Princess Syndrome - Chapter 97

97: Care

Chapter 97: Care

Su Lingyue thought Shen Yuan was quite dryly humorous sometimes. Did Ye Qiuyun dislike her? Did it even need to be said? It was obvious to everyone. She simply didn't care, it wasn't like she couldn’t sense it. She could still feel Ye Qiuyun’s undisguised aversion toward her.

But she was still a little curious.

She asked Shen Yuan, "If she doesn't like me, why does she still let you stay with me?"

After all, she used to ground Shen Yuan, confine her at home, and forbid her from participating in any activities. With such strong control, how could she not be angry and enraged at seeing Shen Yuan spending time with someone she disliked? Why hadn’t she dragged Shen Yuan away? Instead, she endured her anger, leaving without saying a word.

It was not in line with Ye Qiuyun’s personality.

Hearing this, Shen Yuan’s eyebrow twitched. Her gaze was deep. After a while, she said, "Maybe she doesn't want to argue with me."

That was rare.

Was Ye Qiuyun capable of considering others’ feelings now?

Su Lingyue still found it surprising, smiling wryly, "Has President Shen ever argued with her?"

In her memory, Shen Yuan was always quiet and tolerant. When she was so young, she would get beaten, scolded, and confined by Ye Qiuyun at home. Yet, she never said a word. At gatherings, she never mentioned her family. Every time Ye Qiuyun looked at her, she would lower her head and walk towards Ye Qiuyun, away from them.

In her mind, Shen Yuan was more like a puppet controlled by Ye Qiuyun, her growth dictated by her will. Any slight deviation would be met with punishment. Over time, it had formed Shen Yuan’s cold and silent personality, only knowing how to be submissive.

She had never thought that she would ever argue with Ye Qiuyun.

Shen Yuan said, "I have."

Those two simple words were somewhat understated.

Su Lingyue asked, "How did it feel?"

Shen Yuan turned to look at her.

Su Lingyue said, "Did it feel great?"

Shen Yuan was speechless.

Seeing that she was still looking at her, Su Lingyue said, "I used to argue with my dad a lot. I always felt great after every argument."

Shen Yuan thought, it was probably common knowledge. The reason why Ye Qiuyun disliked Su Lingyue was simple. When she was a child, she had often talked back to her, like a hedgehog, rebellious and disrespectful. In her eyes, she was the most impolite child, and that's why she never liked Su Lingyue.

Once people develop a prejudice towards others, without reasonable resolution, the prejudice would only intensify.

Especially for someone like Ye Qiuyun who was good at controlling everything and would never look for problems in herself.

For her to change her prejudice would be next to impossible.

Fueled by that prejudice, she forbid herself from getting close to Su Lingyue. She forbade her from attending those "meaningless" gatherings in her eyes. Regardless of her will, she set countless restrictions for her.

Shen Yuan hadn't been unaware of the name Su Lingyue.

In the years that followed, she had heard it several times, all from Ye Qiuyun.

“That girl from the Su family, she has no manners. She dared to challenge her father in public, without a mother's guidance, she’s bound to be useless.”

“Yuan Yuan, look, what did I say? That troublemaker from the Su family was bound to get into trouble.”

The most recent time was when she heard that Su Lingyue had been kicked out.

She sneered, "Her father is too tolerant. If it were me, I would have thrown her out long ago, as if she were never born."

It was just idle chatter.

She let it in one ear and out the other. That day, after hearing those words, she had asked for the first time, "Mom, would you regret having me?"

Ye Qiuyun’s hand holding her chopsticks stiffened. She turned her head and looked at her. Under the light, their eyes met.

Shen Yuan lowered her head. “I’m just joking.”

It was not funny.

Yet she was happy for a long time.

Because that day, she saw Ye Qiuyun leave with a darkened face.

It had been a long time since she had seen her make such an expression. She hadn’t thought that just by standing next to Su Lingyue, she would be able to make her have that stifled yet helpless expression.

Strangely, Shen Yuan felt a warped sense of satisfaction.

