Invasion - Chapter 62
Chapter 62
“It's a Guide.”
“A new Guide.”
“After so many years, a Guide has finally come.”
Inside the crimson lair, countless fragmented voices echoed, the red blood vessels writhing with unfathomable desire.
It was a deep cavern. Only from above could one see a giant egg lying quietly at the bottom.
Countless crimson blood vessels crisscrossed the egg's surface, pulsing with a dull thud like a beating heart.
It was like a massive, mysterious creature slumbering within, not yet hatched.
A brightly colored golden tree stood silently amidst the writhing vessels.
Golden roots and crimson vessels merged, each eroding the other. The vessels pulsed, scarlet blood repeatedly contaminating and scouring the golden trunk.
The golden roots spread across the ground, reaching outwards. As the knots pulsed, countless emotions of pain, sorrow, and madness, which Lin Yuan had seen before, materialized into distorted faces, carried back by the lustrous golden roots.
Like nutrients, they were continuously supplied to the crimson egg.
This was the source of Contaminated Zone 77. The source of all suffering in this time-sealed world.
Lin Yuan stood at the top of the cavern and took a step forward.
“Don't come any closer,” a voice rang out.
The voice was cold, but carried good intentions. Lin Yuan had heard it before; it was Xun Hua's voice.
At the bottom of the cavern, Xun Hua, on the golden tree, stretched out his arms, hung his head, and remained motionless, his body mostly merged with the golden trunk, as if in a deep sleep.
But Lin Yuan clearly heard his voice in her ear.
“Leave.”
“Danger.”
“Leave… immediately…”
The voice distorted at the end, like a disturbed radio wave, filled with static. Xun Hua’s voice was finally suppressed, no longer audible.
Lin Yuan walked down the edge of the cavern. Her feet were clearly stepping on a steep, narrow dirt path, yet the ground before her eyes disappeared, replaced by a thin wire.
With the next step, the wire vanished, replaced by a large patch of sharp needles.
Although she knew these were illusions, her consciousness was being interfered with. This interference made walking extremely difficult. She didn’t know if her next step would be a true fall or if she’d still be on solid ground.
Lin Yuan knew someone had invaded her mental domain; the battle had begun.
A mysterious and grotesque creature appeared in Lin Yuan's mind. It was difficult to describe its true form; only blurry, fragmented images were visible.
A long, slippery body like intestines, bloody and writhing, with countless grotesque faces.
It giggled and babbled in an incomprehensible language, encroaching on Lin Yuan from all directions.
It was invading.
Invading Lin Yuan’s mindscape.
Lin Yuan continued forward, towards the bottom of the cavern, step by step, walking on wires, cliffs, and spikes.
A pain like acid corrosion surged through her mind. A powerful mental force, like countless cold fingers, reached in, prying at her mental barriers.
The cold consciousness invaded Lin Yuan’s mental world, bringing pain and chaos. But at the same time, Lin Yuan also captured fragmented memories belonging to the intruder.
These fragmented memories flickered in the vast mental world, accompanied by wisps of red thread, dancing past and appearing in Lin Yuan's mind.
Lin Yuan saw a luxurious cruise ship sailing on the azure sea.
It was likely the beautiful and peaceful era of the past. The sky was blue, dotted with white clouds.
The high-tech ship was marked "Maria". The crew was showing the captain something brought back by the deep-sea submarine.
“A great discovery,” the captain said happily. “A completely new, unknown organism, containing astonishing bio-energy. Perhaps it will greatly advance human technology.”
The man in the captain's hat carefully placed the unknown organism, retrieved from the deep sea, into an aquarium.
It looked like an egg, a living jade stone. It wriggled slightly in the transparent aquarium, emitting a soft glow, as if just awakening from a millennia-long slumber.
Chaotic memory fragments flowed past Lin Yuan’s eyes. These memories belonged to the crimson monster before her, and also to the collective memory of its entire race.
White waves lapped against the golden sand.
Under the moonlight, laughter and singing drifted from a beautiful town. In the center of the town stood a beautiful, ancient-style palace. Its white walls and glazed tiles bathed in the tranquil moonlight, servants bustled within, preparing a joyous feast for the entire town.
No one knew that on the deserted beach, several strange figures were slowly emerging from the depths of the sea.
These “people”, wearing the clothes of the Maria's crew, wriggled their wet bodies, emerging from the seabed, crawling across the golden sand, step by step towards the brightly lit human town.
The monsters in sailor suits were expressionless, their bodies distorted and deformed, fused with the characteristics of various marine creatures, no longer human. They slowly wriggled towards the brightly lit human town.
The next scene Lin Yuan captured was in this filthy Rose Camp.
The Rose Camp of four hundred years ago was almost identical to what she had seen moments before.
On the wooden corridor, the door of the room was open, Windsor’s blood staining the floor.
“Hey, let us into your body, you will be relieved, no longer in such pain.” A small egg had appeared there at some point. Thin, tiny red blood vessels emerged from the bloodstained floor, hooking onto Xun Hua’s body.
“We will unlock the collar and chains that control you, and help you take revenge, how about that? Don't you want to avenge this girl?”
Xun Hua’s painful wails echoed through the night sky.
Xun Hua, as bright as the moon, had completely fallen into a Deviant. Tragically, he did not receive the release he desired.
His body, ravaged by human cruelty, was invaded by the monster. He was forever trapped in this Contaminated Zone. The Guide’s mental world became the pillar of the Contaminated Zone. His parasite-ridden, immortal body became an incubator for the monster.
…
Countless images swam past, too many and too fast to discern clearly.
But amidst the tentacles' eager grasp, Lin Yuan felt she had glimpsed something of the world’s origin.
