If It’s Wrong, Then It’s Wrong - Chapter 101
Chapter 101: The Thirty-Seventh Day
The bedroom lights were already off, the curtains wide open. Moonlight streamed in through the window, falling on the young man lying on her side. After their passionate entanglement, his hair was damp with sweat, his eyes hazy with desire, his lips unusually red, although his lower lip was slightly cut.
Cheng Liu, bathed in the moonlight, could see him clearly. At this moment, he resembled a seductive sea demon, captivating her completely.
Ji Chaozhou raised his hand, his fingertips gently touching Cheng Liu's face, his voice hoarse, unlike its usual calmness, “…You bit me.”
Cheng Liu liked biting his lower lip. During their final moments together, she had bitten him hard enough to draw blood.
“A kiss will make it better,” Cheng Liu said shamelessly.
Ji Chaozhou didn't argue. In their intimacy, a little pain was more like a playful tease.
He propped himself up on one hand, pulling Cheng Liu up with him. They went to the bathroom to clean up.
It took another hour before they emerged, finally lying down together, falling into a deep sleep.
Of course, one of them was pretending.
Cheng Liu, fighting off sleep, waited until Ji Chaozhou was asleep before opening her eyes. She had something extremely important to do tonight.
After confirming he was completely asleep, Cheng Liu carefully rolled over, opened the nightstand drawer, and retrieved three boxes, placing them on top. Inside were six rings in total.
She took out a man's ring, carefully turned back, and gently took Ji Chaozhou’s hand, slowly sliding the ring onto his finger.
—Beautiful.
Cheng Liu stared at it for a long time. The ordinary-looking ring seemed exquisite on his hand. His fingers were so beautiful, long and slender, even a simple iron chain would look stunning on them.
Cheng Liu opened her phone camera, taking a photo of him wearing the ring, then switched to another one.
This time, she put on the matching ring, comparing it to his. The sleeping Ji Chaozhou seemed to sense his hand being touched and instinctively grasped hers.
Cheng Liu froze, looking up at him. Seeing he hadn’t woken up, she quickly took a photo, then gently separated their hands, removing the rings and trying the third pair.
All three pairs looked good, especially on their hands.
Cheng Liu looked back and forth between the three photos, finally choosing the second pair, because he had held her hand while wearing them.
She put all the rings back in their boxes, carefully placing them in the nightstand drawer before lying back down.
Earlier, he had almost opened the drawer, but she had quickly reacted, flipping him over and pinning him down, grabbing a box before closing it, preventing him from discovering her secret stash.
Cheng Liu lay there, content, turning to face him. He was fast asleep, his face calm, only the cut on his lower lip standing out.
Next time, she wouldn’t bite so hard. A gentle kiss would be enough.
Looking at his wound, she felt a pang of regret. She quietly got up, retrieved some ointment, and carefully applied it to his lip.
Having done this, she finally fell asleep.
…
Around 3 am, Ji Chaozhou woke up. He opened his eyes and saw Cheng Liu across from him. Her face, in sleep, was devoid of its usual warmth, her lips in a straight line.
He raised his hand, tracing the outline of her face, and suddenly smelled ointment.
He quickly realized the scent came from his lower lip.
He touched his lip, then brought his finger to his nose. It was ointment. She had applied it for him.
A gentle smile appeared in his eyes. He had a high pain tolerance. A small cut on his lip was nothing, more like a playful tease during their intimacy.
—He liked her biting him.
Whenever she kissed and bit his lower lip, he felt like they were merging into one.
He also liked being inside her.
Ji Chaozhou gazed at the sleeping Cheng Liu for a while before sitting up. He retrieved his shirt, taking a piece of paper from the pocket, the one he had taken from the lounge at Shenyin that afternoon. He picked up a pen from the nightstand.
Unable to sleep, he wanted to finish what he had started earlier.
Sometimes, inspiration struck quickly.
He turned on the night light, sketching the ring's dimensions, confirming the diamond shape and size, only the ring face design remaining.
He turned to look at Cheng Liu, suddenly remembering the jade bonsai she had given him. It was in the study upstairs, inside a cabinet. Cheng Liu had said she had simply chosen it for its auspicious meaning.
He recalled the meaning: A stag sniffing lilies of the valley.
Ji Chaozhou, looking at the sleeping Cheng Liu, finally decided on the ring face design.
He carefully drew a stag and a cluster of lilies of the valley, but unlike the bonsai, the stag wasn’t looking up.
