If It’s Wrong, Then It’s Wrong - Chapter 96

Chapter 96

Chapter 96: The Thirty-Fifth Day

Wang Hongyang stared at Client #7’s message, his heart sinking. He had been careless and had been caught.

He suddenly felt the one hundred thousand yuan in his bank account wasn’t safe. No! He had to find a way out of this!

Guru: [I calculated it.]

He Bai, seeing the message, frowned. He was suspicious now. Vague, mystical pronouncements could be believable, but how could he have known the name of his company?

Client #7: [Who are you? How did you know I work at Shenyin?] He Bai wondered if a competitor was pretending to be a guru, trying to manipulate him, to gain information about Shenyin Technology.

But he had contacted the guru himself. It was unlikely anyone could have predicted that.

Wang Hongyang, thinking quickly, replied: [I didn't calculate it. Although the photo you sent was blurry, I recognized the man. His name is Ji Chaozhou.]

He Bai paused: [You know Ji Chaozhou?]

Guru: [I had a client who liked him, but…that Cheng Liu from your company stole him. She came to me for advice.]

He Bai was still skeptical.

Guru: [Don’t believe me then.]

Client #7: [Ji Chaozhou had a girlfriend before?]

Wang Hongyang, after recalling his conversations with Yun Fei, replied: [No.]

He Bai scoffed: [Then how did Cheng Liu “steal” him? Wasn’t it fair competition?]

Wang Hongyang: “?” Was that the point?

But, for one hundred thousand yuan, he would play along. Guru: [You’re right!]

He Bai, instinctively defending Cheng Liu, then fell silent.

Guru: [Let’s be honest, you should give up. Cheng Liu clearly doesn't like you. You're wealthy, your looks are…passable, why fixate on her?]

Wang Hongyang seriously doubted He Bai could actually separate Cheng Liu and Ji Chaozhou. And even if he did, Cheng Liu, once she realized what had happened, wouldn’t let him get away with it. He had dated her for six months, and although they hadn't spent much time together, he knew how quickly she could turn cold.

He Bai, seeing the guru's message, his face paling, then flushing. He had always been the center of attention, considered himself handsome, but now he was only “passable”?

Client #7: [I’m just…unwilling to give up. Even Wang Hongyang dated her for six months. Master, you probably don't know who he is. A second-rate model, with decent looks, but no brains.]

Who are you calling brainless?!

Wang Hongyang, whose biggest insecurity was his lack of education, and who was now flush with endorsement deals, was no longer willing to tolerate such insults for a mere one hundred thousand yuan.

He pressed the voice message button: “Know him? Of course I know him! He’s the one messaging you right now!”

He Bai: “…What?”

He played the voice message several times before realizing Wang Hongyang was the “guru” he had been talking to.

“You kept interfering with our dates, and she still didn’t like you,” Wang Hongyang said, mocking him mercilessly.

He Bai, not one to back down from an insult, especially since he believed he was right, and now realizing Wang Hongyang had been scamming him, retorted, “She doesn’t like you either. What are you so smug about?”

The two men, caught in a heated exchange, started sending voice messages back and forth, their insults escalating.

Finally, frustrated with the slow pace of messaging, they switched to a voice call, yelling at each other.

He Bai’s insults were logical and precise, while Wang Hongyang simply hurled whatever came to mind. They argued, their voices rising, their logic disintegrating, practically frothing at the mouth.

Meanwhile, the oblivious Cheng Liu, having bought their favorite dessert on her way home, entered her villa.

Ji Chaozhou wasn’t back yet.

Cheng Liu placed the dessert in the refrigerator, then, turning around, noticed the tea set had been replaced with a more elegant one.

Chaozhou must have done it.

CEO Cheng, not at all bothered, was pleased to see signs of his presence in her villa. She wandered around, looking for other changes, determined to cherish them.

She checked the living room, then the kitchen, where the aprons and utensils had also been replaced.

As she was about to leave, Cheng Liu stopped, her eyes falling on a familiar box on top of the cabinets.

Why was it back here? She hadn’t touched it!

CEO Cheng, raising an eyebrow, a smile playing on her lips, wondered if Chaozhou had put it back.

She continued her inspection, a cheerful spring in her step. All the toiletries in the bathrooms had been replaced, from towels to toothbrushes, but nothing in the master bedroom had been changed.

As she entered the study, her good mood vanished. The cable connecting the speakers to the computer was on the floor. She had placed it on the speaker. Why had it fallen?

Nothing else in the study had been changed.

Cheng Liu picked up the “Study Materials” sign from her desk, a sudden unease settling over her. She didn't think she had set a password on the new computer.

