Princess Syndrome - Chapter 107
Chapter 107: Redo
Su Lingyue, while talking on her phone, had the urge to barge overseas if Ji Zhiyi didn’t pick up. But in reality, her heart was twisted. It was so painful that her eyes were watering. The medicine she had received in the morning had been sent by Ji Zhiyi. That person hadn’t said a single word about it. If Zhang Xian hadn’t told her now, she would have still been angry at Ji Zhiyi.
Perhaps— was Ji Zhiyi angry?
Was she angry that she had gone to see Shen Yuan last night, but hadn't told her about it?
Was she angry that she had been slapped yesterday, and she hadn't said anything about it?
As if she had found the source of everything, Su Lingyue's anger suddenly decreased a lot, but there was still a ball of fire burning inside. She blinked, when she heard the call being picked up. Instantly, her heart pounded, and then she heard a familiar voice. "Hello."
It was a brief greeting, so familiar, yet so distant.
Su Lingyue held back her feelings.
The other side called, "Lingyue."
The grievances she had been holding in all day were finally able to be released. Su Lingyue didn't say anything, but through the phone's electric current, the sizzling sound traveled into the other's ears. Su Lingyue, while biting on her finger, wanted to let out a harrumph, but she held it back. "Ji Zhiyi, you're in trouble!"
Her tone was soft, even in her anger. It was like she was acting spoiled. The fierce temper she had shown when she had told Shen Yuan that they bosses always protected each other and were all bad people was now gone. Zhang Xian, hearing someone make that statement in such a soft and weak tone, turned her head curiously.
Su Lingyue used her hand to turn her face away.
Zhang Xian: …
Ji Zhiyi, hearing what she said, laughed. She agreed, "Yeah, I'm in trouble."
Even though she was the one who had just said it, when Ji Zhiyi repeated it, Su Lingyue couldn't bear it. She was angry at herself for being soft-hearted. She also regretted not calling Ji Zhiyi after she had returned from Shen Yuan’s apartment last night.
She said, "Why didn't you pick up the phone?"
Before Ji Zhiyi could reply.
She asked, "Were you angry?"
"Were you angry that I didn't tell you the truth last night? Were you angry that I went to find Shen Yuan? Right?" Su Lingyue said, "I didn't do it on purpose. I was just afraid that you would worry."
She spoke in a jumbled mess, as if she was afraid that she wouldn't be able to explain it clearly.
"Shen Yuan and I don't have anything going on. She was just feeling unwell last night, and didn't want to argue with her mom, so she asked me to go over and help her."
Why did it sound even more confusing now?
Su Lingyue was frustrated. "I'm not..."
Ji Zhiyi interrupted her. "Lingyue."
Su Lingyue was silent.
Hearing her voice, she felt a wave of grievances.
The car stopped. Zhang Xian said, "I'll bring your suitcase up, here's the key to my place, and here’s the car key."
Su Lingyue looked at her.
Zhang Xian replied, "Remember to lock the door."
Then she got out of the car. She dragged Su Lingyue's suitcase from the trunk and into the lobby. Su Lingyue looked at the two keys in her hand. She placed them on the dashboard. She sat in the car, the rain pouring onto the windshield and the front window.Plip-plop It sounded like it was beating against her heart, making it ache. Ji Zhiyi, hearing the rain, asked, "Is it raining?"
Su Lingyue’s emotions had finally stabilized a little. She replied, "Yeah."
Without Zhang Xian there, she didn’t need to hide her emotions anymore. The warmth that she had been holding back all day rose to her eyes again. She sniffled, and asked Ji Zhiyi, "What did you do today?"
Ji Zhiyi replied flatly, "I was keeping watch at the hospital, and I went home to rest."
Su Lingyue: "And then?"
Ji Zhiyi replied, "Nothing else."
Su Lingyue fidgeted, "Didn't you miss me at all?"