He deliberately drew them facing each other, the stag’s nose touching a single lily, the flower bending towards it, a gesture of intimacy.
By the time he finished, it was 5 am.
Ji Chaozhou got out of bed, retrieved a measuring tape, and carefully took Cheng Liu’s hand, measuring her ring finger and noting it down.
Having done this, he folded the paper, planning to take it to the jeweler tomorrow to order a pair of wedding rings.
Since Cheng Liu had called him her fiancé, he should prepare the rings.
He carefully placed the folded paper in his nightstand drawer before closing it.
The drawer was empty.
He had been sleeping on the other side of the bed before, the drawer filled with her belongings, which he had even organized.
He didn't dwell on it, simply closing the drawer and lying down beside her.
Ji Chaozhou gazed at Cheng Liu’s face for a long time, until his eyes ached, before finally closing them, his hand reaching out to intertwine their fingers.
…
Cheng Liu woke up late today, around 7:30 am.
She got up, washed up, then tiptoed back into the bedroom, opening the nightstand drawer and retrieving the ring box she had chosen.
Seeing that Ji Chaozhou was still asleep, she quietly left the room.
She paced back and forth between the first and second floors, her heart pounding, trying to decide what to say.
Even the fearless CEO Cheng was nervous about giving him the ring.
She had even searched online for ideas, but they were all about proposals. This was just an engagement ring.
A proper proposal required more elaborate planning.
This ring was simply to confirm their relationship.
But Cheng Liu was still nervous. She paced around the villa, unable to calm down.
Finally, she went to the backyard, placed the ring box on the lounge chair, and jumped into the pool, swimming back and forth, trying to clear her head.
Normally, she would have jumped from the roof, but with Ji Chaozhou here, she didn’t dare, simply entering the pool from the side.
Upstairs, Ji Chaozhou slowly opened his eyes. The bed was empty. He lay there for a moment, then his gaze fell on the nightstand drawer. It wasn't closed properly.
He sat up, pulling the drawer open slightly, intending to close it, but saw something unfamiliar inside.
He instinctively thought Cheng Liu had bought something useless again.
He pulled the drawer open further, revealing two octagonal velvet boxes.
Those kinds of boxes…
He hesitated for a moment, then opened one, revealing a pair of rings. He opened the other, another pair, different style.
When had she put them there?
He stared at the rings, completely stunned. They hadn’t been there before.
Yesterday? But they had been together almost the entire day. Had she bought them earlier?
Ji Chaozhou looked down. The brand was expensive, each box with a unique number.
He opened the brand’s website on his phone. One of the pairs had been released just two days ago. Cheng Liu couldn’t have bought them earlier.
He put the rings back in their boxes, placing them back in the drawer before walking towards the window, pulling open the curtains. He looked down and saw Cheng Liu swimming in the pool. There was a ring box on the lounge chair beside her.
She truly loved the number six. Even with rings, she had chosen six.
Ji Chaozhou stood there, watching her, a surge of happiness welling up inside him. There were no hallucinations, only a profound sense of joy.
She was always more proactive.
He didn't go down immediately. He washed up, changed his clothes, then slowly made his way to the backyard.
Cheng Liu, hearing him approach, quickly swam to the edge of the pool, grabbing the ring box. With nowhere to hide it, she simply held it underwater.
Ji Chaozhou, pretending he hadn’t seen anything, sat down by the pool, taking off his shoes: “What were you holding?”
Cheng Liu, still unsure what to say, avoided his gaze: “Nothing.”
Ji Chaozhou, looking at her, then at her clothes, asked calmly, “Do you usually swim in your everyday clothes?”
Cheng Liu: “…” She had simply wanted to clear her head.
Forget it! She couldn't stall any longer.
Cheng Liu, taking a deep breath, held out her hand, opening the ring box, revealing the rings inside.
“I forgot to ask yesterday. Do you…want to be my fiancé?” She looked up, meeting his gaze. “Do you?”
Ji Chaozhou didn't reply. Instead, he held out his left hand.
Cheng Liu, understanding, happily took out the man's ring, carefully sliding it onto his middle finger.
Ji Chaozhou looked at his hand, his heart pounding, his face still calm. He took the ring box from her, now soaked, and retrieved the woman’s ring, placing the empty box on the side. He gently took her hand, sliding the ring onto her finger, their fingers intertwining.
In the sunlight, the diamonds on their rings sparkled, water droplets sliding down their fingers and into the pool.
Then, Ji Chaozhou leaned down, gently kissing her, his heart silently answering: I do.
