I assume you're prepared to face the consequences of your actions. Ms. Lian Sheng, come with me."

Without looking back, she headed for the administration building. Lian Sheng followed closely.

The two instructors wanted to call after them but held their tongues. Exchanging glances, they were utterly lost.

Instructor Fu: "What just happened?"

"No idea," the other instructor said. "Everything's perfectly fine."

Instructor Fu: "..."

It was like hearing the distant sound of eggs cracking.

The boy approached sheepishly. "Sorry, I overreacted. But I really didn't mean to."

A grown man howling like that had been shocking. Lian Sheng had used just one move—how could they not suspect something? Especially with past precedents of serious misconduct.

Instructor Fu rubbed his stomach, still shaken. "It really hurt."

The other instructor touched his face, grimacing. "Yeah, it really hurt."

Lin Lie knocked on the door, and the two entered the company commander's office.

After shaking hands with the man behind the desk, Lin Lie pulled out a chair and sat directly across from him. She nodded at the side, signaling for Lian Sheng to sit as well.

Lian Sheng complied amiably.

The lieutenant: "..." This was his office.

Lin Lie crossed her arms, her tone flat. "Thank you for giving me the opportunity to exercise my rights as a mother. In all my years, I've never been called in as a parent. Neither as the one calling nor the one being called."

The lieutenant was baffled. Just as he was about to respond, Lian Sheng said, "You're welcome."

Lieutenant: "..."

Lin Lie: "Alright. Proceed, Ms. Lian Sheng."

The lieutenant frowned slightly. This mother-daughter pair seemed... unusual. He cleared his throat and, based on the report, said, "Regarding Lian Sheng's assault on an instructor—"

Lin Lie cut him off. "Initiator or self-defense?"

Lian Sheng: "He initiated. I demonstrated."

Lin Lie straightened her back, crossing her legs. "In that case, revise your wording. Ms. Lian Sheng's actions do not constitute assault."

The lieutenant studied them.

Lin Lie sat upright, her presence formidable, leaving no openings. Lian Sheng, meanwhile, slouched lazily, looking like any ordinary homebody.

The lieutenant fixed a stern gaze on Lian Sheng. "Do you have anything to say for yourself?"

"Hm, sure." Lian Sheng rubbed the back of her head. "Too weak. And too ignorant."

Original sins.

Lieutenant: "..."

Lin Lie: "Forgive them. These two points are causally related."

Lieutenant: "..."

This mother-daughter duo was relentless!

Lieutenant: "You truly don't think you did anything wrong?"

Lian Sheng made an affirmative noise, coldly gesturing. "Go on."

Lieutenant: "..."

Seeing him speechless for three seconds, Lin Lie stood. "I'm very busy, Lieutenant. I have meetings and experiments to attend. In the future, please don't summon me over such unjust matters."

Leaning over the desk, she asked quietly, "Anything else?"

The lieutenant said nothing.

Lin Lie nodded. "Goodbye."

With that, she grabbed her coat and left.

Lian Sheng watched her go, then stood and waved at the lieutenant. "Bye."

The lieutenant slumped in his chair, mouth slightly agape.

...Huh?