Ji Zhiyi pursed her lips. When she heard this, she closed her eyes. The excessive longing was making her lose control of her rationality. When the housekeeper had told her that Su Lingyue had gone to Shen Yuan's place in the middle of the night, she had just been silently staring at her phone. Time had seemed to have stopped at that moment. She could no longer feel it passing. One minute had felt like an entire lifetime. She didn’t know what time Su Lingyue had returned. She had waited for Su Lingyue’s message.
When she had laid down, she had felt even more tormented.
It was only after Zhang Xian had given her a reason to look for Su Lingyue that morning that her eyes had reddened.
Was she angry?
Yes, she was.
She was very angry.
She was so angry that she wanted to call Su Lingyue right away.
She was still a person. She had emotions. But she didn’t dare.
This relationship was a dream that she had longed for. It was her dugout canoe, and she had been carefully floating on it every day. She didn't dare to make any movements.
She had received Su Lingyue's message, but didn't dare to reply right away.
She was afraid that she wouldn’t be able to control her emotions and argue with Su Lingyue.
They were separated by such a distance. She didn't have the confidence to do everything right. Because of this relationship, she had felt a sense of powerlessness for the first time, not towards Su Lingyue, but towards herself.
She wasn't as magnanimous as she had thought. Even a small problem had become a thorn in her heart. Even though she knew that Su Lingyue had gone to Shen Yuan because of work, she was still despondent, angry, and even wanted to explode at her.
Her rationality had returned, and was immediately replaced by the fear of what had almost happened.
Ji Zhiyi said, "I..."
Su Lingyue cut her off. "You say that you missed me."
The domineering tone had made Ji Zhiyi’s mood more even. She said, "Yeah, I missed you."
"You're so insincere," Su Lingyue said, "Ji Zhiyi, are you still angry?"
In the dark car, she could hear the rain, and on the other end of the phone, she could hear how Ji Zhiyi had paused for two seconds, before she said in a soft voice, "I don't know if I should be angry."
Her words revealed her confusion.
Su Lingyue’s heart ached. She said, "Is there a should or shouldn’t when it comes to being angry? If you're angry, then you're angry. It's right for you to be angry that I went to find Shen Yuan in the middle of the night. It's right for you to be angry that I didn't tell you anything!"
As she spoke, her temper rose.
Because she had realized something.
It was like Ji Zhiyi had never truly gotten angry after they started dating. How could someone never be angry? How could someone not have emotions? She just hadn't shown it.
Her heart was hurting. "Why aren't you angry?"
Ji Zhiyi replied, "Because arguing might lead to a breakup."
"Arguing is just arguing," Su Lingyue said, "Why can't couples argue? Arguing doesn't mean that we're going to break up! Keeping everything inside will be the reason for a breakup!"
The word "breakup" stung Ji Zhiyi. She closed her eyes, and replied instinctively, "I'm sorry."
"What are you apologizing for! Don't apologize!" Su Lingyue cried out, "You didn't do anything wrong. Why are you apologizing? I should be the one apologizing. Ji Zhiyi, you're terrible. You did that on purpose, right? You purposely made me feel bad, you purposely made my heart ache, right?"
She had said it all.
Ji Zhiyi was speechless.
After a few seconds, she said, "Don't cry."
She wanted to apologize again.
Su Lingyue was insistent. "I'll cry! I'll cry!" As she said that, she started crying, releasing all of her frustration from the day. She had been so afraid all afternoon. Ji Zhiyi had never been like this before. It had made her panic. That panic had nowhere to go, but now that she had released her tears, it was as if she had found a way to let it all out. It had been a long time since she had cried like this. She hadn’t cried when her old house had been transferred to Zhou Shiyu, she hadn't cried when she was kicked out of the Su family, and she hadn't even cried when her dad passed away.
But now she was acting like a seventeen or eighteen-year-old. She was crying as hard as she could, not caring about what anyone thought.
Ji Zhiyi clenched her phone. Her knuckles turned white. Her face also turned pale. Hearing Su Lingyue cry was like a thousand cuts. Her lips had lost all color. Her voice was trembling. "Lingyue."
Only then did Su Lingyue take a tissue to wipe her face.