This feeling was like an addictive drug. She laughed after a long time. "Great."

Su Lingyue said, "Right? You should argue with her more often."

She now looked like a siren, tempting others into wrongdoing.

Whispering confusing words in her ears.

But Shen Yuan took her words to heart.

She didn't, however, make any other expression.

To argue more, it was impossible.

Ye Qiuyun now rarely even raised her voice when speaking to her. How could she possibly argue with her?

No matter how unhappy she was, Ye Qiuyun would endure it and turn away, never arguing with her again.

But she still said, "Okay, thank you."

Su Lingyue said, "No problem."

Did she just corrupt a good person?

An illusion.

It must have been an illusion.

She focused her thoughts.

Shen Yuan asked, "Do you need me to take you back?"

Su Lingyue shook her head quickly. "No, don't trouble President Shen."

Shen Yuan watched her leave.

Su Lingyue was stunned when she got to her doorstep. She smacked her forehead. She had been distracted by Ye Qiuyun’s situation, and forgot to talk about what she wanted to talk about with Shen Yuan. However, this wasn't something that could be resolved quickly. If she brought it up today, she might make Shen Yuan uncomfortable. It would be best to wait until they had met a few more times.

After making up her mind, her body relaxed. When she entered the apartment, Xiao Mafan was already sitting by the door, looking up at her. When she put down her bag, it immediately rolled over and rubbed against her legs, sticking to Su Lingyue.

Su Lingyue picked it up and cuddled it. Then, she put it down and walked to the living room.

Xiao Mafan didn’t follow.

It was still sitting by the door.

It kept looking at Su Lingyue as if wondering why only she had returned. Or as if it was reminding her that another person hadn’t come home yet.

Su Lingyue's heart stung, feeling both pain and tenderness. The emotions were too overwhelming, and she couldn't handle it. She walked to the door, squatted down, and rubbed Xiao Mafan’s head. "Are you waiting for Ji Zhiyi?"

Xiao Mafan called out to her softly.

Su Lingyue blinked, slowly calming down. Then, she rushed over to the coffee table, grabbed her phone, and took a picture, sending it to Ji Zhiyi.

Ji Zhiyi opened her phone: [Xiao Mafan misses you]

There was also a picture attached.

The picture only showed a cat and a pair of feet. She replied: [Why are you not wearing shoes again?]

Su Lingyue, upon seeing the message, looked down. She liked to be barefoot at home to keep cool. After being called out by Ji Zhiyi, she immediately went to the shoe cabinet and put on slippers, sending a picture to Ji Zhiyi.

Su Lingyue: [Are you satisfied?]

Ji Zhiyi: [Yes.]

Su Lingyue immediately video-called her. Ji Zhiyi paused, glancing at Jiang Ya who was busy beside her, hanging up, and explaining to Su Lingyue, "In the ward."

Jiang Ya carefully wiped Jiang Yunlu’s face, rubbing her hands. The morning sun was shining through the window. Jiang Yunlu was lying on the bed. Since she had woken up, she had been like this, quiet as if she hadn’t woken up. But she could open her eyes, which was already a great blessing for Jiang Ya. Even if Jiang Yunlu had no other reaction, she could excitedly chat for a long time.

Ji Zhiyi sometimes found the scene unreal. If she felt this way, how much more did Jiang Ya feel this way?

So, at this moment, she could understand Jiang Ya.

When she saw Jiang Yunlu, she stood by the bed and called out, "Sister Yunlu."

Jiang Yunlu’s eyes moved, visibly glancing at her. She blinked after a moment. Jiang Ya waved her hand in front of her. "Yunlu?"

She still didn’t react much.

The doctor said her physical functions were well cared for, but she had yet to recover her other senses and language functions. It would probably take some time. But the fact that she had woken up was a miracle in itself.

After sending the message to Su Lingyue, Ji Zhiyi heard a knock at the door. She looked over. Jiang Ya said, "Zhiyi, can you open the door?"

She opened the door, and a group of doctors immediately walked in.