She sat down, turning on the computer, and saw her browsing history from that morning.

“…”

CEO Cheng wanted to disappear.

But then her spirits lifted. He had seen the “kitchen” videos and had even put the box back in the kitchen. Did that mean…he agreed with her plan?

CEO Cheng, looking at the video folder, suddenly regretted not creating more location-based folders.

Ji Chaozhou, having bought groceries, returned to Villa Number Six, preparing to cook. He still wasn't used to eating, but he enjoyed watching Cheng Liu eat. She always ate with such focus, and he wanted to be with her.

Cheng Liu was curled up on the sofa, reading a book about flower arranging. Hearing him enter, she looked up, her eyes brightening.

“You’re back,” she said, putting down the book.

“Mm,” Ji Chaozhou said, carrying the groceries into the kitchen. Cheng Liu followed, offering to help.

Unlike before, when he had needed to consult videos, Ji Chaozhou was now comfortable in the kitchen, having researched the recipes for the ingredients he had bought.

“I’ll help,” Cheng Liu said, stepping behind him as he was about to tie his apron.

Ji Chaozhou let her.

It took her two seconds to tie the knot. But she didn't step away, instead hugging him from behind, her chin resting on his shoulder, her arms around his waist. He was slightly taller than her.

Ji Chaozhou turned his head slightly, feeling her breath against his neck: “What’s wrong?”

Cheng Liu, not missing a beat: “Just…tired from work.”

She just wanted to hug him.

But Ji Chaozhou, thinking she was truly tired, turned around, looking into her eyes: “Go get some rest. I’ll call you when dinner’s ready.”

Cheng Liu, of course, refused to leave. She hugged him again, laughing, “I was just kidding.”

Ji Chaozhou, although he couldn't see her face, wasn't angry. He hugged her back, his hand resting on her back.

The perfect atmosphere was shattered by a single sentence.

“How did you like my…study materials?” Cheng Liu asked, her face buried in his shoulder, then started laughing.

Ji Chaozhou, annoyed by her bluntness, said coldly, “Not good. Ugly.”

A few minutes later, Cheng Liu was kicked out again.

CEO Cheng sighed. She had only hugged him for a little while. She shouldn't have said anything.

Neither of them ate much for dinner. Ji Chaozhou wasn't used to it, while Cheng Liu had eaten a large lunch and deliberately ate less.

After showering, still smelling of bitter coffee, Cheng Liu suddenly missed the scent Ji Chaozhou had worn last night.

So, when he came over, she asked for his new shower gel.

Ji Chaozhou, looking at her, “I don’t have any.”

He hadn’t used shower gel last night. It had been perfume, with…certain properties.

And she hadn’t reacted at all, simply falling asleep.

“Oh,” Cheng Liu said, not dwelling on it.

Ji Chaozhou sat down on the sofa, and Cheng Liu opened her flower arranging book, asking him several questions.

“Why are you reading this?” Ji Chaozhou asked, not recalling her having this hobby before.

“Just…learning,” Cheng Liu said, wanting to have more things in common, more to talk about.

Ji Chaozhou, looking down at the book, started explaining, reading along with her.

They gradually moved closer, the only sound in the living room the occasional turning of a page.

Around 10 pm, Cheng Liu suddenly remembered the dessert.

“I bought some dessert,” she said, retrieving two boxes from the refrigerator. “Do you want some?”

Two different flavors, same as last time.

Cheng Liu instinctively offered him the one he had liked before.

Ji Chaozhou, looking at the two boxes, pulled the other one closer as she was about to take it.

Cheng Liu, puzzled, followed his gaze.

Ji Chaozhou dipped his fingers into the dessert, scooping up some cream, his beautiful eyes meeting hers, then slowly spread the cream on his lips.

The white cream coated his lips, obscuring their natural color, his tongue darting out between them.

Cheng Liu froze, captivated by the sight, his casual glance, as he licked the cream from his fingers, sending shivers down her spine.

—He was like a seductive demon from the mountains.

“That’s…my dessert,” Cheng Liu stammered, her mind blank.

Ji Chaozhou, a flicker of annoyance in his eyes, but his expression unchanged, scooped some cream from the other box, his fingers brushing against her lips: “Yours.”

Cheng Liu, looking down, opened her mouth, licking the cream from his fingers.

The warmth of her tongue sent a shiver through him, his ears burning, but he maintained his composure, his eyes cold, watching as she fell into his trap.

Even knowing it was a trap, she willingly entered it.

Cheng Liu, releasing his fingers, pushed him back onto the sofa, sitting on top of him, then, picking up the dessert, scooped some cream and spread it on his neck, her voice thoughtful, “It does taste sweeter this way.”