Ji Zhiyi replied, "I'll call you."
Then, she hung up. After a moment, a video call came through.
Su Lingyue was stunned. She quickly looked at herself in the rearview mirror. Her makeup was a mess, and she looked terrible. The only good thing was that she was in the car. It was dark, so nothing could be seen clearly.
She turned off the car's interior lights, and answered the video call.
Everything was black.
Only Su Lingyue's face was white.
She stared at the video, asking Ji Zhiyi, "Am I very ugly?"
She was too ugly.
She was so ugly after crying.
Ji Zhiyi replied, "You're not ugly."
Su Lingyue replied, "Just try to console me."
Ji Zhiyi saw that her emotions had stabilized. She looked at Su Lingyue through the screen. Their eyes met. Su Lingyue could see that Ji Zhiyi was sitting on the sofa. She didn't know if it was because the sunlight was too strong, but her face was very pale. It was almost sickly. Looking at her, Su Lingyue asked, "Are you still angry?"
Ji Zhiyi looked at her. "Hmm?"
Her sudden confusion was a little cute.
Su Lingyue was amused by her. She quickly put on a stern face. "I'm asking if you're still angry?"
Because of the signal, there was a delay, so Ji Zhiyi hadn’t responded right away. Su Lingyue thought that she was still angry. She replied, "If you're still angry, then I'll make a funny face."
Ji Zhiyi stared at her. "A funny face?"
Su Lingyue nodded.
She had already ruined her makeup, so she looked like a ghost. She decided to let go of her baggage. She made a funny face at Ji Zhiyi, and even used her hands to pull the sides of her mouth up. Ji Zhiyi, seeing the face on the screen, felt all of her emotions being washed away. She lowered her eyes and smiled.
Su Lingyue continued. "I'll even do a dance for you."
Ji Zhiyi leaned back on the sofa. She heard Su Lingyue say, "It's a hand dance, watch carefully."
Then, she placed her phone on the dashboard, raised her hands, and made mechanical shapes. Ji Zhiyi watched intently. Her gaze grew more tender. The anxiety and fear inside of her had been filled, and the camera was also filled with Su Lingyue’s individual performance.
In the end, Su Lingyue shook her neck.
She looked ridiculous.
But Ji Zhiyi really liked looking at it. Her eyes were full of tenderness as she stared at Su Lingyue. Separated by a layer of glass, and surrounded by a downpour, she felt a deep longing.
After finishing, Su Lingyue looked at Ji Zhiyi. "Did you laugh? Are you no longer angry?"
Ji Zhiyi was leaning against the sofa. Her hand was next to her pillow. She tilted her head, looking at Su Lingyue. "What if I'm still angry?"
Su Lingyue replied, "Then maybe I should sing you a song?"
Ji Zhiyi agreed, "Okay."
Su Lingyue said, "What do you want to listen to? A nursery rhyme?"
Ji Zhiyi went along with her, "Okay, a nursery rhyme."
Su Lingyue then went into her playlist and found a song called "Little Tiger." Her voice was hoarse because of crying. She tried her best to amuse Ji Zhiyi. She danced and sang. Ji Zhiyi clutched her phone, listening. After she had finished, Su Lingyue asked, "Did you like it?"
Right now, Ji Zhiyi thought that everything she did was beautiful.
She nodded. "I liked it."
Su Lingyue asked, "So have you stopped being angry?"
Ji Zhiyi looked at Su Lingyue in the screen. She looked so pitiful. She wasn't angry anymore. She shook her head.
Su Lingyue said again, "You said it, you're not angry anymore!"
Ji Zhiyi replied, "Yeah, I'm not angry anymore."
"It's my turn now!" Su Lingyue's voice suddenly became louder. She looked at Ji Zhiyi, yelling, "You didn't reply to my messages, and didn’t pick up my calls today! All day! It's my turn to be angry now!"
Ji Zhiyi was speechless.
Su Lingyue was fierce. "You need to redo everything that I just did!"
Ji Zhiyi blinked, and slowly sat up straight.