Jiang Yunlu's miracle was rare, so from the moment she had woken up, the news had spread throughout the hospital. Every day, many people would come for rounds, led by the hospital president. He stood on the side, talking with Jiang Ya.

At that moment, Jiang Ya showed an unprecedented vulnerability. "Zhiyi, Godmother is afraid of missing something. Come and listen with me."

It was to prepare for Jiang Yunlu’s recovery, and a series of systemic stimulations would be carried out. It was not hard to understand, but Jiang Ya would easily forget things in her current state. That’s why Ji Zhiyi stood by her side, listening with her.

The president presented Jiang Ya with two plans for Jiang Yunlu and asked her which one to choose. Jiang Ya looked at Ji Zhiyi.

Ji Zhiyi replied, "The second one is better, it's more stable."

The president said, "I also think the second one is more suitable, although it'll be hard on your family."

Then, he looked at Ji Zhiyi. "When did you return?"

Jiang Yunlu had been in the hospital for a long time, and a VIP ward had long been reserved for her. Jiang Ya also often sponsored hospital projects. The president knew them both, and naturally knew Ji Zhiyi as well, although she hadn't seen her in a few years. She had heard she had returned to the country.

She must have returned because Jiang Yunlu had woken up.

Ji Zhiyi said, "I just arrived."

The president nodded. "Contact me directly if you need anything."

Ji Zhiyi thanked him, and saw the president and his team out. The room became quiet again. When she returned, Jiang Ya was sitting by the bed, talking to Jiang Yunlu. Hearing the sound, Jiang Ya turned her head, and Ji Zhiyi walked over.

Jiang Ya said, "Sit."

Ji Zhiyi sat in the chair next to her.

Jiang Ya held Jiang Yunlu’s hand, turning to look at Ji Zhiyi. "Zhiyi, do you hate Godmother?"

Ji Zhiyi was slightly taken aback.

Jiang Ya said, "You should hate me. Over these years, you've sacrificed so much for me. Godmother knows this." These words did not make Ji Zhiyi relax. Instead, she tensed up.

Ji Zhiyi said, "Godmother, have you been too tired lately?"

Jiang Ya said, "Do you think Godmother is talking nonsense?" She paused. "After Yunlu woke up, I've been thinking a lot. In the past, I was too extreme. I've hurt you. Godmother apologizes to you."

Ji Zhiyi said, "Godmother, you're being too serious."

Jiang Ya said, "Godmother only has you two daughters. Naturally, I want you to be well. Now that Yunlu is awake, you can also see her condition. What if she doesn't recover well? What if I'm not here one day and she doesn't have anyone to take care of her..."

Only then did Ji Zhiyi understand the reason for Jiang Ya's changed attitude.

It was all for Jiang Yunlu.

This person who had been so strong for half her life, someone who had never lowered her head in front of her, was now trying to soften up. "Godmother, our family owes your family. Sister Yunlu’s situation is also our family’s responsibility. It's our duty to take care of her."

Jiang Ya looked at her. "I can feel at ease with you saying these words."

Only then did Ji Zhiyi finally relax.

Currently, all of Jiang Ya's focus was on Jiang Yunlu. She probably wouldn’t pay as much attention to Dingsheng anymore. Yilin had no major plans recently, with the Aron project as the priority, so they could wait for the Baoshun shopping mall to be completed before starting their plans.

She calculated the time in her mind, not showing anything on her face. Jiang Ya turned her head and said, "Zhiyi, you should go back and rest. You haven't had a good sleep after flying over."

After being used to her cold attitude, this gentle tone was like talking to a different person.

But Ji Zhiyi adapted quickly. "Alright, I'll go back first. I’ll come back this afternoon."

Jiang Ya nodded.

Watching Ji Zhiyi leave.

When the door closed, her phone vibrated. Jiang Ya took out her phone and saw a short video, only a few seconds long.

The video had been taken in the office.

The angle wasn’t good, but it was enough to see Ji Zhiyi sitting in her office chair.

And Su Lingyue, leaning on her side.

And the scene where Ji Zhiyi lowered her head and kissed Su Lingyue.