“Eh?” The invader’s surprised voice sounded in Lin Yuan’s mind. “Your world… is a starry sky?”
The bloody monster finally broke through Lin Yuan's barrier and invaded her mindscape. It found itself in a vast expanse of stars, an infinite void.
A giant silver moon hung in the sky, silently watching it.
It thought it had grown very large, but under this moonlight, it realized it was still an unhatched infant.
Before it was the human girl.
Behind the girl, in the void, countless writhing tentacles faintly emerged.
Clearly a human, yet why did it feel a bit like its own kind?
She was a Guide, albeit a powerful one, an opponent not to be underestimated. But compared to its own hundreds of years of life, this human was ridiculously young, very small, and physically fragile.
It didn’t understand why such a human Guide would dare to venture so deep, appearing before it.
But a strong desire surged within it, a desire to possess this new Guide.
A powerful Guide could bring it more power, more nutrients, allowing it to be born sooner, to truly descend into this world.
It had been waiting for hundreds of years, eager to hatch.
It anticipated its birth form; it would certainly be beautiful. Then, it would become the true god of this Contaminated Zone.
“Go, kill her physical body,” the crimson egg commanded the golden tree.
It was a tool it had controlled and manipulated for four hundred years. Every action was under its control.
The golden branches condensed into golden spears, shooting towards Lin Yuan’s body from afar.
Lin Yuan rolled down the slope, dodging the sharp golden spears.
The golden spears plunged deep into the soil, their shafts vibrating in the air. If she had been directly hit, even once, it would have been enough to pin her to the ground.
The golden branches condensed again, sharp spears raining down on Lin Yuan.
Lin Yuan confronted the strange crimson egg in her mindscape, while in reality, she had to dodge, weave, and roll across the ground, avoiding the spears falling from the sky.
She was in a sorry state, in constant danger, her arms and body receiving several cuts from the golden spear tips in just a moment.
The golden branches suddenly drew near, Xun Hua's face, wearing the golden mask, appeared before her eyes.
“Why didn’t you leave? Why come here?” The cold voice rang out.
Lin Yuan rolled her body. A golden spear tip grazed her cheek and embedded itself in the ground, severing a few strands of her hair.
“I don't like this place. I want to destroy it,” Lin Yuan looked up, staring at the close-up Xun Hua.
Since entering this place, all she had seen was the tortured Guide, the girl dying repeatedly, the Sentinels imprisoned like livestock in the farm, humans devoured by pigs, the boy killed by a knife…
It was utterly filthy, evil to the core.
“This place shouldn’t exist, I’m going to destroy it.” Lin Yuan stared intently at the Guide, of whom only half a face remained human.
One tentacle separated, stealthily infiltrating the tree’s world.
“You overestimate yourself,” the cold golden mask looked down at her.
“I’m not only going to destroy this place, I’m going to take you with me,” Lin Yuan said slowly, word by word. She pulled out the stone necklace from her collar, pressing it to her chest.
“I promised Windsor.”
The spear tips condensing on the branches paused. Beneath the golden mask, the skin of his jaw was pale, his cold lips parted slightly, softly whispering the name, “Windsor.”
The golden spear tips on the tree crown slowly disappeared, the golden leaves gently colliding, making a crisp sound.
Lin Yuan knew she had succeeded. One against two, she had no chance of winning. But as long as she brought back Xun Hua, awakened this former kindred spirit, she still had a chance.
But at the next moment, filthy blood poured down from the tree’s branches and leaves, flowing over the golden mask, covering the small part of Xun Hua’s face that was still human.
The crimson blood stained the golden branches and leaves, flowing down the golden trunk. The bloodstained golden tree froze, no longer making any sound, no longer exuding any human emotion.
Golden spear tips reappeared densely on the branches, gleaming coldly, pointing menacingly at Lin Yuan on the ground.
The killing intent was palpable, merciless. If Lin Yuan made the slightest move, the sky would rain down a dense hail of spears, killing her on the spot.
“I have been eroding him for hundreds of years. Do you think he is still your kind?” The red egg in Lin Yuan's mindscape let out a grotesque laugh. “You want to persuade him to help you? Adorable human.”
“He completely belongs to me, and you soon will too. Surrender obediently; I don't want to shatter your body too much.”
【Despicable】
【Shameless】
【There are two of you】
【Who wants to belong to you, so disgusting】
The tentacles were indignant, angrily rebuking the enemy in the mindscape.
One of them popped up and said, 【You'll hatch into something ugly.】
The crimson egg nestled among the stars was instantly enraged, its crisscrossing blood vessels throbbing. Lin Yuan could almost hear it screaming, “Shoot her, now! Pin her to the ground!”
【Hmph, it’s not just you who has two, we do too.】
【That’s right!】
【That’s right!】
【He's coming, he's coming!】
An urgent whale cry came from the air, the soft sound now more pleasing to Lin Yuan's ears than ever before.
The giant orca appeared first, the black and white whale crashing in, pushing aside the bloodstained golden tree. It carried Lin Yuan onto its back, turned, and swam away.
The black-clad Sentinel, holding a red blade, appeared next, leaping down from the sky, instantly assessing the battlefield.
He plunged the long red blade deep into the ground, the sharp blade and fierce man, with the momentum of his descent, stabbing into the writhing blood vessels on the ground, piercing the body of the crimson egg.
A pained scream echoed through the dark lair.
In the mindscape, the invading crimson monster retreated, dragging its long blood vessels.
Lin Yuan, sitting on the orca’s back, looked down from above.
The murderous Sentinel, gripping his red blade, also looked up at her.
